Dear sir, I am 62 years male and retired employee. My problem is increase in BP count. About 3 to 4 years back, I was having low BP of 110/70. Now it is 140/90. Local Doctor said that I am on the border. I do not have blood/urine sugar problem. Kindly suggest me what type of precautions I have to take and medicines tobe taken along with change in life style habits. Since I am retired, mostly I have a sedentary life style. Please guide me.

BP is problem that changes with age, the older you grow the more will be the chances of increase in BP. You should take following precautions and get a few baseline investigations done as well. 1) Get Echo, TMT, LIPID PROFILE AND RFT. 2) Begin brisk walking daily. Start gradually and increase to 40-45 mins daily. 3) Decrease take salty foods like chips, pickles, chutney, namkeen etc. Salt used in cooking food is ok. 4) Decrease caffeine content. Stop smoking if you do.

There is a slight increase in blood pressure. You don't have to take medicine. Restrict salt intake,go for regular brisk walk for 30 minutes, avoid smoking/oily/fried food. Reduce weight,if over weight,Avoid anxiety/ stress, do yoga/pranayama, have adequate sleep(7-8 hour daily).Check your BP regularly and consult doctor for further advice
