Hello my father diagnosed as being diabetic a few days back. But according to doctor his blood pressure is normal and he should have not been diabetic and hence doctor is doubting of any kind of side effects from any medicine or may be cause of wrong food habit. Therefore I wanted to know is it possible that diabetes can be caused due to any kind of side effects from medicine? Can regular intake of "Ensure" be a reason behind it?

Madam if understand correctly according to what you have stated" your father should not have developed diabetes as his BP is normal" I have heard this reasoning for the first time. Diabetes and BP can co-exist or a person may have only diabetes or only high BP. Diabetes develops because there may be less production of Insulin or some times no insulin, plus there is resistance to its action, mainly due to excess fat. Now a days T2 DM has become a very common condition, particularly in people who are overweight and inactive. Plus have a family history of the disease. Usually most medicines taken do not cause diabetes. But if a person is on steroids with a high dose and for long time, then diabetes may be caused. I do not know what is "Ensure" Please clarify. Thanks.
