Yesterday, All of sudden my right ear started paining. Took painkiller and drop then got some relief. What could be the reason. What is the best way to clean the ears?

MBBS
General Physician, Delhi
Since you have a history of allergies, it could simply be Otitis Externa/Interna (infection or Ear Clean Trauma), or Ear Wax, Sinusitis or as an association of Throat Inflammation (Pharyngitis). Avoid cleaning the ear. Improper cleaning causes more harm than not cleaning at all. Do not or minimally use Johnson & Johnson Ear Buds. I personally do not recommend any ear buds. Use ear wax dissolving drops once every 20 days to help solve your problem. Precautions- 1.No cold foods, oily and sweet things. 2. Salt water hot gargles thrice daily. 3. Steam inhalation thrice daily. 4. Valsalva (to blow against closed ear drums. Really helps. Check out on YouTube. Just like blowing a balloon. 5.For medication and treatment, consult via private appointment. Cheers!

PCOD - Causes, Symptoms and Treatment

MBBS, MS - Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Post Doctoral Fellowship in Reproductive Medicine, Fellowship in Infertility, Diploma in Assisted Reproductive Technology & Embryology
Gynaecologist, Hyderabad
PCOD - Causes, Symptoms and Treatment

Are you experiencing problems with your periods because of hormonal imbalance? This condition, known as PCOD and PCOS, or polycystic ovary syndrome, may make it difficult for you to get pregnant, and unwanted changes in your appearance are also indicated. In most cases, women with PCOD develop small cysts in their ovaries. These cysts may not be harmful or cancerous, but they cause hormone imbalance in your body.

Causes

The specific causes of PCOD are yet to be determined. In PCOS patients, the ovaries produce excess androgens or male sex hormones, which result in an imbalance in ovulation, acne breakout and development of excess body hair. Your body faces problems using insulin and develops insulin resistance. Genetics are considered to be a key factor that determines a woman’s chance of getting PCOD.

Symptoms

The symptoms of PCOD are mild in the beginning. The most common symptoms are as follows:

  1. Weight and difficulty in weight loss.

  2. Acne breakout.

  3. Development of excess hair on the face and body, which is not a feminine feature. Thicker and darker facial hair and unusually excessive hair on the belly, chest and back are also indicated in some women.

  4. Thinning of hair on the scalp.

  5. Irregularity with menstrual periods. Commonly, women with PCOD experience less than 9 periods during a year. Some women may have no periods at all, while others experience heavy, abnormal bleeding.

  6. Fertility problems are likely in women with PCOD.

  7. Depression.

Treatment

The treatment of PCOD aims at relieving the symptoms and preventing long-term health problems associated with the condition. PCOD can be treated and managed by using the following measures:

  1. You should keep fit and undertake regular exercise and work out. Walking is an ideal exercise which you can opt for.

  2. You should eat heart healthy food which includes vegetables, nuts, fruits, whole grains and beans. Avoid foods which contain saturated fats and these include fried food, meat and cheese.

  3. Losing weight is beneficial for your health if you have PCOD. Losing even a small amount of weight will help in balancing your hormones and regulating your menstrual cycle.

  4. Quit smoking as smoking increases the levels of androgen in your body.

  5. Birth control pills are also prescribed for reducing your symptoms, and fertility medicines are prescribed in case of infertility issues because of PCOD.

It is recommended for you to consult a gynaecologist on experiencing any symptom of PCOD. This will enable early diagnosis so that you can start with the treatment measures before the condition worsens.

sir i am ravi kumar, 22 years old and i have started loosing my hair...what is the solution to grow new hair...

