Scoliosis is a condition where the individual has a curved spine. As a result of this lateral curvature in the spine, one could have posture issues. HOW IS SCOLIOSIS DIAGNOSED?
Diagnosis of Scoliosis may be done by a Orthopaedician based on physical examination and evaluate the symptoms of the child. The doctor may ask the child to bend from waist to knees to check for muscle weakness, abdominal reflexes and numbness. Plain X-rays can confirm the diagnosis of Scoliosis.Additional tests like MRI may also be performed to confirm diagnosis.
HOW IS SCOLIOSIS TREATED?
Treatment of this problem is usually done using braces. Such braces help in aligning the spine to a straighter line. In children below 2 years, doing so helps in faster alignment fixing. There are various surgical procedures used here to like spinal fusion that provides more accurate results.
