Good day! I'm a hypothyroid patient taking 75 mcg Thyronorm tablets. Would like to know if there are any known side effects of thyronorm as such - without overdosage. Does the drug by itself have any side-effects I need to be aware of? Thank you.

Mr. lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. Levothyroxine which is a synthetic form of thyroxine, the hormone produced by our thyroid gland. It is the only medicine useful to treat hypothyroidism. Therefore, by and large there are no troublesome side effects in most of the patients. But occasionally patients do get side effects like "headache, sleep problems (insomnia), nervousness, irritability, fever, hot flashes, sweating, pounding heartbeats or fluttering in your chest, changes in your menstrual periods, or appetite or weight changes. If any of these side effects occur, then dosage may have to looked at. But by and large it is very well accepted. Thanks.
