India hobbles to second place in hip fractures with 4.4 lakh people falling prey every year. Currently, india has approximately 36 million osteoporosis patients. 

  • Osteoporotic patients suffer fractures because of weak bones, leading to temporary or permanent disability, and even death.
  • Importance of bones
  • Bones and the skeleton play many important roles in the body. 
  • Store and supply calcium as needed for all of the cells and organs of the body
  • Give our bodies support and muscle attachments which allow us to move and use our limbs
  • Enclose and protect our vital organs
  • Provide space for bone marrow, where all types of blood and bone cells are made. 
  • There are things you can do to maintain and even improve your bone strength.
  • Understand your individual risk for fracture. This is based on any risk factors you have for fracture and your bone density. Ask your doctor if you need a bone density test.
  • Understand your individual risk for bone loss. Genetics plays a role in bone health, and some people have genetically determined high rates of bone turnover after menopause or with aging. Talk to your doctor about bone metabolism testing. Bone metabolism testing can provide additional information about your risk for fracture.
  • Be active every day. Strength-building and weight-bearing activities help build strong bones. Children should exercise at least an hour each day, and adults should total 30 minutes of daily activity.
  • Maintain a healthy weight. Older adults who are overweight have a higher risk for falling. Being underweight raises the risk of bone loss.
  • Get enough calcium and vitamin d.
  • Do not smoke. Smoking can reduce bone mass and increase your risk for a broken bone.
  • Limit alcohol use. Heavy alcohol use reduces bone mass and increases your risk for broken bones.
  • Reduce your risk of falling. There are many changes your can make in your home to help prevent a fall. Remove obstacles and add safety features — such as grab bars and non-slip mats — where needed.
  • Consider bone-boosting medications. In addition to calcium and vitamin d supplements, there are many drug options that slow bone loss and increase bone strength. Talk to your doctor about these methods for protecting your bones.

It can be due to high glucose levels in blood. I would suggest you to get blood glucose levels test done.

For gaining weight your digestive power must be strong so that intestines could absorb the nutrients properly. Take plenty of fresh water, fresh vegetables, fruits, dry fruits, buffalo milk and milk products. Take good sound sleep at least for 7 hrs a day. Do body massage with olive oil or sesame oil 2-3 times a week. As your appetite is low, first you start taking chitrakadi vati. One tablet three times a day after each meal with lukewarm water for seven days and after that start following herbal formula: ashwagandhadi churna + dhatupaustic churna+ musli churna+ powder of soya, mix all thoroughly in equal quantity, and, take one tea spoon twice a day with one glass milk. Also take lavanbhaskar churna 3 gms twice a day after main meals with lukewarm water.

Follow these best methods to easily gain weight and get a healthy body - * to gain weight, first take a diet rich with proteins and fats. You should take high calories food that increase your muscle mass and induce growth in bones. Follow the diet chart in your daily life to fastly gain weight * in morning, take a glass of milk added with 2 teaspoons of bournvita or complan powder with breakfast. * after 2 hours of breakfast, take 2 bananas or a bowl of boiled soyabeans. To increase your hunger & proper digestion of food - take 10 gms powder of carom seeds (ajwain, 10 gm powder of cumin (jeera), 10 gm of rock salt. Mix them well and take 1/2 teaspoon (3-5 gm) of mixture daily after lunch * in lunch time, take 1 bowl of curd or 100 gm of cheese, a bowl of vegetable, with chapattis. You can take 2 bowl of careals (moong/chana daal) on the place of curd or cheese. * in evening, take 1 glass of milk (300 ml) with 10-12 pieces of dry fruits or 3-4 pieces of dates (khajoor). * in night, take a bowl of careals (daal, a bowl of salad with chapattis. 3. In morning, get up early and take awalk for 10-15 minutes and exercise light weight exercises for at least 30 minutes at home or gym. Exercise is very important so that muscles gain mass from the heathy diet. 4. For proper weight, proper sleep is very important. So you should sleep for 6-8 hours daily. 5. Avoid smoking & alcohol drinkg completely. I assure you that you definitely gain weight fastly by following them. Be healthy

Hi vitamin d is important for all mostly women, pregnancy, lactation, old age etc more required. For you take normally by foods like dairy products, organic protien based foods, egg, milk, fish, stem based vegetables, fibre rich all cereals, banana, curd etc.

Follow these methods to prevent swelling of fingers during winters : * Protect your fingers from cold make it warm by cover it properly . Avoid to work in cold water. If you work after that make your fingers warm by wearing gloves or by another methods of warming . * Do massage with lukewarm mustard oil daily and after that cover the fingers . * Do jogging Or running daily for 5 to 10 minutes . * Eat green leafy vegetables and a bowl of cereal and drink a glass of milk daily . Dear user. I can understand. Oats is just a staple food with good amount of fiber. This helps you in reducing your appetite. But never helps directly in weight loss. There are no short cuts for weight loss. You have to do physical exercises and go with moderate nutritious food. Take care.

