Dear Lybrate user, Thumb sucking is normal for babies upto three years of age. It should not happen after this age normally. You shouldn't wait too long to stop this habit, as your child can have permanent changes to their jaw shape, bite, and teeth. Start by talking to your child about why thumb sucking is a bad habit (ex. Germs can make you fall sick, sucking pushes teeth forward and can make you look funny) If this doesn't help, you should positively reinforce your child to break the habit like a small reward if the child doesn't suck the thumb for a whole day. Another option is to make the child wear gloves and hence try to break the habit. Please feel free to ask for further assistance.

Do not do anything. More you extract more she will put. Thumb sucking is self limiting disorder. Any coercive measure shall be counter productive. When she is elder and understands then positive reinforcement by rewarding her when not sucking shall help in behaviour modification
