Urinary Tract Infection - Causes And Symptoms

Urinary Tract Infection - Causes And Symptoms

The structure responsible for production, transportation, storage and excretion of urine form the urinary tract. Kidney, ureters, bladder and urethra are structures involved in urine formation and excretion process. Kidney filters nearly 3 ounces of blood, removes waste materials every minute. When these get infected with entry of any micro organism or any other pathological condition, then the person gets urinary tract infection (UTI).

Causes and symptoms
Urinary tract infections are more common in women than men because of the small size of the urethra (4cms) and also because of the squatting position of voiding. Entry of organisms like bacteria, viruses and fungi are the major cause of UTI. The person may experience burning sensation and pain when voiding, fever is indicated when the infection has reached the kidneys or prostate glands in male. Other symptoms include pain in back, ribs, nausea and vomiting.

Preventive measures

Though antibiotics are used to treat the present infection there are increased chance of getting the recurrent infection. So it is best advised to follow the preventive measures to stay away safely from getting infected.

  1. Drink plenty of water nearly 2- 3litres of water per day and urinate when you feel the need , don’t control or resist voiding when you feel the urge as this may give room for the organisms to grow well
  2. Urinate after sexual intercourse. change the birth control measures if UTI is a recurrent problem
  3. Wash front to back, wipe off thoroughly after emptying the bladder so as to prevent the entry of organisms into the urethra.
  4. Avoid wearing tight fitting clothes. Always prefer cotton inner garments and loose fitting clothes so that air entry keeps the area moist and free from bacteria.
  5. Cranberry juice works best and it is the natural treatment for bladder infections. Cranberries have a special substance that can avoid the entry of E.coli into the bladder, but it does not have much effect on recurrent UTI infections. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a nephrologist.

The normal size of a prostate is around 20 gms. The size of a prostate is not dependant on the size. That means even small prostates can be severely symptomatic. Surgery is the only method of treating prostates and exercise has no role in treatment. You must consult the doctor for full assesment.

I have 3mm stone in my kidney and I don't want surgery for this so Please can you suggest me what can i do.?
Tips for removing kidney stones:: 1. Avoid tea, coffee, alcohol, cold drinks, pickles, fish, poultry, meat, spinach, and chocolate. 2. Avoid sour, heavy, and dry food. 3. Increase intake of liquids like water, juice, soup, lime water lemon soda etc. 4. Be sure to drink enough water each day. Usually 1 to 2 liters of water per day is adequate. 5. Drink more if you are perspiring heavily, working outdoors, the weather is hot, etc. 6. Increase the use of barley, horse gram (a type of bean), ginger, and brown rice or parboiled rice. 7. Avoid suppressing urges to urinate and defecate. 9. Boil 10-12 basil leaves in 1 cup of water for 15 minutes. Mix 1 teaspoon of honey in it and take twice a day. Pls send ur USG report becoz medication for stones depends upon size number and location of stones and can be given after USG.

It could be due to stone in kidney/ureter/bladder or urinary tract infecion 1. Drink plenty of water (8-10 glass daily) 2. Do urine examination for re/me 3. Take usg kub (kidney, ureter, bladder) and consult urologist with report for advice and treatment.

I have a 4.9 mm right renal calculi which was detected 8 months ago using Ultrasound. So the Urologist told me to drink 5 litre water daily to flush out the stone itself. He also told no need of medication for such small stone. So I started to drink 5-6 litre water. But after 8 months still there is severe pain in my whole abdomen. I can not do my day to day activities because of pain. I do not think so it will flush out without any medication. And this increase amount of drinking leads to increase amount of urination. Earlier I used to drink 3 litre water and go to pee 15-16 times a day. But now I had to pee 24-25 times a day because of 5-6 litre water. I also accept that I had an issue of frequent urination started at the age of 14 because of my too much masturbation (thrice a day, and 3 days in a week). I believe that this habit is causing trouble. But everybody told me this is not. But I had learned from the internet that too much jerk off leads to many problems like low vision, back pain, thin health, sex problems which is a dark side of my life. I also had other micturition issues since 5 years like late urine, interrupted urine, stuck urine, urine with force, urine flow is not ok etc. Sometimes I had to hold it for hours because of regular bus journey. Sometimes peeing in public toilets is difficult for me. I can not pee in front of any people. I need a door closed place to urinate where no one can see me. I had done my urine test but no infection found. RBS is also normal 8 months ago. My age is 26 and unmarried. Some doctors told me to drink 2-3 litre water a day and pee less. But why should I drink less? From 2 years I had Irritable Bowel Syndrome. So I need to drink 5 litre water a day to help my bowel movement. If I drink less then my bowel movement is not ok and urine is not flowing properly, it sticked. Then I need to force to pee. From January I stayed at home like a couch potato, no physical movements, exercise at all or it pains. When I walk a short distance, it started paining in my abdomen. Some doctors can not believe that my abdomen is paining. They found nothing in CT Enterography, so they thought I am acting. Some said that I need mental counselling. But I am not mental and this is not a joke. This is true paining. HELP ME DOCTOR.

Kidney stones, also called renal calculi, are solid concretions (crystal aggregations) of dissolved minerals in urine; calculi typically form inside the kidneys or bladder. The terms nephrolithiasis and urolithiasis refer to the presence of calculi in the kidneys and urinary tract, respectively. Renal stone or calculus or lithiasis is one of the most common diseases of the urinary tract. It occurs more frequently in men than in women and in whites than in blacks. It is rare in children. It shows a familial predisposition. Urinary calculus is a stone-like body composed of urinary salts bound together by a colloid matrix of organic materials. It consists of a nucleus around which concentric layers of urinary salts are deposited. Renal calculi can vary in size from as small as grains of sand to as large as a golf ball. Most calculi originate within the kidney and proceed distally, creating various degrees of urinary obstruction as they become lodged in narrow areas, including the ureteropelvic junction, pelvic brim, and ureterovesical junction. Location and quality of pain are related to position of the stone within the urinary tract. Severity of pain is related to the degree of obstruction, presence of ureteral spasm, and presence of any associated infection. In allopathy, there is no known treatment for kidney stones or renal calculi except surgery. On the one hand, getting a surgery involves a lot of emotional and physical suffering. At the same time, it is costly also and sets you back quite a bit. The other disadvantage is that while the stones are removed using the surgical option, there is no way one can be sure that the stones will not form again. In the homeopathic system of medicine, one can easily remove the kidney stones naturally with simple homeopathic medicines. The advantage of homeopathy is that you can avoid surgery and it also cures the tendency of the body to form stones. This means that the chances of the stones being formed again are next to nil. Homeopathy offers the best alternative non-surgical treatment for kidney stones. You can easily take an online consultation for further treatment guidance and permanent cure without any side effects
