Diabetes is to be managed life long. Please do not worry. Accept it gracefully and make a routine habit of thinking about good health and living a healthy lifestyle. Do yoga every day and be active (you can have brisk walk for 20 mins daily) and also develop a hobby which makes you happy and relaxed. Keep checking you r sugar levels regularly (fbs/ppbs and hba1c). You r doctor will help you with the medications. On your part - be active and have a positive attitude.

Is drinking of green tea is increase the risk of cancer? Then how much cup we should drink?

Is drinking of green tea is increase the risk of cancer? Then how much cup we should drink?
No. Green tea contains substances called polyphenols, which scientists think contribute to its anti-cancer activity. Laboratory studies of one polyphenol, catechin epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG), show that it may interfere with several of the processes involved in cell replication, causing tumor cell death (apoptosis)

My age is 23 and weight 56kg. There is difficulty to gain weight. Please suggest me medicine for weight gain.

My age is 23 and weight 56kg. There is difficulty to gain weight. Please suggest me medicine for weight gain.
Hi lybrate-user to gain weight you need to combine a balanced eating pattern with regular physical activity. You should be eating at least 6 small meals a day, rather than sticking to 3 square meals. You could divide it as 3 main meals and 3 snacks. You need to be eating every 2-3 hours. Space out snacks during the day so you don't spoil your appetite. Bread, cereal, rice, whole wheat, dalia and pasta: biscuits, and corn-bread are good sources of carbohydrates. Fruits: dried fruits, fruit nectars, and large quantities of fresh fruits vegetables: include, potatoes, peas, corn in your diet. Meat, poultry, fish, dry beans, eggs, and nuts: beef, pork, lamb, poultry, salmon, omelets, nuts, peanut butter, kidney beans, chickpeas will help you gain weight. Include dairy products like milk, yogurt, and cheese: milk, fruited yogurts, hard cheeses, ice cream, puddings, custards, milkshakes. -nuts and seeds make a healthy option for snacks. -roasted channas and peanuts are good -peanut butter on the sandwiches are a great mid-meal choice. -you must know that cereals actually contain some healthy calories. Stay hydrated: drinking plenty of water and other fluids like juices, milk, soups etc, will work in your favour. Do not drink water before a meal and in between the meal as it may make you lose your appetite, thus calorie intake suffers. Sleep: at least 8 hours of sound sleep is a must. Since your body is actually building up muscles, while you rest. Weight gainers have long term side effects.

Beetroot has a high calorie so avoid it at night if you are on weight loss. Avoid cabbage and radish at night as it causes gas formation. You can take tomatoes and cucumber as it has good amount of fiber and water which helps in weight loss.

General Wellness - It Is Time You Pay Attention!

MBBS
General Physician, Delhi
General Wellness - It Is Time You Pay Attention!

The term wellness is much more than just physical health, exercise or nutrition though has been applied in many different ways. Wellness is a developed process of achieving one’s full health and well-being potential.
There are several models of wellness. A few known and accepted ones postulate six or seven aspects:

  1. Social
  2. Emotional
  3. Spiritual
  4. Environmental
  5. Occupational
  6. Intellectual
  7. Physical wellness

Wellness actually involves a personal perception of general wellness by the self. We score our wellness from 1-10, with 1 being worst ever and 10 being best ever score. We may all have different answers when our doctor asks us. How are you feeling today on a scale of 1-10?

So what can we do to enhance our general wellness? This is where a health or wellness coach comes in. Think of wellness coaching like this, many of us have health goals that we would like to achieve or a disease that we want to overcome, but a lot of times do not know where to begin making changes to reach those goals. Hence we need handholding to reach our wellness, health and weight loss goals- all of which the coach does for us. A wellness coach helps by challenging patients to develop their inner wisdom, identify their values, and transform their goals into action.

General wellness coaching in hospitals - What to expect?
A health and wellness coach is available in most hospitals today. An initial visit with the coach will help you set realistic goals especially if you are grappling with a health issue like diabetes, hypertension, heart problem or stress. The coach will also do an analysis of your current routines and habits, followed by recommendations for healthy changes designed around your particular lifestyle. Follow-up appointments will be conducted to monitor your progress and ensure that you stay on track. The health coach will help you to continue with slowly implementing healthy changes into your daily routine.

Wellness coaching uses principles from positive psychology and the practices of motivational interviews and goal setting.
A wellness coach can help you with

  1. Weight loss and weight management is as we know is very helpful for people with diabetes, osteoporosis and heart disease.
  2. Eating right can help manage various disorders. This will include tips to cut down on bad cholesterol generating foods and low-fat foods for heart patients and low calories and low sugar foods for diabetics.
  3. Improving physical activity helps in managing diabetes, heart disease and improves joint pains. The coach will guide you towards the programme that will help you manage your health condition in the best possible manner.
  4. Strength training helps people with poor muscle tone to develop a better frame. It is highly recommended for older people.
  5. Coach will tell you what to eat and how much to eat for lowering blood pressure.
  6. Wellness coaching is an important link between you and your doctor so go ahead make an appointment with one right away to optimise your wellness. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a general physician.

Hye, Thanks for the query. Firstly understand that weight gain is very dependent on genetics and metabolism. It's possible you are not eating the right foods at the right time. It is important to know that just eating just two heavy meals a day will not help. Eating the right foods at the right time is very important. Eat meals at frequent intervals. 6 meals a day is important. Eat a mid meal between each main meal. Avoid junk foods. Include dairy, eggs, nuts, fruits, rice ,bread, smoothies, dryfruits in your meals. Avoid alcohol and smoking. Exercise at least thrice a week. Even if you were to take medicines or supplements they will not work in isolation You need to have a calorie and nutrient dense meal.
