General Physician,
1. 7 Lifestyle-Based Ways to Improve Your Memory 1. Eat Right. The foods you eat ? and don't eat ? play a crucial role in your memory. ... 2. Exercise. ... 3. Stop Multitasking. ... 4. Get a Good Night's Sleep. ... 5. Play Brain Games. ... 6. Master a New Skill. ... 7. Try Mnemonic Devices. There are mind training and some memory boosting medicines also. Ask me privately. Eight Ways to Remember Anything Research-based strategies to boost your memory and keep it strong 8 Strategies for Remembering 1. Become interested in what you're learning. We're all better remembering what interests us. Few people, for example, have a difficult time remembering the names of people they find attractive. If you're not intrinsically interested in what you're learning or trying to remember, you must find a way to become so. 2. Find a way to leverage your visual(link is external) memory. You'll be astounded by how much more this will enable you to remember. For example, imagine you're at a party and are introduced to five people in quick succession. How can you quickly memorize their names? Pick out a single defining visual characteristic of each person and connect it to a visual representation of their name, preferably through an action of some kind. For example, you can remember Mike who has large ears by creating a mental picture of a microphone (a "mike") clearing those big ears of wax (gross, I know?but all the more effective because of it). It requires mental effort to do this, but if you practice you'll be surprised how quickly you can come up with creative ways to generate these images. Here's another example: How often do you forget where you left your keys, your sunglasses, or your wallet? The next time you put something down somewhere, pause a moment to notice where you've placed it, and then in your mind blow it up. If you visualize the explosion in enough detail, you won't forget where you put it. Remember: Memory is predominantly visual. 3. Create a mental memory tree. If you're trying to memorize a large number of facts, find a way to relate them in your mind visually with a memory tree. Construct big branches first, then leaves. Branches and leaves should carry labels that are personally meaningful to you in some way, and the organization of the facts ("leaves") should be logical. It's been well recognized since the 1950's we remember "bits" of information better if we chunk them. For example, it's easier to remember 467890 as "467" and "890" than as six individual digits. 4. Associate what you're trying to learn with what you already know. It seems the more mental connections we have to a piece of information, the more successful we'll be in remembering it. This is why using mnemonics. Write out the items to be memorized over and over and over. Among other things, this is how I learned the names of bacteria, what infections they cause, and what antibiotics treat them. Writing out facts(link is external) in lists improves recall if you make yourself learn the lists actively instead of passively. In other words, don't just copy the list of facts you're trying to learn but actively recall each item you wish to learn and then write it down again and again and again. In doing this, you are, in effect, teaching yourself what you're trying to learn?and as all teachers know, the best way to ensure you know something is to have to teach it. This method has the added benefit of immediately showing you exactly which facts haven't made it into your long-term memory so you can focus more attention on learning them rather than wasting time reinforcing facts you already know. 5. When reading for retention, summarize each paragraph in the margin. This requires you to think about what you're reading, recycle it, and teach it to yourself again. Even take the concepts you're learning and reason forward with them; apply them to imagined novel situations, which creates more neural connections to reinforce the memory. 6. Do most of your studying in the afternoon. Though you may identify yourself as a "morning person" or "evening person" at least one Study. suggests your ability to memorize isn't influenced as much by what time of day you perceive yourself to be most alert but by the time of day you actually study?afternoon appearing to be the best. 7. Get adequate sleep to consolidate and retain memories. Not just at night(link is external) after you've studied but the day before(link is external) you study as well. Far better to do this than to stay up cramming all night for an exam.

Humans are social by nature and loneliness can be very depressing. Find something interesting to do in life, meet like minded people with whom you can share doing activities. Excessive sweating may cause for anxiousness. You are suffering from anxiety disorder. You are belong to a very good traditional family. It is better to consult psychiatrist for medicine along with medicine. You need psychological counselling and behaviour therapy. You need both psychiatrist and psychologist. Better to consult initially psychologist. He suggest some of the relaxation methods in that your problems solved it is ok. If not then consult psychiatrist for medical help. It is better to share your internal frustrated thoughts to other friends and family members. Do not sit alone. Do not think too much about past incidents and present status. Feel always comfortable. Better to practice yoga and meditation. Be happy all the time. Be feel fresh all the time. Better to control yourself and come out of this problem. If not possible yourself. Better to take the help of professionals. Be sociable and be happy all the time. Ok best of luck.

