Your Ojas is your protection and health shield

Immunity in Ayurveda is linked to good digestion, a balanced endocrine system, proper functioning of the liver and a strong agni or metabolism. It's also strongly connected to a subtle essence known as ojas, which means vigor. According to Ayurveda, the strength of your ojas has a bearing on the influences and factors (both external and internal), which cause you to suffer from any health problem. By protecting your ojas, you boost your body's immune system and protect you from every external or internal harms.

There are times when the protection of this subtle essence becomes vital and these are:

- Periods of recuperation
- Stressful situations
- Period between seasons
- Cold and flu period
- Times of rejuvenation
- Drastic change in your routine
- Major life changes like having a baby or divorce

How to go about protecting your ojas and boosting your immunity levels?

1. When it comes to boosting your immunity and fortifying your ojas through diet, garlic is a very useful food. Dear user pushups and crunches are basically toning up the body and are a bit less effective for weight. Focussing on weight you can go for walk, jogging,running etc.

You need to take high fiber low fat diet. Drink lot of water everyday. Take small and frequent meals at regular intervals of 2-3 hrs. Avoid outside food completely. Do crunches and pushups daily to reduce belly fat. Ask me directly for customized diet plan for you.

Diet & Lifestyle Advice Avoid Pitta-aggravating foods like spicy, heavy, and oily foods, as well as tea and coffee. Avoid refined foods, refined sugar, junk food, and alcoholic and carbonated drinks. Increase intake of fresh fruits, green leafy vegetables, and vegetable juice prepared from lettuce, carrot, capsicum, and alfalfa. Avoid using chemical products on the hair. Try herbal oils and shampoos instead. Home Remedies Mix powdered Indian gooseberry (amla) and sesame seeds in equal amounts. Take 1 teaspoon twice a day with water. I am 22 (female). Two years ago, I found drops of blood after urinating or in my stool. Then it stopped suddenly. Recently, the same thing happened again. The stool does not change its colour, bt only blood comes as drops when the muscles near the anus squeeze. Please suggest any medication which can be helpful? Before starting any medicine we should first see the reports and also do some further tests like blood sugar level. How to reduce cholesterol level best thing is to do is control your diet and eat low fatty food. Avoid oily and fried food. Eat green leafy vegetables and fruits daily.

Hello Yes of course you are underweight. It’s not only healthy meals that matters But it depends also on the amount of calories you intake per day .also how much is your energy expenditure per day that also has to be monitored. As keeping all the parameters in mind a diet plan is made which includes proper calories as per your energy expenditure along with the carbohydrates proteins n fats proportions being distributed in a way that leads to weight gain. Eat more frequently. When you're underweight, you may feel full faster. Choose nutrient-rich foods. Concentrate on smoothies and shakes. Don't drink water before meals. This can fill your stomach and make it harder to get in enough calories. Good fats are necessary for muscle growth and production of hormones like testosterone. This is essential for the growth and strength of muscles. In some cases, just the diet and exercise may not bring results as quickly as you expect. Another way to go about this is by including some additional supplements in your diet. Have six meals a day – three big meals and three small. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner should be heavy and calorie-rich. A heavy dinner adds weight to your body as your metabolism is not as active when you sleep as compared to when you are awake. Also concentrate on high protein diet.

Why is Sleep so Important to Your Physical and Mental Health?

Sleep is the normal physiological process of our body which is as important as respiration and digestion. Sleep is vital for maintaining our physical and mental health. Normal adults require 8 hours of sleep every day, whereas it 14 to 15 hours of sleep is recommended for for infants and toddlers.

What are the different stages of Sleep

Every human has a natural circadian clock in their body, which is responsible for maintaining our sleep - wake homeostasis. The different stages of sleep include REM and NREM that is rapid eye movement sleep and non rapid eye movement sleep respectively. REM is the deep sleep stage in which it is very difficult to wake up the person as this stage includes the sensory inhibition and all voluntary muscles along with almost all interactions with the surroundings are inhibited. Therefore, a person’s physical stress and tiredness also gets relieved during this stage of sleep. NREM sleep is the stage between REM and awakening and here the person may have sensory connection with his or her surroundings, but may not respond.

Sleep and its benefits
Sleep and stress have a very strong connection with each other. The best way to relieve stress and any other mental disturbance is sleep. It is essential to have knowledge about sleep psychiatry for almost all physicians as they face many sleep deprived patients in their day to day practice.

  1. Sleep is not only responsible for relieving mental stress and depression, but has other benefits as well
  2. Sleep is also essential for the normal physiological growth in early infancy and it is vital for development of normal alertness, attention and knowledge
  3. It also relaxes our voluntary muscles and thereby, relieves us from physical stress
  4. Sleep disturbance may also aggravate diseases in our body. Sleep is also the state of recovery and healing.

Sleep psychiatry also insist on meditation and ensures that people have normal pattern of sleep, in order to maintain the mental health of the person in a normal state.
