Dear lybrate-user, It looks like your daughter has a mental disorder. If it is a recent behaviour, less than 1 year, her treatment may be completely useful. If it is more than 1 year, the treatment will bring about 80-90% change to her old behaviour. However she needs treatment by a psychiatrist as early as possible. She is qualified. I have been friends with this girl since October 2013. We got so close at that time and she even said that she doesn't want to loose me and would not make such things happen to loose me. That closeness or that bond between us ceased in May 2014. So We never kept in touch till the last week of November 3014. In between that I did call her up to wish her as it was her birthday. She sounded normal. But within that gap (May to November 2014) whenever I tried calling her or tried testing her she would never reply. So in the last week of November I called her with my friend's number because she wouldn't answer my call if I'd call hef with my number. So we spoke on the phone but that bond which was there back then is no longer there. So I tried my best talking to her in order for me to bring the old us. But that didn't really work out. So I told her that I'm coming over to her place to meet her because she's leaving soon for the winter vacations to which she agreed. We met. And when we met I feel like that old bond was still there but it's not upto that point. Since then we've always communicated n kept in touch till date. Her friends even asked me whether I'm in love with her or not so my reply to them was positive. They told me that she knows that I love her and she's happy that I didn't make any proposal yet because she feels like it's good and that wouldn't disturb our studies. Her friends even said that she's into me so why didn't I propose her? And right now I feel like that bond we had back then is pumping again. So to me I really want her to be a part of my life n spend my lifetime with her. But my problem is the proposal part. I don't know where/when/how to start moreover I don't want to loose her ever again. Please help.

There are things you want, there are things you do and there are things you get in life. There is hardly any relation between the first and the last. Letting someone know how you feel is usually a good idea. However, do not put a condition of getting what you want. The other person may not share your feelings. Things may not work out your way for various reasons. Or they may. But there is no guarantee. What you want to do is up to you. If you are unsure about your feelings, you can wait. Time will make things clearer to both of you. Feelings change in every relationship. Talking will help you get clarity and planning for the future.

Anxiety has a lot of physical manifestation. It is a way of your mind telling you that something is wrong. But this 'thing' that is wrong is not in your chest but in your mind. Don't focus your energy on the pain. Focus on the source of the pain. You need to take proper treatment to reduce anxiety. Rivotril helps but only for a short time. A course of a good medicine will help you for a long term. Visit a psychiatrist to get help. Identity the sources of stress in your life. See what you can change and what you cannot. Change the former. Learn to adjust with the latter. Counseling will also help you.

There is a difference between love and obsession. Caring, having affectionate feelings and feeling attracted to someone is good. But asking that person to become your only source of emotional fulfilment is frustrating to both the partners. Every relationship has a risk of not working out. You need to live with that risk. You partners love and devotion to you cannot by guaranteed by anyone, including her. We trust by accepting that even if it fails, we will be okay. If you feel unhappy and dissatisfied in the relationship you can walk out. You have the option. But remember that everyone has their own way of loving and expressing love. If you find yourself too distressed then get professional counseling.

Both habits are addictive and that will present other problems. Masturbation is not really bad; it is the addiction to it that is bad. Not even the number of years is a problem but the frequency and compulsiveness to do it is to be considered for its ill-effects. At your age you may feel it difficult and it can become addictive if you have alone time, if you obsess about it, and if you are not into relationships. The problem with addiction to this is that you may go on to prefer masturbation to heterosexual contact, even when you are married. That obviously would be an insult to your wife and will lead to a lot of conflict. Heterosexual contact is very wholesome and the physiology is made exactly for penile and vaginal contact. You will instead enjoy a poor replica of this and not know or care for the difference. The second thing that can happen with addiction is that it will become compulsive and will have no boundaries or limits, since it can be done all by yourself, whenever, wherever, and however too. The big problem a lot of children get into is the guilt around this. A useful way to discharge the energy is to get into contact games, or exercises, or even hobbies to channelize it. Also you should not spend too much time alone, and you need to keep your mind occupied with other interesting things and a lot of socializing. Even if you are not interested in marriage, for whatever reasons, it will help you to get into a friendship with a girl and enjoy the relationship where there will be a lot of excitement when you fall in love. Right now your hormones may be very active and your physiological apparatus is primed and ready for sexual stimulation. But because of your age and even otherwise it is important to develop good control and not feed into your impulses. Keeping yourself occupied and living a healthy social life are the keys to manage your sexual drives.

Marriage is a very tricky relationship. On one hand, you are happy to have found that one person you want to spend the rest of your life with and on the other, you are overwhelmed with the number of people that are going to be a part of your new family. While this is true for both people in the marriage, a lot would depend on the final living situation. It is a different experience if the couple is going to be staying in close proximity to their families as compared to when all the family members are living together under the same roof.

There are mixed feelings of anxiety and curiosity, especially if it is an arranged marriage, where the number of interactions with your partner itself are limited. With the changing scenario in relationships, there are some families (extended family) who you end up meeting only during family occasions.

Also, the relationship dynamics with the in-laws changes for the couple. Let us look deeper into how different it is for the everyone and how to manage them.

