Hi, I have been taking a effective TB medicine of as diagnosed by Dr. What protection should I follow not to spread bacteria to others. After how long bacterias are deactivated after TB medicine started. I have a small kids at home.

You should careful while coughing sneezing etc. As the disease spreads by droplets infection. You should cover your mouth & nose while coughing & sneezing. Also,you should be very cautious in disposal of your sputum, as it has to be disposed off properly. After sometime, as the treatment continues, the sputum becomes safe, to be diagnosed by sputum examination periodically.

Hi Lybrate user -you need to cover your mouth and nose while coughing or sneezing with tissue paper or kerchief. -the tissue and kerchief should be appropriately discarded. -avoid spitting phlegm here and there. You should spit it into sputum cups only and these cups should be disinfected. - keep windows of your room and house open so that there is good ventilation at home. #Remember TB spreads by cough droplet. It will not spread by sharing clothes or other means. #The infectivity decreases significantly in 2 to 3 weeks after TB treatment is taken.
