What are the symptoms of ebola and what are the steps should be taken to avoid it?
Symptoms usually begin with a sudden influenza-like stage characterized by feeling tired, fever, weakness, decreased appetite, muscular pain, joint pain, headache, and sore throat. Ginger tea is also traditionally used for stomach problems, most famously for preventing or stopping nausea. It may help with nausea due to chemotherapy or surgery. Using ginger to relieve morning sickness during pregnancy is controversial.

Age 7 years. He suffering from fever and cough. When I did blood test found typhoid. What medicine I should take?

BHMS
Homeopath, Faridabad
Age 7 years. He suffering from fever and cough. When I did blood test found typhoid. What medicine I should take?
Hello. Start with homoeopathic medicine which not only treats Typhoid, but also will boost up his immune system - Schwabe's Baptisia 200/ thrice daily and Alfaalfa Tonic/ thrice daily 1/2 an hr before meals - give these for 2 weeks. There after get back to me for further guidance. Take Care! Management: Give your child plenty of water, light & bland food which is easy to digest, These foods during typhoid will also help your immune system recover as quickly as possible. Soft foods are easy to digest and so the first requirement of any typhoid dietary treatment plan is that all the included foods are mashed or at least cooked until they are very soft. Slightly overcooked rice along with yogurt should be included in a diet for typhoid patients as rice contains a small amount of fiber that helps to regulate the digestive system while yogurt contains healthy cultures that reduce the severity of stomach flu. Avoid milk as it is tougher to digest and is likely to aggravate diarrhea. Juices and carbohydrate rich items such as steamed fruits are very important. The typhoid diet for vegetarians is the same as the diet plan for non-vegetarians as animal products are restricted during this period. Meat is tough to digest and can aggravate diarrhea, gas, and other such digestive problems. Steamed and finely shredded chicken can be added to a soup to increase the patient's protein intake.Buttermilk and softened soda crackers are good options while bland rice pudding, porridge, and custard are also good typhoid foods. The profuse sweating results in a drastic loss of fluids, vitamins, and electrolytes such as sodium and potassium. It is therefore important to include a variety of well steamed fruits and vegetables in the patient's typhoid diet and treatment plan. Ask your doctor for a list of foods that you can eat and include these in your typhoid diet chart. In addition to the foods that you need to include in your diet there are also several typhoid food restrictions.

Flu Vaccine Effectiveness: How Well Does It Work?

MBBS, MD - Medicine, Masters in Evidence Based Medicine
General Physician, Delhi
Flu Vaccine Effectiveness: How Well Does It Work?

Yearly flu vaccination is the best tool currently available to protect against influenza (flu).

While how well the flu vaccine works can vary, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends a yearly flu vaccination as the first and most important step in protecting against flu and its potentially serious complications. Millions of people have safely received flu vaccines for decades. Flu vaccination can reduce flu illnesses, doctors' visits, and missed work and school due to flu, as well as prevent flu-related hospitalizations.

A flu vaccination does not guarantee protection against the flu. Some people who get vaccinated might still get sick. However, people who get a flu vaccine are less likely to get sick with flu or hospitalized from flu than someone who does not get vaccinated.

Why do I need to get vaccinated every year?

New flu vaccines are released every year to keep up with rapidly adapting flu viruses. Because flu viruses evolve so quickly, last year's vaccine may not protect you from this year's viruses.

After vaccination, your immune system produces antibodies that will protect you from the vaccine viruses. In general, though, antibody levels start to decline over time — another reason to get a flu shot every year.

Flu vaccines bring down the risks of suffering from flu. However, its effectiveness is based on different factors.

  1. Age: Usually, the flu vaccine happens to work the best for healthy adults. However, these vaccines cannot work as well with children, especially infants (below the age of 2-3 years). Nevertheless, the efficacy improves with age. Since older people are more prone to contracting the flu virus, it is essential that they get themselves vaccinated. Even if the vaccine is not able to ward off the flu entirely, it can still help reduce the risks to some extent.

  2. General Health: Vaccine spurs immunity into action. It helps your body in identifying and fighting the virus. The efficacy of the flu vaccine solely depends on the capability of your body’s immunity system and how well it responds to the virus. Chronic illnesses weaken your body’s defense mechanism and with a poor immunity system, the vaccine may not work properly.

  3. The time of the vaccination: For optimal protection, it is advised to go for the vaccination every year right before the ‘flu’ season starts. This is because after the flu season gets done with, old vaccines may not work as effectively.

The flu vaccine needs to be updated every season to guard you against the kind of flu dominant in that particular year. Getting yourself vaccinated is also not a guaranteed foolproof protection, however, it does render partial immunity and helps reduce the severity of the symptoms. However, it should be noted that flu vaccine cannot shield one from cold viruses.