In most situations in Indian marriages, the woman moves into her husband’s place, thereby, there is an increase in the number of people she interacts with. If it is a love marriage, the chance of meeting the immediate family members are always high. However, in more formal set-ups, the woman would have hardly interacted with her spouse’s family members. In these cases, understanding their expectations and living up to them is a big challenge. In these cases, it is essential for the members of the family to effectively communicate with each other and discuss the issues at hand. This helps in setting and aligning expectations.

  • With changing lifestyle trends, the expectations have also changed, both for the woman and her new family. It is therefore very essential to understand the little things that form a part of a daily routine.
  • It is also very important to set expectations on special occasions like festivals and family functions, as the expectations are high and the chance of  disappointment is also higher.
  • For the man, again, it depends on how the set-up is after the marriage. If the families know each other, the interaction is much smoother or else, it takes some time for all the people  involved to get to know each other.

All said and done, both have to be mentally prepared to embrace the new members that come with the relationship. Talking to a common friend or even acounsellor can help, if required. The key is to set and manage expectations so that disappointments are avoided.

I feel body ache daily when I wake up in the mornings and don't feel freshen up even after enough sleep. Basically in back shoulders and upper hands. And couldn't get up from bed once I am awake due to the pain, feel lazy. body ache remains at least 2-4 hours after waking up and sometimes entire day. Hi lybrate-user, It does not sound like you are suffering from depression. However, it is important that you realize the root cause of why you are feeling so low. You are looking at yourself from the eyes of your boyfriend, others. Your life is not just about being someone's girlfriend. There is a whole new person existing inside you apart from your relationship which you need to discover. I suggest you go for regular Counseling to share your life freely and learn to develop your confidence and strengths. Take care.

Dear user. I can understand. Tobacco is addictive. Cigarette also contains 4000+ carcinogenic chemicals other than nicotine. Smoking can affect your mouth, throat, lungs, heart, stomach and brain in many ways. Cancer is one among the potential diseases smoking can cause. The best method is to leave it and continue with your will power. There are other methods like Nicotine Replacement therapy and pharmacotherapy combined. Nicotine chewing gums too help as an alternative for cigarettes. But still you will need will power. You may consult a physician or deaddiction therapist or a rehabilitation facility for further advice. You can also opt for online deaddiction therapy. Take care.

To improve your memory :- Give your brain a workout by solving puzzles. Don't skip the physical exercise. Get your 7 hours of sleep. Make time for friends. Keep stress in check by yoga and meditation. Have a laugh. Eat a brain-boosting diet like Almonds, fruits and high protein diet. Identify and treat health problems. Take practical steps to support learning and memory. Avoid multitasking.

Voice Disorders - Signs You Are Suffering From It!

Voice results from the air that comes out of the lungs and passes through the vocal cords. The latter is also known as the voice box. Speech results from the vibration of the chords. Voice disorder might occur for various reasons such as tone, pitch, and volume of the if the voice. The roots of all problems boil down to the malfunctioning of the cords.

Voice disorder examples:

  1. Laryngitis: Laryngitis results from the swelling of the vocal cords. It can lead to a temporary halt of voice or a voice with hoarseness. It often occurs due to a viral attack in the respiratory tract. It can last from a few days to a few weeks. The treatment suggested for cases like these include resting the voice and intake of a lot of fluids. Some common causes that are responsible for laryngitis are GERD, chronic cough, and asthma.
  2. Vocal cord paralysis: Paralysis of the vocal cord can be temporary or permanent. The possible cause of this scenario can be from viral infection, cancer, surgical injury to the nerve etc. In the case of a paralysis of the vocal cord, a person might find difficulty in breathing, can result in weak voice etc. While this condition improves for many people with voice therapy and surgery, for some they permanently lose their ability to speak.
  3. Spasmodic dysphonia: The vocal cord spasm due to a problem with the nerve. This condition can lead to a quivery, hoarse, groaning or jerky voice. In this condition, a person might find it easy to speak at times and have difficulty in speaking later. Botulinum toxin and speech therapy help to improve this condition.

Possible causes of voice disorders:

  1. Growth: Extra tissue formation on the vocal cords might stop the vocal cords to work properly leading to voice disorders. The growth can be treated with injection, medicine or surgery.
  2. Swelling and inflammation: Exposure to chemicals, vocal and alcohol abuse, surgery-related complications can lead to inflammation or swelling of the vocal cords resulting in voice-related problems.
  3. Hormone: Disorder of the male, female and thyroid hormone can lead to voice related disorders affecting speech.

Symptoms of voice disorders:

  1. The harshness of the voice
  2. Voice is breathy, weak and whispery
  3. The voice sounds like choppy or strained
  4. A quivering sound while speaking
  5. The voice sounds harsh or rough while speaking

Diagnosis of Voice related disorders:
Voice related disorders can be detected through a process known as Laryngoscopy. This helps a doctor to view the throat region and find out the possible culprit that may be causing the problem. Some other popular methods are stroboscopy, EMG and imaging tests such as MRI and X-Ray of the throat. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a speech-therapist.
