My Mother has confirmed Lungs cancer before last two weeks. Dr. said that it is in stage 3B and now we can not cure. Her life will be of only 2-3 years even after Chemo and next treatment. Is it true ? Please advise.

DNB(Respiratory Diseases), MBBS
Pulmonologist, Jabalpur
In most of the stage 3B lung cancers they are not operable so chances of their cure are less.and further prognosis also depends the type of lung cancer it is and its molecular make up. these days targeted therapies based on the receptor studies of tumour have added some extra life to lung cancer patients over and above the conventional chemotherapy

My dad is having lungs problem his both the lungs are so week and its really hard him to breath and he can not sleep properly at night and cough so badly and some music things come from his mouth when he cough so please. Is there any home remedies to get healthy and normal life for him?

MBBS, MD - Internal Medicine
Internal Medicine Specialist, Secunderabad
lybrate-user, from your description of the seriousness of his cough, sleep disturbances and abnormal breathing sounds, your father might have crossed the stage for home remedies. He needs to be thoroughly examined for major lung diseases including chest xrays and pulmonary lung function tests. If he is a smoker, he must give it up. Morbidly obese people also have breathing disorders. I would suggest to go for a full health checkup.

In her recent X ray reports, it indicated that there is little amount of fluid accumulated in the lungs. So she's not able to breathe properly. Why does the fluid accumulates in the lungs and what is the treatment for it? Can it be just wheezing or lung cancer?

MD - Pulmonary, DTCD
Pulmonologist, Faridabad
Fluid on both sides or one side, how long and associated symtoms and any reports will decide cause and then treatment. Uni lateral effusion is mostly due to TB.

Should stop smoking. If taking alcohol, that too should be stopped. If no relief get chest xray, ultrasound abdomen and liver function test done and consult a respiratory physician.

Hello actually my brother in law is suffering from lung cancer treatment is going on in TATA Medical Center kolkata under Dr. on last visit he suggested that (brother in law) for surgery so you know what we lay man are always stay away from any surgery so that's why we want a second opinion.

MBBS
General Physician, Delhi
Lung cancer is very fast spreading cancer, if cancer is limited only to lungs ; then its better to go for surgery as once it involve other body parts it may get very lethal .it is best advisable to go for surgery, maintain a healthy protein diet.

Please do a chest x-ray. You need homeopathic medicines to eradicate your disease/sufferings. Take bryonia 30 - twice daily 4 pills for next 7 days and get back to me for further treatment.

Warm saline gargle thrice daily. Suitable antibiotic for 5-7 days. These should be sufficient to control your cough.