Since the problem began to appear only recently, I think, it is not a serious one. If he has a habit of watching cartoon channels in tv, or using any other electronic gadgets for playing games, stop them immediately at any cost. And if he complains of such thoughts, just ignore them giving some funny comments without hurting him. This helps reducing anxiety associated with the problem thoughts, and also will reduce the frequency and intensity of such thoughts, if it is the case of attention seeking behaviour. Some children do like that intentionally to attract the attention of parents. If the symptom petsists even after 1month following the above modifictions, consult a paediatric psychiatrist.

I am diagnosed with bipolar 2 and borderline personality disorder. Do I have to take medicine my whole life?

Reparenting Technique, BA, BEd

I am diagnosed with bipolar 2 and borderline personality disorder. Do I have to take medicine my whole life?
Probably, if you do not combine medication with counseling. Both can be crippling diseases if not treated and if treated early the prognosis is good. So quickly visit a psychiatrist and seek his/her opinion and you must then follow the medication prescribed. Comply with all the medical prescriptions and work in tandem with a counselor for a long time and learn coping skills and techniques to handle the daily challenges you will face. There are certain adaptations that will suit you during the elation phase and there are certain behaviors that are required during the depressed phases. In the meantime, you can do certain things that will give you benefits anyway. Emotional therapy will alleviate a lot of the problems faced in this condition because it is a mood disorder. You need to particularly look at your levels of anger both for its reasonableness and to express it in an appropriate manner. I suspect that much of this anger may have origins in early childhood that you may never be aware of now. Talk to your parents and explore that angle. This information will help the counselor too. Also, you will need to check whether there is any genetic factor involved. You must exercise regularly, eat healthily and sleep normally too. If your motivation and cooperation are good much can be achieved. You must have a time-structured schedule filled with interesting and reasonable activities and it must be monitored for compliance and delivery. The reason I say this is that many times you will be inclined to have grandiose notions and confidently believe that you can do without the medication. This will set you back many months in the treatment and delay and sabotage the recovery: forewarned you are forearmed. If this combination of medication with therapy is maintained for at least three years without any episodes or breakdowns, it is possible to taper the medication in consonance with the doctor. Bipolar is characterized by two extreme poles i. E. Feeling very high (mania) and suddenly feeling very low (depression). You can ask the doctor for the symptoms he noticed in you for a personal understanding.

My son is 29 years old. Dr. diagnosed him as schizophrenia since last 8 years. Now a days he is refusing to take medicines. Antiphyscotic medicine was going on. We are giving him risperidone 1.5ml morning, 1.5 ml evening olanzapine 15mg evening and aripiprazole 10mg morning. We were giving these medicines without telling him. But alternative episodes are according after about every 15 days. I want to know such type of medicine which stop the symptoms and stop the future episodes. Is any medicine exist which prevent this disease and a person could live its normal life. Is ETC a better treatment for schizophrenia? Frequently ETC is required for this disease? kindly intimate.

D.P.M(psychiatry) [Diploma in Psychological medicine] , MBBS
Psychiatrist, Jalna
Hello, schizophrenia is a disorder characterised by delusions, hallucinations, fear, anger, and negative symptoms like reduced motivation, speech and activity. It does have exacerbations and remissions, but frequent episodes every 15 days is seen more commonly in mood disorder. There are drugs available for refractory schizophrenia. Also optimising dose of current anti psychotics with addition of a mood stabilizer is helpful. Ect is used to treat schizophrenia, particularly for positive symptoms like delusions, hallucinations or suicidal ideas. Take care.

What are symptoms of phobia? What are home remedies? What is diet? What is medical treatment?

