My wife is 28 years old she is suffering from hypothyroidism and we are expecting a baby but not happening also we need ayurvedic remedies for her.

According to my opinion you should not rely on remedies for hypothyroidism in case when you want to have a baby. And there are no such home remedies as such for this condition. You should take proper treatment for hypothyroidism.

Hello, you should try for atleast 1 year to conceive. If you are anxious to achieve pregnancy, get a follicular monitoring test done and do timed intercourse.

Hi, I took blood test due to pcod, in my result LH- luteinizing hormone is 9.99. Doctor said that this lh level is very high. But it is curable only. She given pills for that. My doubt is when it will cure or want to do any surgery for this. If lh is high means what will happen. I am expecting my pregnancy. Can you please tell normal level in lh. My lh level is 9.99.

DGO, MD, MRCOG, CCST, Accredation in Colposcopy
Gynaecologist, Kolkata
It depends on the timing in the cycle when you had it done. Also the fsh to lh ratio is important as a value greater than 3 is suggestive of pco. A value of 9.9 is high though. I would advise you to take the medicines your doctor advised and discuss pregnancy with him so that a few ofthe medicines can be changed.

I am suffering with bilateral tubal blockage (corneal blockage) recently. I had conceived but it turn into miscarriage in march 2015 and I had D&C and it was my first pregnancy. Now I want to conceive so please tell me some effective treatment and also the cost.

MBBS, MD - Obstetrtics & Gynaecology, FMAS, DMAS

In case of bilateral tubal blockage, ivf is the next option. You may opt for a laparoscopic and hysteroscopic recanalisation after ruling out tb and endometriosis and pid.

Hi. Am 25 year old married woman. I have been taking femilon from the time I got married to avoid pregnancy. I stopped taking it in the month of October as Im not sexually active .I was supposed to get my periods on Nov 2nd. Since the delay. I got a pelvic scanning done and realised I have a cyst in my right ovaries. And I was advised to take susten 200 mg to get my periods. But I read on the internet it's taken to delay the periods. I'm extremely worried about what to do? Do I need to discontinue the tablet? Would having a cyst cause infertility in future? Please help. Thanks and regards.

MD, MBBS
Gynaecologist, Vadodara
Dear lybrate-user, thanks for asking. Delay in period can be due to ovulatory problem which sometimes leads to persistant cyst in one of the ovaries. In your case susten is given to give progesterone support which is missing in anovulatory cycle. So take it and after stopping it you will get periods within a week. Cyst does not lead to infertility and generally it vanishes after periods. Get yourself checked after your periods.

It's been 8 years for my Marriage. Till now I have not conceived. My periods are regular there is no problem. Many times for this reason I have gone to depression. 3 years back I was going for checkup for 2 months. Doctor said that eggs was not growing and gave some tablets after that it got improved. And for my husband they said counting are less. So they need to increase. And it was too costly for me to afford every week or twice a week. So I discontinued going for a checkup. Please suggest me any good and affordable hospital so that I can restart treatment.

MD- Ayurveda
Ayurveda, Ujjain
Dear lybrate-user ji, In Ayurveda some medicines are there with the help of which the eggs started to grow, Use it - NAST PUSPANTAK RAS 1-1-1 + Tab M2 Tone 2-2-2 ,three times a day, SHIV LINGI powder 2gms + PUTRANJEEVI powder 2gms, twice a day with milk, Sy Eve-care 15-15-15 ml three times a day. For your husband give him Tab Bungshil 2-2-2 + Tab Fortage 2-2-2, three times a day, VEERYA RASAYAN 5-5 gms twice a day with milk. The above treatments are very effective and easily affordable. By these your eggs will grow and semen as well as sperm quantity and quality of your husband will improve. Use these at least for 4-5 months, positive result will come sure. If any doubt, please consult me privately.

Hello, you have not mentioned the name of the medicine and also not mentioned if your menses have been regular or irregular. Also mention if any hormonal profile has been done for you. Before any investigation for wife a semen analysis of the husband should be done.

If you and your partner are planning to conceive, you should start taking folic acid before you get pregnant. Folic acid helps to provide the best health outcomes for your baby when it is growing. Taking folic acid daily before and during pregnancy also prevents the occurrence of neural tube defects, such as spina bifida, in your baby. You?re most likely to get pregnant if you have sex within a day or so of ovulation (releasing an egg from the ovary). This is usually about 14 days after the first day of your last period. An egg lives for about 12-24 hours after it?s released. For pregnancy to happen, the egg must be fertilised by a sperm within this time. If you want to get pregnant, having sex every couple of days will mean there?s always sperm waiting in the fallopian tubes to meet the egg when it?s released. any queries consult privately

Hi I'm chandra, I'm 31 years old. I tried to conceive on my fertile days (12th to 16th day ), I was getting white discharge from day 11th to day 19th. Periods comes in 30 days. Today is 23rd day but I'm not getting any symptoms of pregnancy. Is this white discharge common? Kindly guide me, if this white discharge will affect our pregnancy planning?

