The pain is most likely muscle sprain and does not show up on X rays. Try doing stretches for hamstrings and Quadriceps and gentle strengthening exercises. Also cold packs can help reduce pain. If it still persists go for Physiotherapy sessions. Good luck.

Your weight will grow gradually with age. No need to become desperate now itself. Gym will help you to grow strong and build some muscles after 1-2 years of continuous workouts. Take a good diet. Enjoy your gym, without expecting any instant results. Be confident of yourself, that's most important.

You must go and meet with a counselor immediately and if that person advises that you meet with a doctor (psychiatrist) you must do so and cooperate to your utmost. Please visit these professionals along with your parents. In the meantime please do the following sincerely because you could resolve the problem better with good cooperation: Have a good night’s sleep, have a good breakfast of more proteins, meditate often, remain free of stress, eat a lot of fiber, nuts, avocado, exercise regularly, eat dark chocolate, do Yoga meditation exercises, etc. I suggest you do the opposite of what this depression makes you feel like doing (actually, not doing): you will need to fight this condition. You must become active; stay upright during the daylight time; meet people; never sleep during the day, wake up by 6 am every day, play some active games, especially contact games, do physical exercises, talk to people and join some social clubs, attend Yoga classes etc. Watch sitcoms on TV or comedies and cheer yourself up. Go for excursions in groups, for outings, camps, conferences, and religious conventions. Get a pet dog and spend time training it, exercising it and relating to it. Expose yourself to some sunlight every day, at least, 30 minutes but not in the scorching heat. Whatever happens, please incorporate these three important adaptations in your life: always be responsible, be respectful, and be functional. If you did these three, lots of things will go well in life. Please pray and have faith in God to alleviate your sufferings. Don’t wait for others to help. Use your own motivation, which might be at its lowest, but persevere and win this battle. Above all to be really happy, you need to live in love and for love. Learn all about emotions and how to handle them and that will get you out of the depression rather easily and quickly. A counselor is there only to facilitate you, all the hard word must come from you, and your cooperation with that person is very critical for your success. Be positive every day and learn to be contented with what you have. Do some left brain exercises: it is the happy brain. Here are a few suggestions: shut your left nostril and breathe, move your eyes from right to left and vice versa for at least half a minute at a time, and do calisthenic exercises with some form of counting, regularly. Whatever happens please cooperate with the therapy and do not discontinue until the condition is completely resolved.

Stop rubbing any oil on that area. You can apply ice. Meet a physiotherapist nearby you. You will definitely get relief after few sessions of physiotherapy. Use that band only when you are riding your bike and avoid lifting weight with your affected hand.

Why supporter is needed for athletes, when I run a little pain is experienced at my genetically area.
Dear Lybrateuser, - Supporter is needed for athletes as the exercise & weight training routine can strain the abdominal & pelvic structures, also will help in preventing hernia - do inguinal (groin) stretching exercises which can help reduce pain, also do warm up by stretching for 5-10 min before the run or any other activity.

I am suffering from depression what can I do.
I do not know that what kind of treatment I want to do.
At your age this claim is serious. If you have depression then there are some major ramifications to take into account. I believe there may be some genetic predisposition or there has been some childhood issue, related to anger, that needs urgent attention. You must go and meet with a counselor immediately and if that person advises that you meet with a doctor you must do so and cooperate to your utmost. I have checked 2 times with a physician in last 1 month. Found out my BP on higher side 88-135. I exercise regularly. I also play football at competitive level. What can be the reasons of this and how to get it to normal. Also I do have slight head aches sometimes in the morning. And some breathing problem like in cold.

BP of 135/88 is still ok, what you need is salt reduction in your diet and exercise, since you r a sportsman you must be exercising regularly so now reduce the salt intake by reducing the intake of pickels, papads, cheese, butter, chips and wafers and all other foods that have high salt content. Also go for regular BP checkup’s.

My friend got OCD. Often cleans hands at regular intervals. Thinks all materials around us is dirty. Takes mom 2 hours for bath. Repeatedly washing clothes even for small dirts.

