I am 23 years male and my ears are producing too much wax. I don't know how to clean it properly. My questions are 1. Can I clean it daily? 2. Using ear buds to clean is recommendable or not? 3. How to clean ears routinely and properly?

I am 23 years male and my ears are producing too much wax. I don't know how to clean it properly. My questions are 1....
Hello lybrate-user wax production in ear is a normal phenomenon and ear has physiological mechanisms by which the wax comes out automatically. However in some ears whose canal are narrow or the wax produced is excessive, it accumulates and causes impaction and hearing loss, pain and other symptoms. In such cases one must consult an otolaryngologist (ent specialist) who can remove the wax using a probe or endoscope as an office procedure. Self instrumentation with any ear bud is not recommended for the following reasons. 1. When you use an ear bud you are pushing the wax further inside. When an ent specialist removes wax using a probe he puts the probe behind the wax and pulls it outside. 2. You cannot see how deep you are poking with the ear bud, one of the commonest complications of self instrumentation is ear drum rupture or perforation. Perforated ear drums have a separate line of management. However you may use a wax desolving ear drops every few weeks after discussing with your doctor to make the formed wax more soluble and it can come off easier. Hope to find you in good health soon.

I got a my nose banged by a head n its paining alot the bone is swollen a bit. How to get rid of the pain.

MBBS, Diploma in Otorhinolaryngology (DLO), DNB (ENT)
ENT Specialist, Delhi
Hello If there is pain and swelling you better consult an ent surgeon to see if there is any fracture or displacement of the underlying nasal bones. If so, it's better to correct early. After a couple of days, fibrosis sets in and then it cannot be corrected. Thence correction can be done only after 3 or 4 months by an operation called rhinoplasty. To alleviate pain till you visit the doc, I suggest you may take paracetamol tablets. To reduce the swelling trypsin-chymotrypsin tablets are very effective. If pain doesn't come down you may try stronger nsaids like diclofenac coupled with antacid drug. For further help please contact us. Hope its nothing serious and you get relieved soon.

I am 21 years old and I have nose bleeding problem for 3 years. What should I do?

MBBS, Diploma in Otorhinolaryngology (DLO), DNB (ENT)
ENT Specialist, Delhi
Hello welcome to lybrate:) bleeding from nose can be due to a variety of reasons. Reasons can range from 1. Local causes (in the nose) a. Infection b. Injury c. Tumor a nasal endoscopy can reveal any local causes which caused the bleeding. 2. General causes a. Bleeding disorders b. Liver or kidney problems each cause has plenty of sub-causes. Special investigations are available to find out the exact cause. In the event of bleeding try these measures (they are just suggestions to help you) 1. Pinch the nose for 5 min and let her breath through her mouth 2. Put some nasal decongestant drops into nose and pinch for sometime like said above 3. Keep head in an elevated position 4. In worst case when the bleeding doesn't stop take her to an ent doctor.
