Usually this type of problemof pain around the ear and no dental problem would be due to the problem in the joint of the lower jaw which is present just in front of the ear. You casn keep you index finger in front of the ear and open and close the mouth, you can feel the movement of the joint. Now apply a slight pressurethrought the index finger and try opening the mouth. If you feel pain then it is the jaw joint problem. Try to restrict to soft diet, avoid biting big objects, even fruits lie apple should be sliced and taken, try to eat with spoon and try not to open your mouth wide on yawning. Just follow these simple steps you may feel better, if not consult an orthodontist or maxillofacial surgeom.