Reparenting Technique, BA, BEd
Psychologist, Bangalore
I don’t think that he just thinks about that, he must be obsessing a lot if he has OCD. This tendency is based on unnatural fear and will eventually lead to OCD, if it hasn’t already. There must have been some childhood experience around fear that has not been resolved and it is coming up now in this form. He must meet with a counselor along with his parents and find out where this fear originated and what the occasion was. The obsession is about hygiene and perhaps infection that stimulates this kind of reaction. He will need to get a reality check with a medical person to dispel these fears and accept that his immune system is able to fight minor infections rather efficiently. Of course he must be able to trust that source and accept it as a fact: this may take time but is a very important exercise in his therapy. He may also learn that certain amount of hygiene is essential but not extreme and any excessive forms are to be considered as OCD. They will finally cripple him if it reaches chronic states of OCD. If it has already reached difficult proportions, you may need to go on medication and the counselor will advise you so.

You need to maintain a Food Diary and write down every bit of food and liquids that you take. Do this for one month. If you can't write in diary you can use 'Myfitnesspal' app. Once you do this you will realise that you are consuming too much excess calories. It is better you visit a dietitian to work on a proper plan. But please avoid all sorts of gimmick gadgets / supplements / medicines etc. Just a simple diet of 2 rotis - salads - fruits can ensure better health. Make up your mind. Find a guide to help you. Don't feel sorry for yourself. Find your strength and start moving forward, step by step.

Thyroid Problems And Its Homeopathic Treatments!

It is extremely remarkable to note how homeopathic treatments have gained immense acceptance and recognition in the field of modern-day treatment procedures, offering the most effective and safe medication options. A number of thyroid problems can, in fact, be alleviated with the help of homeopathic remedies, also saving you the trouble of encountering unwanted and unforeseen side effects of the normal prescription drugs. The most common problems pertaining to the thyroid gland are possibly hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism. Both the conditions can be cured with utmost efficacy when the right drugs are prescribed.

Hypothyroidism And Homeopathy

Hypothyroidism is the medical condition wherein the thyroid gland underperforms and produces insufficient amount of hormones required for the normal functioning of the body. The most effective homeopathic remedies for hypothyroidism are:

  1. Nux Vomica: This remedy is usually recommended to those patients who suffer from extreme temperament and ones who feel chilly often without any particular reason. Obstinate constipation in the patients is also curbed by this medicine. Women with prolonged periods are also prescribed Nux Vomica to decrease the incidence of period related problems.
  2. Lycopodium Clavatum: Patients of hypothyroidism who complain of gastric troubles are the ones who usually opt for Lycopodium Clavatum. Excessive hair fall as a result of hypothyroidism can also be cured with it.
  3. Calcera Carbonica: It is usually ranked as the best medicine for treating hypothyroidism, especially in patients who suffer from cold feet, extreme fatigue, and bowel problems.

Hyperthyroidism And Homeopathy

A condition wherein the thyroid gland tends to be overactive and produces more than the requisite level of hormones is usually referred to as a classic case of hyperthyroidism. Homeopathic treatments for this abnormality aim at treating the root causes to achieve best results:

  1. Lachesis Mutus: Hyperthyroidism patients who persistently complain of rising body heat are prescribed this. It also lessens the problems of fatigue and queasiness.
  2. Iodium: Patients who lose their weight quickly despite maintaining a healthy diet are prescribed doses of Iodium. Anxiousness and fatigue are also cured along with other problems.
  3. Conium Maculatum: Patients who suffer from acute depression and refuse to participate in day-to-day activities are generally given this. Trembling and profuse perspiration are treated effectively with the help of Conium Maculatum.

How To Manage Stitches Post-Surgery?

FIAGES, FMAS, MS - General Surgery, MBBS
General Surgeon, Bangalore
How To Manage Stitches Post-Surgery?