M.S. Counselling and Psychotherapy
Psychologist, Bangalore
Phobia is different than fear. Mostly people are scared of water, dark, heights, insects etc. Such people may try to avoid such triggers. But this is only normal fear and this is not phobia. Phobia is a morbid and unnatural/irrational fear about something, experienced by some people only, which generally does not create such intense emotions in other people. E. G. If someone might be very scared to see a lizard to the extent that it almost paralyzes that person and can make that person dysfunctional for some time, then it is called phobia. Someone might be very very scared, just to see a piece of" cotton" - then this is called phobia. The triggers for phobia can be totally non-threatening. The general symptoms of phobia are: 1. Very intense, morbid fear about something which is non-threatening. 2. The person with phobia is almost paralyzed for some time, with the trigger. 3. Other people may not be affected at all by the trigger. 4. The person with phobia feels completely helpless at that time and behaves irrationally. 5. The person may experience increased heart beat, shivering, loss of voice, sweating etc. There is no specific diet for phobia. The best treatment for phobia is psychotherapy. A psychotherapist uses different techniques depending on the patient's emotional make up and needs and help the person to come out of it, systematically.

I am on following medicine combination for Major depression-Lametac-100-BD,Buprol-150Mg XL1-1-0 , Venlafaxine-75Mg BD and Arpizile-10Mg HS Psychiatric combination , can there be long acting combination or a single medicine for all these medicine

MD - Psychiatry
Psychiatrist, Indore
If you are now better as per your depression diagnosis if it was MDD THEN ONLY aripiprazole AND LAMOTRIGINE CAN BE TAPPERED GRADUALY. If it is bipolar depression then stratigy can be different.there is no long acting combination for more then a day preparation.OD ONCE ADAY IS AVAILABLE. GRADUAL TAPERING DOWN ONLY TO ADEQUATE DOSE OF venlafaxine od 150 mg or 225 mg may be possible. I dont advise to do it own your own because self medication can be dangerous. Better go to your psychiatrist with your query, and ask him to try to settle yourself on single drug adquete dose. If you can talk to him sensibly he may be able to do this.Best luck.

Hello Dr. I'm 26 year old, I had relationship with one of my old collage friend. When we were in college we know each other only by faces but after completion of college she got married. And contacted me via social media. She always try to understand me and showing caring for me. After long chat we decided to meet. And after long caring and understanding relation she started convincing me about her love and feeling for me. I was quite confused she is married yet why she is loving me? But she continues. Share each and every thing about her past and present life. And started telling me that I am her priority then her husband. I was not interested in such talks of her. She cried lot of times in front of me. After all her emotional attachments I get involved in her unknowingly. But after some time I come to know that she had relationships before me with some guys yet she was married. Then she started ignoring me and and get closer to her computer class friend. We had lot of fights. She was so caring me and started insulting me, by telling it was my mistake that I get involved in her. I have taken revenge by telling everything to her husband. Her husband understand the situation and after her crying drama accepted her mistake and herself. She was so caring towards me. I can't stop thinking all about her that she is bad girl or good girl? I feel her presence in everything I do. Sometimes I'm getting angry and sometimes sad by remembering her. I want to forget her good or bad memories. Actually my mind changed towards all girls because of her. I tried to tell her all this. But her answer was it's your problem, let me live my life. Kindly understand my situation and advise how can I over come from this mental situation. I tried meditation and involve myself in different things but somewhere my mind sticks and starts think about her only.

Hi lybrate-user, I believe time is the best healer. One should not ruin their life for someone who is so busy in their own life to recognize your difficulties. She was just doing time pass with you- if she was serious she should have taken serious steps to be with you. Now that you have taken revenge also, there is nothing left to ponder over. One more thing, you are generalizing that every girl is like this. That's not true, no two people are same not even our two fingers, so just because one bad experience we can not get a major set back and veil our eyes. We should be open to experiences everyone has good or bad experiences, imagine that you were not married to her, if you had got married, her disloyalty would have made you go mad. So be thankful to god for getting rid of someone who just used you as a play toy. Time will make you forget her. Good effort by you to try meditation and different things. Do not tie your existence to a person, place or thing. There is a lot to be done and grow. You will be married soon with a beautiful wife- think about a bright future work towards it. Let bygones be bygones. All the best.
