Hello Doctors, I am inquiring on behalf of my grandmother who is 87 years old with high diabetes, cholesterol, and Thyroid. She is having a problem which I have never come across with anyone at this age. She always told me that she is feeling itchy all over her body and always keeps scratching her self. She uses anything any everything to scratch her self. Took her to a skin doctor, he said its due to dry skin, and apply moisturiser. Got her the rich coco butter lotion from Himalaya and we rub it in her all the time but yet sge keeps scratching. She gets so desperate to scratch her self, her neck, back, chest, tummy, hands the most, thighs, legs. Not sure whats happened to her doctor. Her skin does not show any rash, but its turning red as she scratch. We are frightened that this could lead to bed rash. Looking forward for your reply at the earliest.

Thanks for the query. Since she has diabetes (uncontrolled), high cholesterol and hypothyroidism, it is necessary to know the fasting, PP blood glucose levels, HbA1c%, TSH level and lipid profile. Most importantly her TSH level because uncontrolled hypothyroidism causes considerably dry skin. TSH should be around 4 to 5 mU/L for her age. So please check that and comeback. Thanks.
