Normally Aortic valves have three cusps that regulate blood from the heart’s left ventricle to the Aorta. People affected with BAV have only two cusps instead of a normal three. An abnormal aortic valve develops during the early weeks of pregnancy, when the baby's heart develops. The cause of this problem is unclear, but it is the most common congenital heart disease.

HOW IS BICUSPID AORTIC VALVE TREATED?
There is no specific medical treatment that needs to be followed apart from a good diet and prevention of deterioration of the disease.

Most children affected with this condition have no symptoms and the problem is diagnosed only when they are adults. Many people never find out that they have this problem. There is no known way to prevent the condition.
