Hi Lybrate-user, Dont worry .Ayurveda can help you to cure coughing. You have to improve your immunity. Once you get relief from coughing then also reliefs from vomiting .You should avoid Urad, banana, oil fried food spices. Saline water gargle should be done before meals. Non-irritating and bland diet, hot water, lemon, green and leafy vegetables particularly having sour and bitter taste. You can also doing this at home: 6-7 basil leaves 5-6 cloves (powder) 2-3 black piper 1/4 teaspoon ginger paste all this add in 150 ml of water then boiling mild flame and reduce to 100 ml. Later filtered and allowed to warm o it's own. Then add 2 teaspoon of honey and drink .it gives you relieved. Hot water steam will also facilitate draining from the nose and also provide relief in pain over forehead. Every day, in morning put 3-4 drops of cow ghee in your both nasal then sleep 10 to 15 min. 5 Ways to Prevent Asthma Attacks!

MBBS Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery, MBA - Health Care Administration
General Physician, Delhi
5 Ways to Prevent Asthma Attacks!

Asthmatic patients often find that the frequency and intensity of asthma attacks increase with a change in weather, as the challenges two-fold for asthmatic patients. If they are indoors, they inhale triggers such as dust mites, mould etc. and if they step outdoors, the outside air acts as a trigger for an asthmatic attack. However, there are ways to make your life easier.

  1. Curb allergy triggers inside your house: While you can’t do much about the weather, you can control the environment inside your house. Limit your time around pets that could trigger an attack and try keeping them outside the bedroom. Use dust proof covers on mattresses and pillows and changes your bedding regularly. Though it may look cosier, avoid using a lot of pillows and throw cushions on your bed. Clean and replace the filters of your home’s heating or cooling system before you start it up for the first time. The filters should also be regularly checked and cleaned throughout the winter.
  2. Ventilate the house: Keep your house dry and cool at all times to prevent the growth of mould and dust mites. To do this, run an exhaust fan in the bathroom while having a shower and in the kitchen while cooking. As far as possible, do not dry clothes indoors.
  3. Avoid too cold or too hot air: As far as possible avoid going outdoors especially on windy days. Instead of going for a walk outdoors, exercise at home or in a gym. When you go outdoors, drape a scarf over the lower half of your face to cover your nose and mouth. This will ensure that you do not breathe in too cold air or too hot air.
  4. Breathe correctly: As children, we’re told to keep our mouths closed. Not only is this good social etiquette, but it also prevents you from breathing through your mouth. The nostrils have tiny hair inside them that act as filters and keep dust particles and pollen from being inhaled. This also warms up the air while being inhaled. Thus avoid breathing through your mouth and instead only breathe through your nose.
  5. Take your medications: Create an effective plan of action to be followed in case of an asthmatic attack and get regular check-ups throughout the season. If you notice your symptoms worsening as the weather gets colder, talk to your doctor about changing your medication and its dosage. Do not skip your medication or stop it unless your doctor tells you to.

Sir I am suffering from coughing for a long time now. The problem has been for six months now. And after eating food, coughing starts and I vomit. What should I do now.

MBBS
Internal Medicine Specialist, Kendujhar
Hello, Thanks for your query on Lybrate "As" per your clinical history is concerned your problem is due to your stomach so to confirm exact cause do a clinical examination by your Doctor[Gastro] and do an endoscopy. Regarding medication, you can take [pantoprazole-40mg] once a day and [Baclofen-10mg]twice a day. Do follow lifestyle modifications like this- 1)Maintain a healthy weight. Excess pounds put pressure on your abdomen, pushing up your stomach and causing acid to back up into your esophagus. If your weight is healthy, work to maintain it. If you are overweight or obese, work to slowly lose weight no more than 1 or 2 pounds (0.5 to 1 kilogram) a week. 2)Avoid tight-fitting clothing. Clothes that fit tightly around your waist put pressure on your abdomen and the lower esophageal sphincter. 3)Avoid foods and drinks that trigger Heartburn.Common triggers such as fatty or fried foods, tomato sauce, alcohol, chocolate, mint, garlic, onion, and caffeine may make Heartburn worse. 4)Eat smaller meals. Avoid overeating by eating smaller meals. Don't lie down after a meal. Wait at least three hours after eating before lying down or going to bed. 5)Elevate the head of your bed while sleeping. Place wood or cement blocks under the feet of your bed so that the head end is raised by 6 to 9 inches. 6)Don't smoke. Smoking decreases the lower esophageal sphincter's ability to function properly. Hope that helps

Sir I am taking forecox tablet for TB. Is it a better treatment ?Should I admit in hospital? What is DOT treatment? Is forecox tablet a DOTS treatment? Please help me, What should I do? Can I completely cure with this forecox tablet? Please Help. I need some suggestions.

MBBS Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery, MD - Chest & TB
Pulmonologist, Faridabad
Dear lybrate-user, DOTS treatment means giving Antitubercular treatment directly under supervision of a medical officer and thus chances of missing a dose is less resulting in a better outcome and minimising the risk of development of drug resistant TB. Forecox is name of combination of four first line Antitubercular drugs and is given by private practitioners depending on patient 's body weight. TB treatment taken from private practitioners in proper doses and regularly for complete duration without any default is equally effective. TB Notification by the treating doctor is mandatory. Cure of TB depends on sensivity of TB bacteria for the anti tubercular drugs given. If fully sensitive and no other associated disorders leading to decreased peak concentration of drugs in blood then TB is curable for sure except in drug resistant TB cases where cure rates are less.

Sinusitis - How Surgery Can Help?

DNB (ENT), Diploma in Otorhinolaryngology (DLO), MBBS, SR (ENT)

Sinusitis - How Surgery Can Help?

Sinusitis is an inflammatory condition which causes swelling of the tissue lining the sinus passages. The healthy sinisuses are filled with air, but when there is a blockage, they get filled with fluids which can give rise to germs and cause an infection. Conditions such as the common cold, allergic rhinitis (swelling of the lining of the nose) and a deviated septum (shift of the nasal cavity) can cause sinusitis. People with nasal polyps and blocked drainage ducts are more prone to getting sinusitis as compared to other people. The main treatment for sinusitis is surgery.

Sinusitis Surgery
Surgery is the most effective treatment for this condition as it makes the sinuses drain by getting rid of the blockage and draining out the mucus. Surgery also removes infected, swollen and damaged tissues in the sinus along with polyps present in the nose or the sinus. If any foreign substances are obstructing the nasal passage, they are removed as well. Surgery, sometimes, is the only way of getting rid of a nose which is badly blocked. In severe conditions, people might also require a second surgery. Surgery, when coupled with medication, is more effective in treating this condition as antibiotics might be required to prevent the sinus from getting re-infected.

There are two types of sinusitis surgeries people can avail:

  1. Endoscopic surgery: This surgery removes small bones and other foreign substances blocking the sinus passage or is used for removing polyps. A thin tool called the endoscope is inserted into the nose with the help of which, the doctor gets rid of substances which are blocking the sinus passage.
  2. Sinus surgery: This is carried out in conditions when there are developments like pus and infections in the facial bones or in case of a brain abscess (inflammation caused due to infection within the tissues of the brain). In this kind of surgery, the doctor uses the opening in the mouth or makes another one through the skin of the face to remove the blockage from the sinus and get rid of sinusitis.