MD - Obstetrtics & Gynaecology, FCPS, DGO, Diploma of the Faculty of Family Planning (DFFP)
Gynaecologist, Mumbai
If no associated complaints white discharge is normal. Pregnancy possible only on one day of cycle-day of ovulation so you must give nature 12-24 months for same.

Hello- Since you perform sex after a large gap, it is causing problems in your pregnancy. Prolonged gap of sex in men makes his sperms immotile. It does not have big effect on female health but yes white discharge is going to minimize your chances of pregnancy. I recommend you both to start of medications and you can fulfill your dreams of a baby.

Complete Infertility Investigation - Why is It Important?

MBBS, DNB - Obstetrics and Gynecology, DGO

Complete Infertility Investigation - Why is It Important?

While some couples conceive with ease, conceiving a child can be extremely difficult for others. In cases where a woman is not able to get pregnant despite having regular intercourse in tune with her biological cycle, infertility tests may be suggested to investigate the reason behind this. In most cases, these tests are suggested if a year has gone by without intercourse resulting in a pregnancy. Women may also be said to be infertile, if they cannot carry a foetus to full term.

Infertility can affect both men and women and can be triggered by a number of different reasons. In some cases, it is treatable while in others, alternative ways of having a family may need to be discussed. Hence, it is very important to understand the different types and triggers for infertility and to undergo complete infertility investigations. Some of the common types of infertility investigations are as given below.

  1. Blood tests: A blood test of both partners is used to assess the general health of the couple and to identify any health factors that may be impeding fertility.
  2. Tests for women:
    1. Hysterosalpingogram: This is an X ray that can identify if a blockage or any other issue in the fallopian tubes are the cause for infertility.
    2. Pelvic ultrasound: This is used to have a look at the anatomy of the female reproductive system and to check for fibroids.
    3. Laparoscopy / hysteroscopy: This is used to get a clearer picture of the ovaries, uterus and other parts of the reproductive system.
    4. Tracking cycle: Ovulation and the thickness of the uterus lining may also affect infertility, This can be diagnosed by tracking and assessing the menstrual cycle.
  3. Tests for men
    1. Semen analysis:This test is used to get an idea of sperm concentration, motility and the appearance of sperm in a man’s semen. In some cases, the semen may not include any sperm cells. In such cases, a follow up investigation may be required to assess if sperm cells are being created in the testicles. This is known as testicular sperm aspiration or a testicular biopsy.
    2. Sperm DNA: The DNA in sperm also plays an important role in fertility. This test is used to assess the sperm DNA integrity and to see how it may affect embryo development and chances of an on-going pregnancy.

Infertility treatment depends on the cause identified by the above tests and hence it is important for both partners to undergo complete testing. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a gynaecologist.

Hello, PCOS or pcod s a problem in which a woman's hormones are out of balance. It can cause problems with your periods and make it difficult to get pregnant. PCOS also may cause unwanted changes in the way you look. If it isn't treated, over time it can lead to serious health problems, such as diabetes and heart disease. The most common symptoms are: Acne.Weight gain and trouble losing weight.Extra hair on the face and body.Thinning hair or even hair loss on scalp.Irregular periods. Often women with PCOS have fewer than nine periods a year. Some women have no periods. Others have very heavy bleeding.Fertility problems. Many women who have PCOS have trouble getting pregnant(infertility), depression. Regular exercise, healthy foods, and weight control are the key treatments for PCOS. Treatment (hormonal) can reduce unpleasant symptoms and help prevent long-term health problems. Try to fit in moderate activity and/or vigorous activity often. Brisk Walking, jogging, dance or aerobics are great exercise that most people can do.Eat heart-healthy foods. This includes lots of vegetables, fruits, nuts, beans, and whole grains. It limits foods that are high insaturated fat, such as meats, cheeses, and fried foods. Most women who have PCOS can benefit from losing weight. Even losing 5kg may help get your hormones in balance, regulate your menstrual cycle and can make you ovulate.

Try to reduce weight first. Now all the reports of both of you are normal means there is good chance of success, if you try active treatment for fertility.