It may be due to fungal infection. You need to 1. Keep the groin area dry and wear fresh underwear everyday 2. Apply anti fungal cream to the area for 7 days 3. Use antifungal dusting powder to the area twice daily. There is a tendency with fungal infection to recur, so it is important to have a good hygiene. Contact for prescription. Take care.

What is the symptoms of dengue? I am suffering from fever for last one week . What to do now? Please suggest me what should I do now.

MBBS, DNB (General Medicine), Certified in Evidence Based Diabetes Management, MNAMS

What is the symptoms of dengue? I am suffering from fever for last one week . What to do now? Please suggest me what ...
Thank you for the query dengue is presently quite prevalent in kolkata and its surrounding areas. Dengue symptoms are like any other viral fever with symptoms like high grade fever (usually more than 100f), severe headache, generalised weakness, malaise, rashes, upper abdominal pain and joint pain. In some complicated cases of dengue a patient may present with bleeding (due to fall in platelet count) and other manifestations like reduced urine output and shortness of breath. However, there is no need to worry right now as even if it is dengue, most of them are uncomplicated. I would like to know whether you are suffering from any other symptoms like cough or burnig during urination. Please get the following blood tests done - complete hemogram, dengue igm, dengue ns1 ag, malaria parasite/dual antigen, liver function test and urine routine examination. Take normal diet and drink plenty of water to keep yourself hydrated. Keep a temperature chart if possible. You can continue with paracetamol if fever exceeds 100f or in case of severe headache (but not more than 3-4 tablet per day). Take a course of multivitamin tablets. Till dengue is ruled out, avoid aspirin group of medications (as they interfere with platelet function). Watch out for any bleeding from any site (like nose bleed or gum bleeding) or development of small petechial spots in the skin. Regards.

My friend is suffering from a disease which does not allow him to sleep. He is very tensed and also do not eat proper...
1. Sleep well and regular. Irregular sleep can have some serious consequences. It affects both our physical health and also contributes to anxiety and stress. Anxiety as such also leads to disruptions in sleep. When feeling anxious, always try to get a full 7 to 9 hours of uninterrupted sleep and it can work wonders to improve your condition. 2. Always keep smiling. Take a quick break in between your hectic work to get some laughs with your friends. Laughter can reduce depression and anxiety and has proven benefits. 3. Tidy up your living space or workspace. Keep your things clean and clutter-free. That helps us think clear and thus reducing levels of anxiety. 4. Say thank you often. Expressing your thanks for something helps reduce anxiety. 5. Eat smart. Eating more of foods which are rich in vitamin b and omega-3 fatty acids and also healthy whole grain carbs. Vitamin b contributes to good mental health. While omega 3 fatty acids help with both depression and anxiety. Whole grain foods boost serotonin and helps us remain poised. Eating high-sugar content food and processed foods can increase levels of anxiety. 6. Learn to breathe well and relax. Short, shallow breaths arise when you are tensed. So consciously breathing deeply, plus increasing the duration and depth of breathing helps relax the body and mind to a great extent. 7. Meditate. Meditation has so many positive effects on stress, mood, and anxiety. Club meditation with positive thinking to improve your general well-being and overall health. Yoga is also very effective to take off stress from the body and mind by deep relaxation and breathing techniques. 8. Chill and be silent. Reduce the noise and clutter talk that contributes to anxiety. Find time for yourself and be alone to muse upon your own matters without anyone disturbing you. 9. Worry. Yes, we can cause ourselves to freak out, but only for a certain amount of time. When something weighs heavily on your mind, or you believe something terrible is most definitely going to occur, commit to only creating that worry for 20 minutes. Think of all the possible outcomes of the scenario, figure out some game plans, and then quit thinking about it after 20 minutes go by. Have a friend call after the allotted time has passed to avoid the temptation of going over the time limit. Or schedule some of that playtime right afterward. 10. Plan for the future but do not worry about it. Make time tables and to-do lists so that you will not be worried about finishing stuff and so that you can increase your productivity. 11. Be positive. When you feel anxious, train your mind to think and feel positive and give reinforcement to yourself that you can handle any situation. This will significantly reduce your stress and anxiety symptoms. 12. Smell relaxing stuff. Go out to your garden. Smell a fresh rose. Take a deep breathe and allow the relaxation to course through your whole body. You can also use relaxing aroma therapy and use it indoors. 13. Go out and spend time with your friends and family. Spend time with your pets social support reduces anxiety and stress to such a great extent that it is almost always bearable. So next time you get on your nerves, go out with your friends, chat with them, watch a movie, spend some time watching the waves in the beach with your partner, talk to your siblings. If you have tried all these and still have problems, please consult me for prescription medication.
