Hello doctor, I had delivered a baby 7 months ago. For the past 2 weeks, i'm having pain near the tailbone. Whenever I sit and I had to change the position, its heavy and painful. Can you tell me what to do? Is there any exercises I could do?

Tailbone pain, also called coccydynia or coccygodynia, usually goes away on its own within a few weeks or months. To lessen tailbone pain in the meantime, it might help to: lean forward while sitting down sit on a doughnut-shaped pillow or wedge (v-shaped) cushion apply heat or ice to the affected area take over-the-counter pain relievers if your tailbone pain doesn't improve (chronic coccydynia), consult your doctor. Your doctor might recommend using magnetic resonance imaging (mri) to find out if you have a fracture, degenerative changes. Consult a physiotherapist, who might show you how to do pelvic floor relaxation techniques, such as breathing deeply and completely relaxing your pelvic floor.

Constant pain just under and between the neck and the shoulder. Keeps coming back and forth.

Physiotherapist,
Its trapezitis. Apply ice pack. Go to your nearest physiotherapist. Take ultrasound/ift/laser/ met/mfr/trigger point release/dry needling/kinesiology taping/theracise & you shall be fine in 1 day. Keep going and coming is because of your ill habits. You do not address weak muscles and neither you correct your neck posture. Address the concern comprehensively. Also assess your pillow for sleep, must have a pillow, width of your shoulder to neck.

Chronic Back Pain - How Radiology Can Help With It?

DNB (Radio Diagnosis), MBBS
Radiologist, Hyderabad
Chronic Back Pain - How Radiology Can Help With It?

Many people all over the world often suffer from chronic back pain due to various reasons. Persisting for weeks together, this type of acute pain in the back can even cause severe damage to one's daily work schedule. It is often the neck or the lower back or upper or middle back that cause such pain and forces one to look for medical assistance. And it is this necessity for obtaining a cure or treatment solution that radiology becomes extremely helpful in dealing with chronic back pain. Read further to have a better idea of how radiology can be of great help in getting relief from the annoying and distressing chronic back pain.

What is radiology?
Radiology refers to a branch of medicines which dealing with radiant energy, helps in the proper diagnosis as well as treatment of a disease. This specialty specifically uses medical imaging for diagnosing a disease or the root of illness and treating it. This field is divided into two major areas, one is interventional radiology, and the other is diagnostic radiology.

Radiology and chronic back pain
Radiology is known to be an ideal solution for getting relief from the constant suffering of chronic back pain. Whether it's a pain in the spine or the hip, radiology helps in ensuring accurate treatment while reducing the chances of inappropriate treatments which often is performed due to the lack of knowledge about the root problem. With the image-guided injections and the accurate diagnosis, radiology reaches to the root of the back pain and helps the medical professionals have a better understanding about what's ailing the patient.

How is radiology effective in treating back pain?
While the majority of the back pain can be dealt with proper rest, anti-inflammatory medications and physiotherapy sessions, when it turns out to be a chronic pain, proper diagnosis is the best option for dealing with the pain. Using different radiological imaging services such as CT or computerized tomography, MRI or magnetic resonance imaging and X-ray, the location of the pain can be easily identified and then is treated properly. And treating the back area with different therapeutic injections becomes necessary, such as nerve root injections or facet joints injections or epidural injections, for dealing with the chronic back pain, again it’s radiology that turns out to be an irreplaceable part of successful treatment.

Chronic back pain being one of the most common reasons for visiting a doctor, opting for the right diagnosis procedure becomes crucial for identifying the main underlying reason which is causing the pain. And there's no doubt that it is with the help of the latest imaging facilities of radiology that accurate diagnosis as well as managing the pain can be possible. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a Radiologist.

Physiotherapist, Ludhiana
Displaced coccyx takes abit longer time to get to normal. You need to care a lot in day to day life along with other treatments. Avoid taking too much of painkillers. Instead you can have a transdermal patch on the skin which has minimum side effects on you.

Hi I am 23 years old female from last 1 year I have lower back pain please suggest me what to do?
you are young girl, might be college going. Are you moderately built or thin built? Your BMI is alright. Main cause of back pain in your age group is muscle weakness, calcium and vitamin D deficiency or inappropriate posture. Detailed history will give proper diagnosis and treatment accordingly can be advised. You will do fine with some medicines and exercises.

You need a mri cervical spine and lumbar spine. Maintain proper posture. Do not lift heavy objects. Change your profession if it gives stress to your back. Avoid riding bike for long. Avoid bending. I am a 31.5 years old man who has been working in a Corporate environment for more than 11 years now. For the last 11+ years, I have been doing evening / night shifts. Recently, I have moved on a Project for 2 weeks where I have to do morning shift. From past 2 days, I have been waking up at 8 AM and go to bed by 12 / 1 AM. The issue is that I have started getting pain in my upper back (Parallel to Ribs). This pain starts around 10 at night and there is also a minor pain in my throat (Sore throat). When I wake up at 8 in the morning, the pain is there. However as I take a shower and get ready for work, the pain almost goes away and then starts again at 10 PM. I have never had this type of pain (In upper back) in my life. Infact, I really never had any body ache besides some minor back pain in back due to stress and that went away years ago. I am really confused whether it's due to change in lifestyle or is it something serious. I agree that my lifestyle is very unhealthy. I am a smoker who smokes 8 - 9 cigarettes a day and have been smoking from past 16 years.

Hello Mr. lybrate-user, Upper back and throat pain is due to prolong sitting and environment of your work profile that you are doing right now. And you mentioned that you smoke from last 16 years right, so prolong smoker have many death full diseases n even death due to collapse of lung and smoke also dysfunctional of oesophageal track. So, in my opinion, my suggestion for upper back pain is a big deal, if you stopped smoking you save 3 thing first, your life from death full disease: you save the environment n you also save the world. About your pain, cercumductio n rotator motion of 3/4 times daily basis before you start your work.
