My son who is 7 weeks old is getting lot of burps. Every time after feeding, we burp him and hold him for few min before putting him down. Then he wakes up in 10-15 mins with huge discomfort. When we lift him he again burps with spit up. Then he becomes very comfortable and will not sleep again. Sometimes he goes back to sleep and again in few min he wakes up with another burp. This has been happening since 4 days and becoz of this he is not sleeping well. So he gets fussy and cranky. He is breastfeed mostly and occasionally he takes the formula. We give him Similac Pro sensitive. What is causing his frequent burps and Spit ups. Please advice.

You need to take care of breastfeeding in a regular intervals to keep your baby away from unwanted trouble due to accumulation of gas. You need to monitor your dietary habits to keep your baby healthy to overcome this situation.

Hi, The normal weight of 1.5 years old child should be 10-12 Kg. It is very less. Inadequate food intake, Problems with digestion or absorption of food or absorption, or Increased metabolism, worms in the stomach, premature birth can be the cause of slow weight gain. Please discuss a slow rate of weight gain with a child specialist or a physician.

Thalassemia in Children - 4 Ways It Can Be Treatment!

Thalassemia in Children - 4 Ways It Can Be Treatment!

Thalassemia is a type of a disease, resulting in the abnormal production of hemoglobin in the blood. Hemoglobin stimulates oxygen circulation all over the body. Therefore, a dip in the hemoglobin count can lead to anemia, a disease inducing weakness as well as fatigue. Acute anemia can take a toll on the organs and ultimately cause death.

Severe thalassemia in children yields symptoms, such as dark urine, abdominal swelling, slow growth, jaundice, a pale appearance and deformed skull bones. Diarrhea, frequent fevers and eating disorders are also common.

Treatment:

  1. Blood transfusions: Regular blood transfusion is the only treatment needed for beta thalassemia aiming to keep sufficient Hb level to avoid long-term complications, though bone marrow transplant is radical cure for the disease.
  2. Iron chelation therapy: The hemoglobin in the red blood cells is rich in iron-protein that gets deposited in the blood with regular blood transfusion. This condition is known as iron overload as it damages heart, liver and various parts of the body. Iron chelation therapy is used to prevent this damage as it helps to remove the excess iron from the body.  Deferoxamine and Deferasirox are two such medicines used for this therapy.
  3. Folic acid supplements: Folic acid being a B vitamin produces healthy red blood cells and is therefore recommended as a substitute for the above procedures.
  4. Transplant of blood and marrow stem cell: A blood and a marrow (a substance within the cavities of bones where blood cells are produced) transplant replaces the faulty stem cells with healthy ones contributed by a donor.

Teething has nothing to do with any medical problem in a growing child. If your baby is alert active gaining appropriate weight and vomits occasionally that means ALL IS WELL. Mild cough should not be treated with any cough syrup unless it is severe. Please continue calcium and vitamin D3. Enjoy AC with proper cover up of child GET AGE APPROPRIATE VACCINE IN TIME. BEST WISHES.

Hi Try improving your nutrients to get enough milk. Try to add fish, garlic, drumstick more often as that helps. Inspite of all these, you still don’t get enough milk, then follow your child doctor as advised.
