My friends daughter who is19 years old and weight 55 kgs suffers very badly from pre menstrual cramps she goes short of breath and her hands &legs start getting stiff. She has to admitted to the hospital and the doctors give her nebulizer with budecort 0.5 mg and serenace injection. What could be the reason for this and what can be done to avoid this.

Hi lybrate-user Sad to hear about your daughter's condition. These medications are given for treatment of persistent bronchial asthma. Looks like her asthma symptoms get worse during PMS and periods. Asthma symptoms can start to worsen anywhere from four days before menstruation through the last day of your period. This is most common in women with severe asthma. You can treat her for asthma and meet an allergist doctor. You may follow the following: If your asthma is particularly bothersome just before or during your period, there are steps you can take to help head off an asthma attack. Write a diary. Write down details about your daughter's asthma symptoms throughout the month and compare them to the pattern during her menstrual cycle. This can help determine if there’s a relationship between your asthma and your periods. Bring the diary to appointments with your allergist. Talk to your doctor. If your asthma symptoms consistently worsen around your period, discuss possible remedies with your doctor. Your doctor may recommend increasing preventive medication during this time of the month. This will save hospitalisation every time. Consider hormone therapy. Manipulating the timing of menstruation with artificial hormones may help. Some women who have asthma attacks right before or during their period can benefit from hormone therapy. If you are pre-menopausal, this may mean taking birth control pills, wearing a patch, or getting injections. In a recent study of menstruating women 28 to 58 years old, asthma symptoms improved for the women taking oral contraceptives. Avoid triggers. Be particularly diligent about avoiding anything that could set off an asthma attack in the days before and during your period. Common asthma triggers include cold air, exercise, pollutants, dust, and smoke, including second-hand smoke from being around smokers. Taking aspirin can also trigger an asthma attack in some women. Be prepared. At the very least, be sure you have your rescue inhaler with you at all times on the days before and during your daughter's period.

I have a daughter who is 6 Year old .deLivery was through operation. Now I want. Second baby .i m trying from last one year. But the result is negative. My periods are not regular. Sometime comes 2 days late or before. please help me how I conceive.

Homeopath, Secunderabad
Have patience. Do the right things for the right things to happen. You should go to the doctor with your husband and discuss about the plan. Let the doctor examine both of you for the medical fitness and advise some tests. If there is any specific problem it can be corrected easily. Revert after the medical examination along with the reports. Its also important for both of you to become strong and healthy. So eat health and exercise everyday. Take sufficient rest and avoid negative thinking. Do something good (any hobby, or learn yoga) so that you are balanced mentally and physically. Later you can add Homeopathy for both of you as it is safe and gives gentle support for the easy conception. Contact me later for further guidance.

I am 23 years old Female. I am straight but the problem is I don't feel comfortable to allow my boyfriend to kiss. I feel uncomfortable when he touch me and also I don't ever fantasize myself doing something sexual with a boy. How should I overcome my problem that I have currently? Is it normal to have such anti-kiss or anti-touch feeling? Being a girl what should I do? I feel nasty when I think of kissing a boy? Note: I am not a lesbian. I am a straight girl.

Homeopath, Chennai
Disinterest in sexual/intimate behaviour may be complex to understand. Though it is very real a problem, caused by hormonal disturbances, I caution that it may be too hasty to term your case as hormonal imbalance. Personal stress and worries may cause you to be disinterested for a period and mostly can be self limiting. Find out what are the things running in your mind. If you are running thru a rough patch in life, you most probably will return to feeling excited after the problems resolve. Broaden your view. I'd suggest you to meet a psychology counselor if you wish.

Sexual Problems - 5 Ways You Can Effectively Treat It!

Dysfunction which hampers yours intimacy with your partner is an ailment that has affected over 30 million men in the United States. It is a condition where a man cannot achieve or maintain an erection during an intimate performance and it also leads to reduced sexual drive. It can happen to anybody at any time and fatigue, stress, performance anxiety and relationship problems also cause erectile dysfunction.

You shall have to visit an expert if you have been suffering from these ailments for over two weeks. The standard treatment include implants, surgery and vacuum pumps. But you can also try the natural options like being physically active, losing weight, curbing down alcohol consumption and smoking.

  1. Walk along: When you wish to boost your sexual performance, you will have to just walk 2 miles a day. This would definitely help those men who are obese to reduce their risk of erectile dysfunction as well as reverse it potentially. Maintaining a trimmed waistline is essential for a healthy sex life. Also, maintaining a proper weight is a great way of preventing erectile dysfunction.
  2. Involve your nether regions: Pelvic workouts, which are commonly referred to as kegel workouts are used for promoting urinary continence as well as good sexual health. They also help in strengthening the bulbocavernosus muscle that helps your body in three different ways. First of all, it helps the penis to swell with blood at the time of intercourse, pumps while you ejaculate and helps in emptying the urethra after you urinate.
  3. Take watermelon juice: A slice of chilled watermelon will not just quench your thirst, it will also help your sexual health. An amino acid called citrulline which is present in watermelon is known for improving blood flow to the penis. Plus, it is easier for the stomach to digest and can act to be your natural Viagra.
  4. Acupuncture: Acupuncture has now become a way of treating all kinds of ailments ranging from back pain to depression and erectile dysfunction seems to be no exception. Through this alternate therapy, fine needles would be placed in various regions of the body for relieving stress. This, in turn, would alleviate your erectile dysfunction as well.
  5. Take L-Arginine substitutes: L-arginine is an amino acid which is naturally present in the body and helps in making nitric oxide that supports erection. Nitric oxide also helps in relaxing of blood vessels and keeps the erection sustained.

