Passing stools infrequently is not uncommon in that age. Frequent urination is due to adequate breastfeeding. Nothing to worry much.

We need to Feed my 3wks old baby lactozen 1 whenever we are travelling or I am not around. We usually give 30ml water n 1scoop lactozen. Is it sufficient or we need to increase the amount?

MD, MBBS
Pediatrician, Cuttack
Avoid tin food which has multiple adverse effects on baby. Exclusive breastfeeding for first 6 months is ideal. Breasrfeeding during travel is not in issue for the greater interest of your baby's good health in future.

In extreme cold weather there are chances of frost bite, thermal injuries leading to influenza (cold cough fever). Usually we know well to protect us from from extreme cold weather but over protection may lead to other type of immunological thermal injuries. For example suppose temperature of water in overhead tank is 4 degree Celsius chilled and we can not bath or drink chilled water than we will start heating and sooner it will become warm at 40 degree Celsius. Now we will start bathing at this temperature of water in chilled air. Temperature difference between bathroom air and water goes beyond 20 degree Celsius (35 degree Celsius). This difference between bathroom air and water temperature of more than 20 degrees Celsius causes other type of thermal injuries leading to Allergies and infection due to breach in immunity.

Bedwetting - 7 Possible Reasons Behind It

Bedwetting - 7 Possible Reasons Behind It

Bedwetting or nocturnal enuresis, refers to the unintentional passage of urine during sleep. Enuresis is the medical term for wetting, whether in the clothing during the day or in bed at night. Another name for enuresis is urinary incontinence. For infants and young children, urination is involuntary. Wetting is normal for them. Most children achieve some degree of bladder control by 4 years of age. Daytime control is usually achieved first, while nighttime control comes later.

The age at which bladder control is expected varies considerably. Some parents expect dryness at a very early age, while others not until much later. Such a time line may reflect the culture and attitudes of the parents and caregivers.

Factors that affect the age at which wetting is considered a problem include the following:

  1. The child's gender: Bedwetting is more common in boys.
  2. The child's development and maturity
  3. The child's overall physical and emotional health. Chronic illness and/or emotional and physical abuse may predispose to bedwetting.

Causes

No one knows for sure what causes bed-wetting, but various factors may play a role:

  1. A small bladder: Your child's bladder may not be developed enough to hold urine produced during the night.
  2. Inability to recognize a full bladder: If the nerves that control the bladder are slow to mature, a full bladder may not wake your child, especially if your child is a deep sleeper.
  3. A hormone imbalance: During childhood, some kids don't produce enough anti-diuretic hormone (ADH) to slow nighttime urine production.
  4. Stress: Stressful events, such as becoming a big brother or sister, starting a new school, or sleeping away from home, may trigger bed-wetting.
  5. Urinary tract infection: This infection can make it difficult for your child to control urination.
  6. Sleep apnea: Sometimes bed-wetting is a sign of obstructive sleep apnea, a condition in which the child's breathing is interrupted during sleep.
  7. Diabetes: For a child who's usually dry at night, bed-wetting may be the first sign of diabetes.

A structural problem in the urinary tract or nervous system. Rarely, bed-wetting is related to a defect in the child's neurological system or urinary system.

Symptoms

  1. Wetting during the day
  2. Frequency, urgency, or burning on urination
  3. Straining, dribbling, or other unusual symptoms with urination
  4. Cloudy or pinkish urine, or blood stains on underpants or pajamas
  5. Soiling, being unable to control bowel movements
  6. Constipation

Most kids are fully toilet trained by age 5, but there's really no target date for developing complete bladder control. Between the ages of 5 and 7, bed-wetting remains a problem for some children. After 7 years of age, a small number of children still wet the bed.

When to see a doctor: Most children outgrow bed-wetting on their own, but some need a little help. In other cases, bed-wetting may be a sign of an underlying condition that needs medical attention.

Consult your child's doctor if:

  1. Your child still wets the bed after age 7
  2. Your child starts to wet the bed after a few months or more of being dry at night
  3. Bed-wetting is accompanied by painful urination, unusual thirst, pink or red urine, hard stools, or snoring
  4. Self-Care at Home

Here are some tips for helping your child stop wetting the bed. These are techniques that are most often successful

  1. Reduce evening fluid intake.
  2. The child should urinate in the toilet before bedtime.
  3. A system of sticker charts and rewards works for some children.
  4. Make sure the child has safe and easy access to the toilet.

Some believe that you should avoid using diapers or pull-ups at home because they can interfere with the motivation to wake up and use the toilet. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a doctor and ask a free question.

I have 5 month old baby and I wanna know for how many minutes I boil water for milk.
If you are interested to give top milk, start with dairy milk n continue breastfeeding. Weaning time is also near by. Boiling is not related to time but to well boiling.

1 year 3 month baby had a cardiac problem which is called (coa, had he spend his life normally after andrioscopy?
Hello thanks for the query the management and outcome of coarctation of aorta depends on its severity and it's effect on lung. If coarctation is mild and cardiac contractility is good you can wait. If possible the surgery should be deferred till 5 years of age as if operated earlier baby may need to be operated again. Please attach the report so that I better able to help you out. Regards.

It’s a common concern to watch young kids eat mud, chalks, plaster from wall, sand and other such dirt or rather ‘inedible items’. 1. Keep you home spic and span and free of dust and dirt. 2. Keep all sand, dust, clay and soil related items at a greter height. 3. Also teach your kids to wash their hands and mouth after playing with the dirt 4. Give a balanced diet to your child with increased proportion of calcium, iron and zinc. These can be obtained from meat (esp. Read meat), liver, eggs, seafood, grains, cereals, and legumes and dairy products. Consult your pediatrician, who may prescribe supplements.

My baby is 5 weeks old and vomits after feed since birth. She takes both the powder feeds and mother feeds. Since yesterday she is suffering from 99.5 fever measured from underarms. She has cold with a block nose and cough. She is refusing to feed frequently and is not as active as she normally is. Her birth weight was 3 kg and now her weight is 4.3 kg. We consulted multiple paediatricians and as per their advice we gave her 1 ml of DOMSTAL Baby drops three times a day for two days. However we noticed that she cried a lot and was really very fuzzy and was not sleeping at all so we stopped giving domstal. Right now she is suffering from fever, block nose and cough and vomiting after every feed so kindly suggest the best way possible to cure her health.

Pediatrician, Indore

As I can understand your baby has regurgitation issues. Try to give your feed every 2 hrs followed by burping for minimum of 20 min. Give powder feed only if she demands despite your feeds. If she does not burp even after 20 min, in your lap keep her on stomach and pat a little. When you r awake put her to in lateral position instead of putting on back. Keep in cool environment. It is very hot so that also leads to poor feeding and fever. Must visit pediatrician if child is dull and not passing urine sufficiently.

He might be 5th std. As we know children always vulnerable to suffer any type of disease till 10-12 years, unfortunate to know, he suffered from Dengue. Here, Im addressing of you 3-4th questions. Usually Childhood disorder, there would some precipitating factor to develop any types of problems usually, that would be no doubt academic activities. Stop worrying about his physical illness anyway that can be taken proper treatment. Now he required special attention related to his future in terms of academic activities need to be given special attention. My advise 1. Whatever he had general health complication is there first should be treated 2. Should not be over pampered at this stage by providing all he wanted 3. Find out Clinical or child Psychologist get id did done his IQ, he will also take care of counselling if required 4. Find out some special educator where he can be motivated and given special coaching for him as per his course curriculum 5. Some sort of physical exercise need to be assign to him, by assisting by you people. All the best.
