Festive Skin Care - Let Your Skin Do The Talking This Festive Season!

Festive season is a time of fun, beauty and indulgence. There is always an excitement when Diwali is around the corner. It is all about fun, mingling with your family and friends, and eating sweets and snacks. But during this mood of elation and celebration, one forgets that what goes inside also shows up externally. There are the endless parties for which you would dress up and style. So there will be the blow drying, ironing, styling, make-up, late nights, and to top it all, the alcohol and cigarettes. This, coupled with the excess smoke and pollution affects the skin and hair to a large extent. 

Here are few tips on how can you keep your skin glowing and hair healthy during the festive season. To start with, let me explain what damages your skin and hair and how.

  1. SugarSugar suppresses the activity of our white blood cells and thus makes us more susceptible to infections. It also worsens allergies and causes damage because of the breaking down of good proteins, leading to the formation of Advanced Glycation End-products (AGE). AGE makes the proteins in the collagen and hair stiff and hard; thus speeding up the process of skin ageing and making the hair brittle. One of the main reasons for wrinkles, deep lines, and sagging skin is AGE. So gorging high sugar foods during festivals can lead to fine lines and excessive dryness. So please be mindful of what you are eating during this time.
  2. Smoke – Smoke and pollution damage hair and skin. It makes the skin dry and scalp irritated or even itchy. Too much exposure can lead to boils/ folliculitis, skin rash, and acne exacerbation. To prevent this, you should wash your hair and body thoroughly the day after the festival to counteract the damage caused by smoke and ash.
  3. Excessive make-up and styling – You need to dress up and look pretty on festival days. This means excessive make-up and hair styling products, blow drying, and ironing. Not all this is harmful, but what worsens the situation is when you ignore or forget to remove them all off after the party is over. Always remember to follow your night-time skincare regime and cleanse your hair of all the styling products.
  4. Alcohol and cigarettes – These worsen the condition of your hair and skin. Alcohol makes the skin flushed and dehydrated with broken capillaries. And cigarettes compromise the blood supply to your skin. So cut down on cigarettes and alcohol as much as possible.

Do’s and Don’ts

  • Be on a healthy diet always, especially a month before the festivals start.
  • Avoid too many sweets.
  • Drink plenty of fluids like water, coconut water, and buttermilk.
  • Try to cut down on your alcohol intake and cigarettes.
  • Apply an anti-oxidant cream which contains vitamin A, C, E or Q10 during the day, underneath your sunscreen.
  • Remove every trace of make-up and apply a good nourishing night cream.
  • Start oiling your hair with light oils like the ones which are coconut-based.
  • Do not use mousse on hair. If you do, then wash it off at night or the next morning.
  • Blow drying with low heat is better than ironing. Ironing can lead to hair breakage.
  • Avoid harsh surface chemical treatments during the Diwali month – be it for skin or hair.
  • Include some cardio exercises in your daily routine.

So, follow these simple steps to look gorgeous and feel gorgeous during this festive season!

I hav UTI infection from past 7 days. Initially der Wer small pimples near vagina n at the very low part of vagina der was little swelling. I applied ointment n got to normal again after 2 days thr Z severe burning. Am able to pass the urine but it burns so bad Wen cloth touches d skin. N d itching n burning Z nt at d side but on vaginal folded skin parts. I consulted Dr. She gav me wincit 10 tablet n tenovate M ointment. N she also gav AF kit which I will b taken tmrw. After many tests doctor diagnosed functional dyspepsia and he also told that this disease has no cure and he prescribed medicines 1-colospa 135 2- dimol 40 but after taking those medicine my stool becomes hard and as I have a tendency of anal fissures or anal ulcers occurring if my stool get little hard that occurs after passing dry stool and I stop taking medicine but my problem is going on. My symptoms are- frequent air belching comes both empty stomach and full stomach and after drinking water belching must. 10-15 times flatulence pass in a day. Little burning and hot sensation continue for all time after first meal of the day though endoscopy report shows nothing found. So how I can live in this situation? I am very very anxious both of my diseases 1- functional dyspepsia and if stool becomes little dry then fissures or anal ulcers occurring tendency.

Weight gain is a slow process it take time. And it need well planned balanced diet along with physical activity and proper rest. You need well plan diet suited to your needs. Mean while here are few tips for you- Start eating small frequent energy dense meals instead of 3 large meal. Small meals are easy to digest and keep digestive system running. You can eat small portion of healthy food in difference of 2-3 hours have shakes of fruits with added nuts drink atleast 8-10 glasses of water. Eat all seasonal fruits and vegetables. Manage stress Quit smoking or drinking if any do some moderate intensity exercises for 30 minutes daily. This is cervical pain (neck pain) and that's the reason the pain radiates until the shoulder blades. If you keep ice that would help to reduce the pain and feel relaxed and comfortable. You shall also do hot water fermentation that would improve the blood circulation to the painful area and thereby the pain would be reduced. You shall use cervical collar which would help you to reduce the radiating pain and also that would improve the cervical angle and improve the anatomical posture. Inspite of taking muscle gaining powder or capsules you can make your body (muscle gain) by regulating your diet naturally. Eat foods that are rich in calories like pulses, cereals, meat, bread, rice, dry fruits, and nuts. U can also follow by adding vegetables like French beans, broccoli, Chinese cabbage, carrots, lettuce, spinach, asparagus, pumpkins, and eggplants to your diet. Add a healthy portion of red meat to your diet too if you are non vegetarian. But keep in mind not to overdo it. The aim is to add weight, not cholesterol! You can even add olive oil in generous quantities to your salads. Another way to add calories to your diet is by increasing the consumption of dairy products. Donot cut back on the fat content in your milk. Do not ask for low-fat curd, paneer, cheese, at the store. Make sure you consume a full calorie dairy product. DIET CHART TO GAIN WEIGHT - Breakfast: • One, big glass of orange juice or banana shake • A bowl of oatmeal to which dried nuts like almonds, walnuts and raisins are added—using skimmed or low-fat milk and some sugar • 2-3 whole eggs, scrambled or boiled if non- vegetarian • 2-3 slices of multi-grain bread coated with a bit of butter Pre-Lunch/Mid-day Snack: A bowl of yogurt made from low-fat milk Or A few granola bars that are fortified with raisins and sesame seeds Or Whole fruits like apples or chiku or mango Lunch: • At least one form of animal meat like chicken or meat, i.e. One to two servings.(if non- vegetarian) • 4-5 rotis made from whole wheat or multi-grain flour, smeared slightly with ghee. • A big bowl of dal • A cup full of boiled rice • If eating meats is a problem, supplement it with cottage cheese made from tofu or low-fat milk Early Evening Snack: The better choice is a glass of low-fat milk to which an energy-inducing mix has been added. You can choose from a variety of malted mixtures. Try to add more of the malted mix rather than using synthetic sugar. You can use a few high-fiber biscuits or cookies to dip and munch upon. Dinner Options for Gaining Weight Dinner needs some planning since you need to end your day on a calorie high. You should combine at least one type of green vegetable along with a dal or a serving of chicken or fish with some gravy. It is better to have more of rice for dinner rather than rotis from the perspective of gaining weight. Ensure you ask the person cooking meals to use lentils with higher calorie content. This includes black grams and kidney beans. Options for Post-Dinner Snack • A few bites of dark chocolate with high cocoa content • A smoothie of fruits and yogurt • Fruits like strawberries, apples, mangoes or grapes I hope the above diet chart will help you.