These five natural tips would definitely help you combat sexual dysfunction. However, if you see that the problems persist over a few weeks in spite of trying these natural methods, then you shall have to consult an expert.

First of all some cetvical discharge in pregnancy is normal but not the pain so if you are not satisfied with the treatment your doctor has given you then take another opinion and second thing is you will start feeling the movements of baby after another two three weeks.

Hello Doctors, My girlfriend (24 years) is experiencing itching in left breast and a tiny lump in right breast, she is about to have her period after two days, is it due to PMS or she have to go for checkup Some times a transparent white discharge comes out from nipple after squeezing the breast Please help!

MD - General Medicine, D.M. medical oncology
Oncologist, Mumbai
Dear lybrate-user I will try to answer all your queries one by one 1. Itching in the left breast is due to some local cause which can be addressed only after detailed examination by a doctor. [ most likely a non serious condition] 2. Considering her age [ 24 years] ,the tiny lump in the breast is most likely to be a non cancerous condition. It could be fibroadenoma [ a benign tumor i.e not a cancer ] which may or may not require any further therapy depending on the size and rate of growth 3.The whitish discharge she is having could be due to a medical condition called galactorrhoea [ inappropriate secretion of milk in non lactating women] due to inappropriate secretion of prolactin hormone. This symptom requires further evaluation with measurement of serum prolactin hormone to decide about further management as this condition is often found in women of this age group. I would advice you to visit a breast surgeon for evaluation of right breast lump and left breast itching and therafer after his opinion you may require an opinion from endocrinologist for the whitish discharge. Do not worry, it may seem that I have raised suspicion for two different conditions but rest assured that both the condition if found are treatable. Hope I have answered your questions.

What reason about baby girl 2 kg weight? And after birth three day can not come feeding and my baby has expired. Why it happen? I can eat very well during pregnancy but I lost my child.

Ayurveda, Udupi
The cause for underweight baby not only depend on amount of the food consumed during pregnancy. Along with good number of medical cause it also depend on occupational-physical-mental stress during pregnancy. Environmental factors also play important role in the growth of the baby. Nothing to worry try to come out from current stress at the earliest and plan pregnancy minimum of 6month gap. Be hopeful. God bless you.

Sexual & Reproductive Health - Factors That Affect It!

Sexual & Reproductive Health - Factors That Affect It!

To be considered healthy, one must not only be physically and mentally sound, but one must also be sexually and reproductively healthy. Sexual and reproductive health includes a person’s ability to enjoy a satisfying sex life and capability of reproducing. Sexual and reproductive health is important for both men and women.

When it comes to women, sexual health problems can refer to

  • Lack of sexual desire
  • Inability to be sexually aroused
  • Inability to achieve an orgasm
  • Painful intercourse

There are many factors that could trigger these problems, such as

  • Relationship problems
  • Emotional distress
  • Gynaecological problems

Some of the common gynaecological problems that affect women’s sexual health are

  • Vaginal dryness
  • Pelvic inflammatory disease
  • Vaginismus
  • Endometriosis
  • Uterine fibroids
  • Gynaecological cancer
  • Interstitial cystitis
  • PCOS

Endometriosis and some of the above mentioned diseases can also affect a woman’s reproductive health and cause problems with pregnancy. Exposure to STDs is another major reproductive health problem. STDs such as HIV, gonorrhoea and HPV are dangerous not only for the mother, but also affect the health of the baby. Reproductive health problems or women also include unwanted pregnancies, unsafe abortions and maternal death.

Being a victim of sexual violence affects both sexual and reproductive health. Sexual violence can be defined as a non-consensual sexual activity. While anyone can experience this, women have a higher risk of facing such violence than men. Sexual violence can cause a person to fear sex itself and in some cases can interfere with their ability to reproduce.

Though men’s interest in sex is often joked about, men too can face sexual health problems. This could be triggered by a physical or psychological condition. Erectile dysfunction and ejaculation disorders such as premature ejaculation or retrograde ejaculation are the two most common sexual health problems faced by men. Anxiety and depression along with illnesses such as diabetes and high blood pressure can also cause a loss of libido and sexual disinterest.

Men can also suffer from a low sperm count and low testosterone. In many cases, this can make a man infertile. Peyronie's disease and testicular cancer are other conditions that can affect a man’s sexual and reproductive health. Like women, men also need to protect themselves against STDs to ensure they remain sexually healthy.

Thankfully, most sexual and reproductive health problems can be treated and cured with a combination of medication and psychological counselling. Hence sexual and reproductive health problems should not be considered taboo but should be addressed as soon as possible.
