Dear Lybrate user, The ache in your jaw while eating or sleeping could be due to hidden cavity (between two teeth), an erupting wisdom tooth, or gum problems. Please visit your dentist and get a thorough clinical examination done. The reason for the pain can only be determined after check up.

Dear Lybrate User, the pain in the jaw could be due to a lot of reasons including decayed teeth, gum and bone infections, muscle and joint stiffness. In your case, there might be an underlying decay that has evaded your eyes and only a dentist can visually inspect the region. Or there could be a gum infection.