You have to look at it as the whole body and try to lose weight. Although you can do exercises for particular part of the body, but the body works based on calorie intake and how much you burn your calories. Maintaining a stable metabolism is the ideal way and so you have to understand the basics. So eat only healthy food. Exercise every day , initially go slow and as you pick up the rhythm, increase the intensity and the time duration. You can also learn Yoga because it will help you in maintaining the overall rhythm and even help balance the hormonal secretions. Drink enough water and sleep on time every day ( 7-8 hrs of sleep ). Soon you will feel good and can appreciate the strength and stamina. All the body muscles will get well toned. You can also join Gym and workout under the guidance of an expert.

Dear Lybrate User, Increasing weight does not mean that you will go fatty. In fact, extra fat serves as a precursor of many diseases. In order to increase your weight as well as stay healthy you have to increase the muscle mass of your body. Normally a muscle undergoes an increase in size when it gets hypertrophied due to weight training. Weight-training leads to the pumping of blood to the muscle resulting in increased protein synthesis in the muscles. This applies to every muscles of human body. So, weight training is a must to increase weight. Whenever a muscle gets hypertrophied it demands protein to expand. Here comes the need of protein supplement. The most effective protein supplement is WHEY protein. But kindly remember only taking supplement is not enough. You need to take those supplements according to a fixed schedule. For quicker & better results take 40 grams of whey just after waking from sleep at morning. Take another 20 grams of whey just 30 minutes before workout. Again take 40 grams of whey just after you have finished your workout. Kindly remember gaining weight is a time -taking process. So do not expect any result within fortnight.

Best way to reduce fat is exercise and diet control. Take pranacharya medohar rasayn twice a day. Medohar guggul 2-2 twice a day. And pranacharya slim capsule 1-1 twice a day. Avoid junk food. Oily food. Fermented food. Alcohol consumption. Sugar. Milk products and sweets. Take oats and cereals more. And do pranayama early in the morning and walk for atleast 45 minutes a day. And do exercises. Do not sleep immediately after taking meal.

White lines are appearing on her thighs, are these due to fat loss or she is gaining more fat.
White line are stretch marks. They can occur both due to sudden weight gain or sudden weight loss. Strectch marks occur due to sudden stretching or sagging of the skin. Stretch marks also depends on the elasticity of a person’s skin and the skin elasticity depends on the vitamins like vitamin E, omega 3 & 6. Strech marks take a long time to fade, so patience is the key to deal with stretch marks. To lighten the appearance of stretch marks – 1.Scrub the area lightly once a day. You can use some natural ingredients like gramflour, turmeric mixed with some milk to scrub the area. 2.Apply Vitamin E oil or warm olive oil on the area. 3.Apply Aloe Vera gel once a day on the area 4.Cocoa butter mixed with wheat germ oil is also very good at maintaining the skin health and reduce appearance of the skin. 5.You can also apply creams like Elastoderm stretch mark cream to reduce the appearance of stretch marks. Apply this cream daily to see results in few months. 6.Consume diet that is rich in vitamin E, omega 3 and 6 and other skin friendly vitamins like vitamin E and A. 7.Keep yourself hydrated. Drink atleast 8-10 glasses of water to keep your skin soft and supple.

Hye, Thanks for the query. Gaining weight requires you to eat more calories than you burn. Although fried or sugary foods are calorie dense, eating them exclusively won’t provide enough nutrition to keep you energetic and healthy. Eating several meals and snacks throughout the day and including nutritious, calorie-dense food will help you gain weight healthfully. Weight gain depends primarily on your genetics, age, weight and activity level. To gain weight, you need to eat more calories than you burn. If you’re not used to eating large quantities of food at one time, you may find it difficult to fit all of your calories into three meals per day. Eating nutritious, calorie-dense foods every two to three hours will help you get your calories in without making you overly full and sluggish. If you tend to forget to eat or are always on the go, bring calorie-dense snacks such as eggs, mixed nuts, fruits and dairy. Nutritious, calorie-dense foods provide essential vitamins and minerals, which promote good health and energy. Adding ghee and cream to foods adds additional calories for very little extra physical bulk. Fruit juice, masala milk provides crucial nutrients. Meal-replacement shakes and protein powder sound like good options but also remember that unless your diet is not planned sadly they won't help.

How can a 20 year old premature girl gain weight fast? The girl has been taking proper diet for a long period of time she has consulted with some of the dietitian, and doctors but they said you can not gain weight as you were born premature, plzz tell me how she can gain weight fast.

Being born premature has got nothing to do with health as an adult. That event is history and human body can grow normally later on. She can take more proteins and milk/milk products. She should do regular exercise and consume lot of fruits and vegetables. Be tension free. She will be okay.
