lybrate-user, thanks for the query. It is very nice to see you are concerned about your grandpa's health. A patient of diabetes first and foremost needs a strict blood glucose control, that is following blood glucose should be maintained: Fasting < 100 mg, PP 160 to 180 mg & HbA1c%<7. If this achieved, then good balanced diet will help in maintaining normal health. Some times there may be a need for certain vitamins and/or iron supplements if those are deficient. It is also necessary to check his kidney function test, particularly creatinine and urea, because diabetes dose affect kidney function. If you have any other doubts please come back. But please ensure that his blood glucose levels are well controlled. Thanks.
