I'm diabetic since 32 years and on insulin, also having blood pressure for which I take 50mg Aten. Please suggest Ayurvedic prescription ?

Aten is usually avoided in diabetes, because it masks symptoms of hypoglycaemia, unless you have ischemic heart disease. Abanna is brand from Himalaya which is used in Ayurveda.

My wife has episceleretis and the doctor has said not to use any drops or steroids and instead has given ibuprofen 400 mg 3 times a day. She had shown 3 doctors before and no respite, as the redness of eye would reoccur in 1 month, is this the right treatment what she has now, please guide.

Episcleritis is a recurrent disease. It's an inflammatory condition. You should use a mild steroid drop in tapering dose ( ex- Tobastar F eye drop 6 times x 4days 5times. X 4days ..... till once x 4days ) By this time redness of d eyes will go away, then start Flur eye drop 3 times for 3 months The recurrence rate will go down to a large extent with this treatment.

Teenagers do have this problem so there is nothing you should be ashamed of discussing with your pediatric nephrologist. He needs to be evaluated for bowel and bladder dysfunction and treated accordingly. And believe me it can be cured

Danger Called Refined Carbs - 4 Reasons It's Slowing You Down

B.Sc. - Dietitics / Nutrition
Dietitian/Nutritionist, Mumbai
Danger Called Refined Carbs - 4 Reasons It's Slowing You Down
Carbs or carbohydrates are present in most foods. They provide energy and ensure that the body functions normally. But refined carbs or the ones that have been processed are very harmful. Apart from adding too many calories, they also increase the risk of developing diabetes and other medical conditions. You find refined carbs in most of the packaged foods - from jellies to pastries, white table sugar to soda pop, cereals to desserts and processed syrups.

Listed below are 4 dangers why we must think before we eat.

1) Carry Minimal Nutritional Value - What distinguishes refined carbs from unrefined carbs is that they don't have the outer bran layer, which is a germ that has several minerals, lots of fibres and essential fatty acids. This bran layer is stripped away to increase the shelf life which gives you refined carbs that have zero to minimal level of nutritional value.

2) Are Addictive - If you are too fond of having pizzas, pastas, burgers etc. Then you may be addicted to eating refined carbs. This happens because of high glycaemic index meal, which increases hunger, stimulates brain regions to associate reward with more food and happiness and decreases blood plasma glucose.

3) Cause of Lifestyle Diseases - They also decrease and affect the metabolism, which in turn can lead to weight gain, obesity and diabetes-2 among other problems.

4) Cause of Behavioural Problems - They may cause blood sugar spikes, inflammation in the body, acne and eczema, behaviour issues, emotional problems, hyperactivity, bloating, yeast infections, premature ageing, allergies among other problems.

To adopt a healthy lifestyle, you must avoid these refined carbs are much as possible and stick to complex carbs in whole grains and vegetables.

Hello. It can be a problem of IBS or inflammatory bowel disease. Bleeding is not a good sign. You need a examination and proctoscopy by a surgeon and may require a colonoscopy also. First of all get a stool examination to rule presence of blood. An ultrasound abdomen to rule any other lesion. Avoid spicy oily and outside food. Avoid milk. But should take milk products like curd paneer etc. For medications you can consult online or take appointment as I do not prescribe medications on open forum. Thanks.

Yes you can take snack or a mild meal before bathing. If you are going to bath without eating then you might become more tired. You can take bath preferably after 30-40 minutes after the work out.

CONSTIPATION:is due to an incorrect lifestyle and irregular eating patterns, not taking enough fluids, sedentarylifestyle.Foods that are heavy and difficult to digest, as well as oily, spicy, fried, and junk foods are the culprits. Eating food in a disturbed atmosphere or in front of the television and being awake late at night all lead to bowel disturbance. Psychological factors like stress, anxiety, fear, jealousy, and sorrow also play an important role. DIET & LIFESTYLE ADVICE: Increase intake of fiber, especially fruits and cooked vegetables. An Apple or Pineapple/Pomegranate each day is helpful.  Drink 7-8 glasses of lukewarm water each day. Take daily morning and evening walks for at least 20-30 minutes each. Eat whole grains /nuts/sprouts and Muesli in breakfast Avoid removing bran from the flour because it clears the intestines  Avoid refined foods like white flour, bread, pasta, pizza, white rice,or high protein foods like cheese, meat and cold foods like ice cream or chilled drinks  Take meals in a relaxed and calm atmosphere. The food should be warm and freshly -prepared, as cold food slows the digestive power. Take 30 ml/6 tsp of sypDuphalac thrice daily after meals with lukewarm water. Soak 3-4 dried figs after washing them overnight in water. Eat them first thing in the morning,

Diet & exercise is key to control sugars along with medication. Check your hba1c value. At your age we try to keep it near normal i. E. 6.5. Regular blood sugar check up is imp. Do you have family history of diabetes? what is your weight, height? fbs / ppbs. Insulin fasting?

Hello, if symptoms are sneezing, running nose, blocked nose 1. Take proper rest/ lot of fluids 2. Take proper home made diet. 3. Steam inhalation carefully by steam inhaler twice a day for 2-3 days continuous cold may be because of many reasons like: 1. Any ENT problem like DNS, polyp, sinusitis 2. Low immunity 3. Allergic condition like Allergic Rhinitis so you need to consult ENT doctor for proper examination and further management.

DM - Neurology
Neurologist,

The two readings of BP that you have mentioned are slightly high; you should get it corroborated by showing a nurse practitioner or a doctor who will check your BP for you. If the BP readings are high on multiple occasions at different times of the day, then you may have Hypertension, which is the disease in which High BP is the only problem. Since you are young, it may be related to gestation, or there may be an underlying condition which can cause Hypertension; this is called Secondary Hypertension, and investigations may be required to find an underlying condition (such as Kidney disease, hormonal disorders, etc). All these are best done by a Physician well-versed in management of Hypertension. The last thing I would like to say here is this: nobody in this world loves to take medicines; if there is someone like that, I have not met that person. Taking medicines has nothing to do with our likes or preferences; it has to be taken for better health and quality of life. If your physician identifies that you have Hypertension and that you need to take medications to prevent the damage that Hypertension can cause, then you actually have no choice. The silver lining is that Hypertension (again, assuming you have it) can be reversible in the early stages, or be very easily controlled by appropriate diet, exercise, and lifestyle changes. Till such time that it does not become permanent or severe, you have the choice of using these non-pharmacological methods. I definitely hope you don't have Hypertension and all this is a false alarm; but even if you do have it, please understand that it is not such a bad thing to be taking medicines for high BP.
