Hair Loss - How Does PRP Therapy Help?

PRP is a non-surgical therapeutic hair restoration option. It is suitable for both men and women. It is a state-of-the-art, totally natural, alternative medical procedure used for the treatment of hair loss or hair thinning. It is an injectable treatment which uses the patient’s own blood.

PRP has been in use in the medical field for two decades, and offers some promising potential for stimulating hair growth. However, no definitive studies yet exist that confirms its efficacy.

Advantages of PRP Therapy:

PRP can be helpful in:

  1. Slowing the rate of hair loss
  2. Regrowing thinning hair to be thicker and full
  3. Boosting the health and condition of the scalp
  4. Stimulating collagen levels
  5. Preparing the scalp for hair transplantation & post hair transplantation

PRP can also assist in the treatment of skin and scalp conditions such as:

  1. Dry, itchy and inflamed scalp
  2. Genetic hair loss
  3. Alopecia areata
  4. Telogen effluvium (commonly caused by stress)

 How PRP Works?

The scalp is cleansed and numbing cream applied. While the scalp is prepared, a small amount of blood is drawn from the patient. This blood is then centrifuged to produce the Platelet Rich Plasma. The PRP component is taken from the blood and injected or infused into the scalp or areas of hair loss. Patients are able to resume normal activities after this procedure.

PRP harnesses the growth factors carried in the blood supply and then delivers a concentrated dose back to the affected scalp and hair follicles. The growth factors in the platelets stimulate the follicles to grow hair. The hair follicles in the resting phase (telogen) may be pushed into growth, and this will appear as new hair growth.

Who is a candidate for PRP?

Men or women who have early stages male or female pattern baldness are suitable candidates for PRP.  It is also suitable for men or women who are currently using hair loss medications; or those who are experiencing or expect to experience post-partum hair loss. It is also suitable for those who have had or plan to have hair transplant surgery

However, you are not a candidate for PRP if you:

  1. Have medical conditions such as chronic liver disease, skin diseases or cancermetabolic and systemic disorders
  2. Have undergone anti-coagulation therapy
  3. If you have any type of platelet dysfunction syndromes

Premature Skin Aging - 4 Really Simple Ways To Prevent It!

Premature Skin Aging - 4 Really Simple Ways To Prevent It!

Aging of the skin is a natural process that affects all aging individuals. It manifests itself in the form of skin wrinkling, sagging, discoloration and other visible effects. Such changes become more apparent as soon as one reaches late thirties or early forties but early onsets are now very common too, which can be caused by a number of factors.

Damage due to sun exposure is the primary cause of skin aging. It especially affects those who have lighter or fairer skin as the low melanin content in their skin makes it more prone to damage and aging.

Although skin aging cannot be entirely stopped or reversed, the process can be slowed down to prevent its early onset.

There are many ways of doing so through some simple lifestyle modifications such as the following:

  1. Avoid sun exposure : This is the most basic way of reducing the rate of skin aging and slowing down the process. While going out in the day cannot always be avoided, it is important to keep the skin covered with clothing, hats and sunglasses.
  2. Always wear sunscreen : This provides protection from the harmful rays of the sun (known as UVA and UVB). Making a habit of constantly applying sunscreen on all exposed parts of skin plays an important role in preventing skin aging. It is also necessary to use the right products, which should have an SPF rating or 30 or more.
  3. Eat healthy: Having a nutritious balanced diet can make a tremendous positive impact on your skin. Consumption of food items that are rich in vitamins, minerals and other nutrients is essential. It is also important to drink lots of water and fluids to stay hydrated. Junk food and sugary drinks should be avoided as it negatively affects skin health.
  4. Exercise regularly: Keeping fit through regular workouts and exercise improves the circulation of blood in the body and consequently, the supply of blood and oxygen to the skin. This keeps the skin healthy and young and prevents early onset of wrinkling and aging.

There are several other ways of preventing skin aging such as not smoking, avoiding the use of too many products and cosmetics, getting enough sleep, and always keeping skin cleansed and moisturized. Following these simple ways can effectively make your skin look younger and slow down the aging process.

Hi, I am 36 year old male. I take corticosteroid for eczema overdose for 3 month by mistake. And now I feel weakness, dizziness what can I do now?

BHMS & MD, MCAH
Homeopath, Vijayawada
Dear lybrate-user, corticosteroids, often called just steroids, are anti-inflammatory drugs. Most are synthetic forms of cortisone, a hormone naturally made in your adrenal glands. The best way to avoid overdose is to only take the medication according to your physician’s guidelines and report any alarming side effects or concerns that you have. Don't stop taking corticosteroid all of once, we have to tapper the dose. If you are experiencing only weakness and dizziness after taking overdose of corticosteroids, then boost your energy levels - start exercising, drink plenty of water and change to healthy diet and life style. As steroids are known to produce affects of many possible systems of body, based on the corticosteroid you are using, I suggest you to take an appointment for consultation, so that I can get the details of the case in depth and can rule out the exact changes or side affects and can guide you accordingly. With constitutional homeopathic treatment, we can treat not only affects of corticosteroids, but can address permanent cure to eczema as well.
