Irregular periods Advice Dear Lybrate User, Irregular periods can be caused due to different reasons like stress, poor nutrition, sudden weight loss, excessive exercise, anorexia nervosa and the most common hormonal disturbances in women. If you have already been told that irregularity in your periods is due to certain hormonal imbalances then to correct them is important. For example a thyroid hormone imbalance can cause menstrual irregularities when the amount of thyroid hormone is the blood is too low or high. Try the following simple tips to regularize your menstrual flow - Avoid any sudden weight changes. Eating disorders like anorexia or low nutrient stores in the body can cause irregular periods. So have a well? balanced diet? with whole cereals and grains, pulses, dairy products, eggs, fish, lean meat and poultry, not to forget plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables. Avoid any kind of stress as far as possible as the main cause of irregular periods is stress (fear, depression, a family holiday, stress at work, relationship stress). Get moderate regular exercise as exercise like a light jog or meditation is a good way to burn the stress levels in the body. To regularize your periods drink a glass of fresh carrot juice daily on regular basis for 3 months. Asafetida, fenugreek seeds, sesame seeds and ginger also help to regularize the periods, liberally include them in your meals while cooking.
