I have been a smoker for 40 years and now I am very serious about giving up. With such a long habit, I am unable to rid of the tobacco habit. Are there any short cuts? any substitutes like nicotine chewing gum or any other alternatives? please help me get over. Many thanks.

It is high time for you to stop it. Since it is a long standing problem you may need a direct consultation preferably with a psychologist or clinical psychologist. But before that prepare yourself. Try those methods check your motivation ti leave smoking. That is how strong is your wish to change and how effort you are willing to take. Keep a chart of situations where there is high chance for smoking and ways to avoid it include some relaxation exercise or yoga practice in your schedule.
