My wife age is 25. She is in 21 weeks pregnant women now. Can I have intercourse with her.

MD - Obstetrtics & Gynaecology, MBBS
Gynaecologist,
My wife age is 25. She is in 21 weeks pregnant women now. Can I have intercourse with her.
Yes, you can have sex during pregnancy. Provided you have some precautions. Avoid sex in the last month of pregnancy. Let the pregnant lady have the last say in the matter. Respect her wish. If she refuses, do not fight. Think of other ways to have sexual pleasure, like masturbation, oral sex (women does to man) etc. Anal sex is not to be done in pregnancy as piles are common and liable to bleed. Use a condom at each sex, to prevent the infection from affecting the pregnant woman whose immunity is reduced during pregnancy. Avoid missionary position as it causes pressure on the pregnant tummy. Use side by side position or woman on top position or woman at edge of bed and man standing position to have sex.

Dear, In Ayurveda it is termed as KAMSHITALTA. According to Ayurveda Kapha dosha is responsible for sexual disorders such as frigidity. In frigidity, functions of sukra dhatu and Ojus are disturbed. CHARAK SAMHITA says blindly trying to do better in bed is less useful than improving the basic relationship. So talk to your partner about your problems, hopes and fears and try to solve them together.

Hello Doctors, My girlfriend (24 years) is experiencing itching in left breast and a tiny lump in right breast, she is about to have her period after two days, is it due to PMS or she have to go for checkup Some times a transparent white discharge comes out from nipple after squeezing the breast Please help!

MD - General Medicine, D.M. Medical oncology
Oncologist, Delhi
Dear lybrate-user I will try to answer all your queries one by one 1. Itching in the left breast is due to some local cause which can be addressed only after detailed examination by a doctor. [ most likely a non serious condition] 2. Considering her age [ 24 years] ,the tiny lump in the breast is most likely to be a non cancerous condition. It could be fibroadenoma [ a benign tumor i.e not a cancer ] which may or may not require any further therapy depending on the size and rate of growth 3.The whitish discharge she is having could be due to a medical condition called galactorrhoea [ inappropriate secretion of milk in non lactating women] due to inappropriate secretion of prolactin hormone. This symptom requires further evaluation with measurement of serum prolactin hormone to decide about further management as this condition is often found in women of this age group. I would advice you to visit a breast surgeon for evaluation of right breast lump and left breast itching and therafer after his opinion you may require an opinion from endocrinologist for the whitish discharge. Do not worry, it may seem that I have raised suspicion for two different conditions but rest assured that both the condition if found are treatable. Hope I have answered your questions.

Pregnancy Spotting? Know The Causes

Pregnancy Spotting? Know The Causes

Reasons for spotting during pregnancy and what you can do about it

Seeing spots of blood during pregnancy is usually a cause for concern. However, it is not uncommon. The light bleeding, which is known as spotting may occur for a number of reasons.

Bleeding during the first trimester

Spotting is most likely to happen during early pregnancy and the reasons could be many, such as:

- Implantation bleeding occurs during the first month of pregnancy when the fertilised egg gets attached to the wall of the uterus.

- Cervical polyps ( a tumour that form on the surface of the cervix) or yeast infection may also cause episodes of spotting.

- Miscarriage may be another possible reason for spotting

- Ectopic pregnancy is another cause. It is the condition in which the embryo plants itself in either of the fallopian tubes instead of the uterus.

- Molar pregnancy is a rare condition associated with spotting during pregnancy. When this is the case, instead of your baby, an abnormal tissue grows inside the uterus. Sometimes it can be cancerous too.

Bleeding during the second or third trimesters

Spotting may also occur during late pregnancy and the possible reasons are listed below.

- Problems related to placenta like placenta previa placental abruption can also result in spotting. These are serious conditions when the placenta either covers the cervix or it gets detached from the uterine wall respectively.

- Uterine rupture is the rare and unfortunate event when a scar from a previous surgery (like the removal of fibroid or previous caesarean scar bursts open and the baby slips into the pregnant woman's abdomen.

- Premature labour occurs when your body is too eager to deliver the baby, usually one month before the due date of delivery.

- Vasa Previa is another rare condition when a baby who is still developing has his blood vessels entangled in the umbilical cord or placenta-crossing the cervix. It is extremely dangerous because the blood vessels may burst open thus causing the baby to bleed and lose oxygen.

Here's what you can do about spotting

It is strongly recommended that you should immediately see your doctor as soon as you detect any spotting during your pregnancy. Only a well-qualified medical expert can suggest the appropriate steps to be taken, depending on your individual reasons and symptoms related to spotting.

In case you have a concern or query you can always consult an expert & get answers to your questions!
