Hello, first of all you should know what is backache and by which factors it caused and aggravated. The usual cause of low back pain is the sedentary lifestyle that we lead these days. There is hardly any movement. walking, running and cycling like activities are also not a part of our daily routine. To add to it, our diet consists more and more of junk food. Fresh fruits, vegetables and high fibre foods are consumed less and less. These daily practices lead to obesity. The increased body weight puts lot of pressure on the spine which has to bear all the extra unwanted weight. The back muscles which are already weak due to lack of exercise and wrong posture are unable to cope with this increased load. This causes pain in the back muscles. Management for Back Pain:-Along with medicines for relieving pain, one needs to identify the cause and correct it. This may require some medicines or some correction in your posture or reducing weight or improving your lifestyle. At the same time, there is a need to work on the local muscle strengthening. Back muscles need to be strengthened so that they can bear the weight of the upper body. For this exercises of the back muscles are very helpful. Regular walking is also very helpful as it is a wholesome exercise of the body, improves blood circulation and helps lose weight. Most importantly if you are overweight then losing weight is an important part of the whole treatment plan .Long term use of painkillers for low back pain is harmful. Treatment for back pain:- Homeopathic medicines are very helpful. They not only treat the acute stages but are also used for the treatment of chronic back pain.Selection of the exact remedy depends upon the individual symptoms of the person.So share the complete symptom picture for the proper treament. In the mean time take Arnica 200, 3 drops in the morning and Rhus tox. 200, 3 drops at night for 7 days.Take care.

Keep your leg raised while sitting or lying quadriceps strengthening exercises- quad clenches: lie flat on your back or sit upright on a chair with leg kept horizontally on another surface. Now, tighten the muscle on the front of the thigh by pushing your knee down. You should feel your thigh muscles clench, hold for 3 secs. Repeat 10 times twice a day. Short arcs: lie flat on your back or sit upright with your leg placed horizontally on a flat surface like a chair or bed. Place a rolled up towel under the knee. Pull your toes towards you and clench you thigh muscles. Slowly lift your foot up off the bed until your knee is straight (keep your knee resting on the towel). Hold for 3 secs and slowly lower them on the chair. Repeat 10 times twice a day. Straight leg raise: lie flat on your back. One leg and knee will be straight and other leg should be bent. Pull your toes towards you and tighten/clench the muscle on the front of the thigh, locking your knee straight. Lift your foot up in the air, about 6 inches off the bed. Hold for 3 secs and slowly lower the leg. The knee must remain straight the whole time you are doing this exercise. Hamstring stretching towel hamstring stretch lie on the back, supporting the thigh with the hand or with a towel wrapped around it. Slowly straighten the knee until a stretch is felt in the back of the thigh, trying to get the bottom of the foot to face the ceiling, one leg at a time. Hold the position initially for 10 seconds, and gradually work up to 20 to 30 seconds. Seated hamstring stretch while sitting at the edge of a chair, straighten one leg in front of the body with the heel on the floor. Then, sit up straight and try pushing the navel towards the thigh without leaning the trunk of the body forwards. Hold this stretch for 30 seconds repeat 3 times for each leg.

I am 30 weeks pregnant and two days ago I had gas problem. My doc prescribed pantop and duvadilan. It helped with gas but then I started feeling pain in my naval area. My doc said I had umbilical hernia. It's quite painful in my case but she says it cannot be cured as I am pregnant. Also she examined me internally and says baby has come down a little bit and prescribed rest for two weeks. I have following queries 1. I am doing very less physical activity and mostly lying on bed with pillow under my feet. Can this help in umbilical hernia. 2. I am bothered by the pain at night and cannot sleep properly. Also I am quite afraid of this hernia and how it might impact my baby. Can it be cured on its own. What all shall I avoid or do in order to cure it. 3. My doc says that the pains that I had was not because of gas and should have felt like labour pains. I am not sure how to distinguish the hernia pain and labour pain. Also please let me know how common is hernia during pregnancy? Am I the only one having it or is it a common problem?

Hernia does occur during pregnancy if there has been underlying weakness pre exhisting. Fotlr its treatment is to wait and watch only till delivery. Watch over for size of swelling at umbilicus if any. Umblical hernia pain is usually not very severe. The pain you are having may be labour pains. An examination by surgeon will help in confirmation of these issues.

