I am having a bad smell problem and at the same time blood comes out of my teeth whenever I have food. Its been 3 months I am using glister toothpaste but as such no improvement. please advice me what should I do even when I wake up early morning a continuous bad smell comes out from my mouth. Help me out as soon as possible.

MDS - Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery
Dentist, Chennai
Astritis, lung & sinus infection may also be the cause of bad smell in the mouth. 90% of bad breath is due to a dirty tongue. Kindly consult a dentist in person for further suggestion. We need more investigations to decide upon treatment. You may need deep cleaning along with surgical, gum strengthening procedure. Rinse your mouth thoroughly with a mouth wash after every meals. Use pepsodent tooth paste & gum paint for 2 to 3 weeks. Advance procedures can be done with laser. You may consult me in person. Dental tips: - visit a dentist every six months for cleaning and a thorough dental check-up. Limit sugary food to avoid tooth decay.Scrub gently to clean your tongue with a tongue cleaner. Floss all your teeth inter dentally & brush twice daily, morning & night, up & down short vertical strokes, with ultra-soft bristles, indicator brush.

Small swelling in the right underside of the jaw. Happened after vigorously brushing the teeth. At present no pain, but swelling persists. How to get rid of the swelling?

MDS - Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery
Dentist, Chennai
Vigorous brushing first of all causes many problems like attrition, and is injurious to the gums as well. So please use a soft or medium tooth brush (as per dentists advice) without using much force, brush in vertical and horizontal directions. And all surfaces of the teeth should be brushed. If you use more force it does not mean your teeth will get cleaner. About the swelling, it must be seen by a dentist so that he can detect the exact cause.

Is there any side effect while using the same toothpaste for years? Please tell me.

BDS
Dentist, Hyderabad
No as such side effect exists but the contents of the tooth paste should not be chemical based, few tooth pastes have high chemical composition so once visit your near by dentist to know more about this.

Why Dental Implants Are Better Than Dentures

BDS, Diploma in Hospital Administration, Diploma in Pharmacy
Dentist, Delhi
Why Dental Implants Are Better Than Dentures
For centuries, the best option for those who had lost teeth was to have dentures fitted. However, thanks to advances in dentistry, more and more people are now choosing to have dental implants fitted instead. Fixed implants sit in position in your jaw and cannot normally be removed and reinserted in the same way dentures can. There are a number of reasons why implants beat dentures for those who need help with tooth loss.

Long lasting

Implants can last up to 20 years if high quality solutions are purchased. This is much longer than standard dentures are able to last for. If you choose dentures, you may be forced to visit the dentist again and again to have your dentures renewed. If you do not look after your dentures properly, they can degrade quickly and become unusable.

Stability

Unlike dentures, dental implants sit in a fixed position in your mouth. Because they are often not permanent, dentures can rock or shift in position. This can make eating less comfortable, especially if you want to eat something which is crunchy or harder. Because they may be unstable, it can put unnatural and uneven pressures on some areas of your mouth. However, this is much less of a problem with dental implants, as they are fixed in position. Because they are fixed, you also don't have to worry about them falling out when talking or eating, which means that you can avoid some embarrassing situations.

Comfort

Dental implants are often fitted with comfort in mind. Rather than transferring the force of chewing to your gums, as some dentures can do, implants transfer the force of chewing to your jaw bone. Natural teeth transfer the force to your jaw as well, so this is the most comfortable solution. Food is also much less likely to get trapped under these implants, due to the way that they are fitted into your jaw. This contrasts with removable dentures, which food often gets stuck underneath.

Oral health

Wearing dentures can worsen receding gums and speed up the degradation of your jaw bone. Both of these things can lead to more serious health issues. On the other hand, dental implants reduce stress on your gums, so long as you maintain an appropriate oral healthcare routine. Scientists all believe that implants encourage bone stimulation and reduce bone decay in your jaw.

Increased confidence

Many people who wear cheap dentures feel unconfident, especially talking or eating. This means that they often have a reduced quality of life, because they do not socialise as much as they would like to, or they do not visit the restaurants that they would like to visit. Good quality implants can give people the confidence to continue to live in the way that they want to live. By choosing implants rather than dentures, you are opening yourself up to a range of different possibilities.

Mouth is not opening due to chewing of tobacco I left it from one month but its not coming to original stage hardly two fingers r going in please suggest any medicine so that it can come to original stage please doctors help me please.

BDS
Dentist, Mumbai
Lybrate-user it is so nice that you have discontinued the habit of chewing tobacco. Do not pick up any other habit as a substitute as you would be harming yourself. Reduced mouth opening can be due to thickening of the skin inside the mouth due to continuous irritation from tobacco and beetle nut. You need to get a thorough examination done by your dentist at the earliest. In most cases, with the discontinuation of habit, you can see a positive change in mouth opening in about 6 months time. Your dentist may prescribe you multivitamin / antioxidant medicines which you need to consume for your body to reverse the damage. Also, maintain a healthy & balanced diet. ]

BDS
Dentist, Hyderabad
If the pain in your chest, shoulder or jaw is brought on by activity, such as walking, and then goes away with rest, it is important to report this to your doctor. Any pain that is brought on by activity and goes away with rest should be investigated as possible cardiac symptoms.

To freshen your breath, chew a sugarless gum for around 20 minutes after meals. It will make the leftover food particles cling to it.

My tooth got brittle and came in pieces to my hand and one more tooth the outer surface got eroded and i can feel through my tongue what is reason and which treatment i have to undergo to correct this ?

If small piece only broken it can be managed by tooth coloured fillings (composite)and it is large involving pulp then needed for root canal treatment followed by tooth coloured ceramic crowns

I am 32 years old and from past 6 months I am noticing a cyst on my tongue. Is it any case of panic. This is harmless, not increasing, not paining. Do I need to remove it surgically or just can ignore it. I am non alcoholic, and don't consume tobacco products.

MDS - Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery

Mr. Lybrate-user you require to undergo biopsy for the pathology and actual diagnosis for the cystic lesion on the togue then can be decided for surgical excision.

In october 2014 i was having pain in tooth and went to a government doctor he has advised to put cement on the teeth and no need to do route canel. But the cement was gone within a week and went to another doctor he told that you have to do route canal and a cap has to place on the teeth, i did the same in the month of january 2015, within a month the same got disconnected from the teeth and in february again that was fixed with new route canel, again today the cap has come out, now what to do? please advise me.

MFDS RCPS (Glasgow), MDS - Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, BDS
Dentist, Delhi
A crown (cap) getting loose is usually not a major issue, as it can be readily recemented. However, if it keeps getting loose repeatedly, there might be something wrong with the tooth preparation or the crown design, or both. You do not need a repeat RCT for a loosened cap, unless the tooth is otherwise symptomatic. Please visit your dentist so the situation maybe remedied. Often, all you might need is a simple recementation of the cap, which is a simple enough thing to do. Do carry your cap with you for your dental appointment.