Any surgery that requires an incision will involve sutures or staples as the last step of the procedure. This helps close the incision and keep out infections. Taking care of your stitches can help limit scarring and discomfort and speed up the healing process. Here are a few things to keep in mind.

  1. Keep it clean and dry: For the first few days, use a washed wet cloth to clean the incision site. After a few days, you may start washing the area with soap and water unless advised else wise by your doctor. Ensure that you dry the skin thoroughly after washing it. Avoid baths that involve soaking the area in water. Also, avoid swimming. Do not use any powders, lotions, creams, deodorants etc on the wound site.
  2. Look out for signs of infections: Avoid activities that may involve exposing your wound to dirty water, chemicals, dust etc. This increases your risk of infections. Also look out for signs f infections such as redness, swelling, pus or bleeding, fever or increased pain from the wound. In case you notice such signs, consult your doctor at the earliest.
  3. Do not scratch: As it heals, your skin is likely to turn itchy. However, refrain from scratching so as to reduce chances of infections. Do not try and pull away from the scab but let it fall off on its own. This will also help limit scarring.
  4. Limit contact: Avoid wearing tight clothes or anything that sticks to the skin while your wound is healing. Instead have plenty of loose, comfortable clothes easily accessible. Also, do not take part in close contact sports such as football etc until the stitches have healed completely.
  5. Change your dressing regularly: A dressing should be changed as soon as it gets wet or soaked with blood or other body fluids. Wear clean medical gloves while changing a dressing. When putting on a new dressing do not touch the inside of the dressing or apply any creams on the stitches unless advised so by your doctor. In the case of removable stitches, the doctor will usually remove the stitches after a few days. DO not attempt to pull the stitches out on your own.
  6. Avoid exposing the wound to sunlight: New skin that forms as the incision heals is very sensitive to sunlight and gets sunburnt very easily. Limiting your exposure to sunlight can help reduce the effects of scarring.

Feeling Angry - 12 Doctor Recommended Tips!

MBBS, MD - Psychiatry
Psychiatrist, Delhi
Feeling Angry - 12 Doctor Recommended Tips!

Anger is good. It protects you. But intense, uncontrolled anger may destroy valuable relationships. Anger is a result of anxiety and fear. When we assume that our expectations will not be met, we become anxious. When we feel unsure about our own capabilities we become anxious. This anxiety creates fear. Anxiety comes from our beliefs. All beliefs can be modified.

Anger has lots of energy. Avoid arguments/confrontations when you are very angry. When you are very angry you are likely to use rough language which may damage your relations and you are likely to behave impulsively. All this you might regret later on. Following are a few techniques which will help you to manage your anger in difficult situations :

  1. Sit down and have a glass of water, slowly. This will help you to calm down a little.
  2. Avoid or go away from that room or situation. Tell the people concerned, that you are angry and would like to discuss it some other time.
  3. Deep breathing exercises help a lot. Close your eyes, take 10 deep breaths, turn your attention towards your body. See what is happening to your body. Tell your body muscles to relax. If your heart is beating fast, if you are breathing fast, continue deep breathing, till it normalises.
  4. Now understand what is making you angry. Understand your own anxiety and fear related to the issue.
  5. Let the other person know how you are “feeling”. Start your statements, “I feel hurt/insulted/let down/neglected etc. when you do this”, instead of saying “You hurt/neglect me”. When you express your feeling in this manner, the other person does not feel blamed, which makes the other person more receptive.
  6. Focus on the current issue, don’t bring in past situations.
  7. Tell the other person, what you want or expect, instead of telling what you do not want. E.G. Instead of saying “I don’t want you to go out now”, say “I would like you to stay at home today”.
  8. Listen carefully what the other person wants to tell you. Give others a chance to voice their opinions.
  9. Make an eye contact and be firm but polite while communicating your point of view.
  10. Understand everyone’s responsibility in the situation. Try to see, what is your share in the problematic situation? Work on that.
  11. Understand what change you want.
  12. Have realistic expectations from others and also from yourself.