Try to take good pretentious diet. Do jogging and walking. Take milk and its products. Otherwise consult a good physcian.

* sitting puts nearly twice the stress on the spine. Slouching while you sit increases the pressure even more. * slouching fatigues and overstretches the ligaments, causing back pain. * there's no vascular or nerve supply to the discs; they get their nutrition through movement. Reasons for your back pain: 1> tight leg muscles 2> weak back musculature 3> incorrect sitting posture treatment: 1> stretching - stretching of thigh muscles will help a lot. Consult a physiotherapist to teach you 2> strengthening - start exercises like swimming which helps to make your back muscles strong 3> change your position - try and put your wallet/ phone in the front pocket. Sitting upright as well as slouching is the worst posture while sitting. Support your back with a pillow/cushion while sitting.

Apply hot fomentation twice daily. Avoid bending in front. Postural correction- sit tall, walk tall. Extension exercises x 15 times x twice daily - lying on tummy, take left arm up for 3 seconds, then bring it down, right arm up for 3 seconds, bring down. Bring right leg up, hold for 3 seconds, bring it down. Then right leg up and hold for 3 seconds and bring it down. Repeat twice a day- 10 times. Bhujang asana -- lie flat on your stomach, keeping the palms out, bend the neck backward, take a deep breath and while holding it for 6 seconds, raise the chest up. Release breath and relax your body. Repeat the exercise 15 times twice daily. Core strengthening exercises- straight leg raised with toes turned outward, repeat 10 times, twice a day.

Hi I can understand your problem. 1 relax & stay positive. 2 take hot and cold fomentation. 3 learn posture care exercise. 4 use lumber support. 5 take break every 20 minutes. 6 do strengthening exercise of back and core muscles not all back pains are same. Please do share investigation reports if you have any.

I am having cervical type pain in my neck getting phijio therapy but problem is same.

1. Take one tablet of crocin pain relief sos after food upto a maximum of 3 tablets daily 2. Apply volini gel twice daily 3. Give warm compress locally 4. Take rest if you have recurrent attack of neck pain a) take x ray/mri cervical spine to exclude spondylitis and consult orthopedic specialist b) sometimes it could be due to bad sitting posture while reading or working on computer. Adopt proper sitting posture, put neck rest, use soft pillow while sleeping c) do physio therapy and neck exercise.

Check your BP and cardiac status. You can start exercising (esp Yoga- which includes pranayam and meditation) as it is very beneficial in Diabetes and maintaining overall health. WHEN YOU ARE IN SIGNIFICANT BACK PAIN -- Shall you Exercise or Not ?

  • A severe, acute attack of low back pain will cause pain that is felt at all times regardless of the position adopted or the movements being performed. It is made much worse by sitting or rising from sitting and by bending forward.
  • If the pain is also much worse on attempting to stand or walk, and if you are unable to straighten up fully, it may not be possible for you to function, and bed rest is the only alternative.Recent research tells us that bed rest is not the best option for the treatment of acute and severe back pain and should be given for no more than two days. 
  • Those involved in that particular study,however, will perhaps alter that view if they ever personally experience a severe bout of the problem.In my experience, there are many patients in severe pain who require longer than two days of bed rest before ambulation is possible. 
  • Nevertheless, early activity, exercise and movement is desirable for those forced to seek bed rest, and a determined effort to stand upright should be attempted at an opportune time at least once each day.

Avoid Squatting- Quadriceps Exercises- Lie straight, make a towel role and put it under the knee, press the keen against the role, hold it for 20 secs. Repeat 20 times twice a day. This will help relieve some pain. Core Strengthening Exercise- Straight Leg Raised With Toes Turned Outward, repeat 10 times, twice a day. Hams Stretching- lie straight, take the leg up, pull the feet towards yourself, with a elastic tube or normal belt. repeat 10 times, twice a day. Sports Taping- stretch the tape from both ends and apply on the affected area Contrast Fomentation (Hot and Cold).

Please do a cold fermentation water treatment immediately after you have run. You could slow down on your km for a week and then observe whether the pain is there or not. Next start on a few resisted exercises after a weeks time. Then you could build up your strength by taking good protein rich diet for 1 month. Most importantly taking good rest is also important in runners.