BHMS
Homeopath, Faridabad
Hi. Let me tell you about hairfall. In layman's language, hairfall can be divided into 2 types - temporary hairfall and permanent (which is called as 'Hairloss' rather). In temporary hairfall, hair grows back again from the same hair root, but in case of permanent hairloss, may be because of formation of DHT (Di- Hydro -Testosterone) around hair root it gets choked up, subsequently affects the blood supply to the hair and thus hair root is lost forever. (There are different pattern and types of hairloss, because of different reasons like Alopecia Areata, Telogen Effluvium, Scarring Alopecia, Traction Alopecia, etc.) Causes of hairloss: Many factors are responsible formation of this DHT or male/ female pattern baldness - hereditary, post-illness/ ailment, post-delivery, post- chemotherapy, nutritional deficiencies, hormonal imbalance, insufficient sleep, sudden loss of weight, stress/ tensions/ excessive anger, use of bore water, any other underlying diseases, etc. Management: Take diet rich in protein like non-veg., eggs, pulses, legumes, sprouts, nuts (sp. walnut and almonds), iron-rich food like green vegetables, also take flaxseeds, green tea, soyabean, fruits, salads, etc. Take proper 6-9hrs of sound sleep. Give up the habit of smoking and excessive alcohol intake. Avoid junk food and any kind of beverages (tea, coffee, aerated drinks, cold drinks, etc.) Avoid canned/ tinned food or food that contains preservatives (eat fresh ones). Avoid use of harsh hair colour, hair treatment like rebonding, straightening, perming, etc. Avoid vigorous exercises or any supplements provided by the gym! Use Rose wood/ any wooden hair comb to brush your hair. Regular exercising is also one of the important point, but should be done under some good, qualified yoga teacher or instructor for proper guidance; it also releases the stress/ tension in the mind and the body and keeps you FIT and YOUNG!! Medication: Take homoeopathic Rx - Schwabe's Wiesbaden 200 & Alfalfa Tonic twice a day for 1 month and revert. Also, use Schwabe's Arnica shampoo and Hair Growth oil regularly as per the condition of your scalp (minimum 3 times a week). After shampooing, use Bakson's Arnica Hair conditioner as well after every head wash. Apart from thistake Follihair tablets (multivitamin) - 1 tab. daily once for 1 month. (N.B.: With the help of homoeopathic medicines, we can only prevent further progress of the hairloss, means it will get arrests in the present condition in case of progressive baldness. But, in case there are areas of baldness which has gone smooth and shiny, you will have to choose an option of Hair Transplant along with theses medications!).

I am 25 years old, my weight is 75 kg can you suggest which type of green tea should use. And any other suggestion.

PGDD, RD, Bachelor of Home Science
Dietitian/Nutritionist, Mumbai
Hye. Hye, Thanks for the query. Firstly it is important to understand that weight /fat loss involves sensible eating. Understand that no food will work in isolation in weight/fat loss. It's a balanced diet that is important to fat loss. Remedies like green don't help weight loss. They help flush out your system and act as a detox which definitely will help better digestion and metabolism. This will only aid a little in your efforts to lose weight. All the so called singular remedies will only give you muscle and bone loss. The fats will remain as it is. So, have your green tea but accompany it with good diet, exercise and sleep to see result. You have to eat the right foods at the right time. Eat small but frequent meals.     Reduce your main meals by small amount. Take a glass of lime water 10minutes before meals to help digestion. Avoid long gaps in between meals. Avoid junk as far as possible. Exercise at least 4 times a week. Lastly be committed.                        Remember it's a lifestyle change and not a one time thing.

Red eyes could be because of many reasons but commonly it is due to allergy or infection. You need to visit eye specialist to differentiate between the two as the treatment is different. Also get your eyes checked for any glass power.

Dentist,
Hi, First of all every person has his or her own personality. So instead of trying to be like others cherrish your own. U might never know that the others would be wanting to be like u. Now, coming to your ques about your malalligned teeth. Yes you can get the treated through an orthotreatment where your doctor would corrwct the relation between your teeth. U woul deffinately find a change within your face profice after some time bt it would take some. At last as per your "v" shape face requirement you might have to undergo orthogonathic surgery or some cosmetic surgery abt whic you can be told abt only when you visit a dwntist who woukd take various radioghraphs of your profile and then plan the treatment accordi g to your needs. My last advice to you would be jst to go for the ortho treatment and then if you r not satisffied with the results then go for your "v" shape face wish. Regards.

I am also losing my hair very quickly and I also tried most of shampoo but my hairs are still falling down. And I am very worry about that. So please sir suggest me right answer.

Vaidya Visharad
Ayurveda, Narnaul
Lubricate your hair. Using a moisturizer greatly reduces the chances of split ends and promotes hair growth by diminishing breakage. However, to avoid overtly oily hair, use only a little moisturizer or try lubricating your hair a couple of hours before hair wash. Moisturized hair will attract dust if you go out.
