In case of trauma, there might be complete displacement of tooth from its socket. In those scenario, try to keep calm as the tooth can be reimplanted if proper precautions are taken. Avoid touching the root part of tooth. The recommended storage medium for the knocked out tooth is the patient's own saliva, that is placing the tooth under tongue or in cheek. Make sure patient is not young enough to swallow the tooth. Also glass of milk can be used as storage medium. Seek emergency dental treatment immediately.

What You Must Know Before You Get ROOT CANAL Treatment

What you must know before you get root canal treatment

Root canal treatment also known as endodontics is performed to treat and heal an infected or badly damaged tooth rather than removing it. When your teeth start decaying, you do not feel any pain for a very long time. However, gradually the darkening of your tooth color may become prominent which could mean that the tooth nerve is dying or has died. That's the time you will need root canal treatment which involves cleaning of the canals inside the roots of your tooth.

Why you may need the root canal treatment

Teeth consist of a soft core known as dental pulp. This pulp goes beyond the crown and the noticeable part of your tooth to the root tip inside your jawbone. The pulp contains blood vessels, nerves, and connective tissue. So when your tooth is damaged or has a severe cavity, bacteria can easily make their way through the pulp. Symptoms and signs of a sore tooth include a hole in your tooth, a swelling around the regions of your face and neck, gum swelling, tooth pain or a toothache and temperature sensitivity. If it is left untreated, the decaying material and bacteria can cause a tooth abscess or severe infection, resulting in a bone loss, pulp death and even loss of the tooth itself. The root canal treatment is the best way to save the damaged teeth and escaping the painful process of extraction.

What does the treatment involve?

The purpose of the treatment is to free your root canal from every possible infection. The root is then cleaned and filled to avoid any further infection.

Root canal treatment is a skilled procedure which is time-consuming and usually requires from 2-3 visits to your dentist.

In the initial stage, the infected pulp is isolated to drain out abscesses (if any), followed by the cleaning of your root canal which is then prepared for a temporary filling.

Your tooth is then left to settle down.

In the next visit, your tooth is checked to see whether it’s free from all forms of infection so that it can be permanently filled.

'consult'.

You need to have x ray. Then only we can anticipate. So do not wait visit the dentist. But as a general health do brush twice your teeth. And do warm saline rinses 3 times a week. It will give you relief.

I am 36 yrs female, sensitivity especially on the back side of teeth to cold, is it advisable to use sensodyne and for how long. I guess sensodyne is symptomatic relief, does it repair enamel? are herbal toothpaste better than chemical based? kindly suggest.

BDS
Dentist, Bangalore
Sensitivity is directly related to teeth wear away.. That is cervical abrasion( caused by faulty tooth brushing technique), attrition( teething or night grinding habit) or by erosion( caused by intake of aerated drinks).. These can be treated by either fillings or night guard appliance depending on the exact cause.. If left untreated then ends up with RCTs with crown, which is not necessary.. As u knw, tooth paste will just relives the symptoms but not the cause.. So plz do visit the dentist to know the exact cause and accordingly the treatment plan..

Filling will not remove in shorter duration. It is better to fill the decayed tooth instead of leaving it untreated.

Helo sir I am Akash I am 25 yrs old man n I have suffering from cavity problem so what should I di.

6- Cavity Having cavities is not a serious problem at all. Cavities which are not too deep can be excavated and be restored by a dental cement. Cavities that are very deep can be cured by root canal treatment followed by crown ( cap ). For better prevention of cavities , 1- Follow proper brushing technique. 2- Brush twice a day 3-clean your teeth immediately every time after you eat food or liquids. 4- Undergo scaling ( cleaning of teeth) at the interval of every 5-6 months. 5- Visit dentist for regular oral cavity check up every 4 months for the early diagnosis and prevention of dental diseases. If the mouth ulcer is causing a lot of pain, gently rub a small ice cube over the spot or rinse your mouth with ice-cold water. You could also chew on a clove bud (lavang) and direct the juice generated to the area where the ulcer is located. Clove buds are a great ingredient to cure sore throat too. To prevent the ulcerated area from getting infected, make it a point to rinse your mouth with a little salt water. Remember, this won’t make the ulcer disappear, but it can help reduce the pain. Honey is a natural humectant. It helps reduce scarring and hastens the process of new tissue growth. This, along with its anti-microbial effect ensures faster healing of the mouth ulcer. Chew a few leaves of tulsi along with some water about three to four times every day. This will help in getting rid of ulcers faster and also have a preventive action against their recurrence. Applying a little coconut oil directly onto the mouth ulcer or chewing some coconut (fresh or dry) helps reduce pain and inflammation and hence, ulcers heal faster. Mix some sugar to crushed khus-khus seeds and consume this mixture for instant relief from ulcers. You could apply a little ghee directly to the ulcerated area, or drink a glass of buttermilk two or three times every day. Mouth ulcers left untreated generally go away in a week or so; with these home remedies, you can expect faster relief. However, if you notice an ulcer in the mouth that is persistently present although it does not cause you any pain, do not neglect it or try to treat it with home remedies beyond a few days. Make it a point to see a doctor soon because often, a painless mouth ulcer is one of the earliest signs of oral cancer.
