Hello Doctor, is it thyroid related to increase of pimples? And what cares should I take up to avoid from pimples as ...
Mr. lybrate-user, Usually at around your age pimples tend to come more often, due to hormonal changes related to the age. Tht has nothing to do with thyroid function. Hypothyroidism can be prevented if it is due to iodine deficiency, by taking iodine supplemented salt. Pimples tend to subside as one gets a bit older. Thanks.

Mr K K Sharma, As regards the so called new drug combination marketed containing some herbal remedies, I really do not know how effective it can be in controlling diabetes in human beings. The reason is that Tab BGR 34 is only tried in lab mice. In that study also it was found to give 67% success rate which is like a placebo. No human studies are done, so it is difficult to recommend it for diabetes treatment. So I will not be able to recommend it.

Hello. Acidity occurs when there is excess secretion of acids in the gastric glands of the stomach. When the secretion is more than usual, we feel, what is commonly known as heartburn, which is normally triggered off by consumption of spicy foods. Here are some home remedies to cure acidity. - Skip the aerated drinks as well as the caffeine. Opt for herbal tea instead. - Have a glass of lukewarm water everyday. - Include banana, watermelon and cucumber in your daily diet. Watermelon juice is great for curing acidity. - Coconut water is known to soothe the system if you suffer from acidity. - Drink a glass of cold milk - everyday. - Have your last meal at least two to three hours before going to bed. - Keeping long intervals between meals is another cause for acidity. Have small but regular meals. - Try to avoid pickles, spicy chutneys, vinegar, etc. - Boil some mint leaves in water and have a glass of this after meals. - Jaggery, lemon, banana, almonds and yogurt are all known to give you instant relief from acidity. - Excessive smoking and drinking will increase acidity, so cut down. - Try chewing gum. The saliva generated helps move food through the esophagus, easing symptoms of heartburn. - Eat Ginger as it aids in digestion. - A simple preparation of lemon water with sugar can be sipped on an hour before lunch to reduce uneasiness. - Have vegetables like drumsticks, beans, pumpkin, cabbage, carrot and spring onions. For diabetes: Type-2 Diabetes is a lifestyle related problem, so making a few lifestyle changes can lower the chances of developing type 2 diabetes. -Excess weight is the single most important cause of type 2 diabetes, so control or reduce your weight if you are overweight! -Avoid sedentary lifestyle and start get moving. Brisk walking for a half hour every day reduces the risk of developing type 2 diabetes. -Modify your diet: *Choose whole grains and whole grain products over highly processed carbohydrates. The bran and fiber in whole grains make it more difficult for digestive enzymes to break down the starches into glucose. *Avoid sugary beverages which have a high glycemic load, and drinking more of this sugary stuff is associated with increased risk of diabetes. *Choose good fats instead of bad fats. Good fats found in liquid vegetable oils, nuts, and seeds. Trans fats or bad fats are found in many margarines, packaged baked goods, fried foods, fast or junk foods. *Limit intake of red meat and processed meats. Nuts, seeds, beans, tofu, or poultry are much more healthful protein choices. -Quit smoking. -Moderate alcohol consumption decreases the risk of type 2 diabetes. -Avoid taking unnecessary stress or tension! And keep an optimistic attitude in life! Medication: Take homoeopathic SBL’s Diaboherb medicine/ 3 times a day daily. Home Remedies: Dry the leaves of mango tree and grind to a powder. Mix 1 teaspoon dry powder in a glass of water and drink it daily to reduce high blood sugar levels. Take 2 teaspoons of bitter gourd (karela) juice once a day. One can also increase its use as a cooked vegetable. Take 1 teaspoon of Indian gooseberry (amla) juice mixed with 1 teaspoon of bitter gourd juice twice a day. For Hypertension: Few lifestyle changes can help you in controlling and preventing the high blood pressure, even if you're taking blood pressure medication. Eat healthy foods. Consume more fruits, vegetables, whole grains, poultry, fish and low-fat dairy foods. Eat less saturated fat and trans fat. Decrease the salt in your diet. So, avoid eating processed foods, such as canned soups or frozen dinners which contains extra salt in it. Keeping a healthy weight, or losing weight if you're overweight or obese, can help you control your high blood pressure and lower your risk of related health problems. Increase physical activity which can help lowering your blood pressure, manage stress, reduce your risk of several health problems. Get indulged in regular exercising (if your doctor allows you). Limit alcohol. Even if you're healthy, alcohol can raise your blood pressure. If you choose to drink alcohol, do so in moderation. Don't smoke. Tobacco injures blood vessel walls and speeds up the process of hardening of the arteries. Reduce stress as much as possible. Practice healthy coping techniques, such as muscle relaxation, deep breathing or meditation. Getting regular physical activity and plenty of sleep can help, too. Monitor your blood pressure at home. Medication: Take homoeopathic medicine - Schwabe’s Essentia Aurea/ thrice daily which is a cardio-tonic which helps in maintaining blood pressure, improves muscle tone of the heart and narrowing of blood vessels.

Creatinine of 1.12 is acceptable for your age otherwise. However if it was lower earlier and recently it has increased then we need to find out the cause. There are no medicines as such to control it or bring it down. If you have blood pressure keep it in control.

Dear lybrate user, there could be many reasons for this symptoms, common ones being infection or presence of a stone in the tract. A few more details are required to find out the exact reason and some urine sample test to begin with, hence a consultation is advised. Till you consult a doctor, you should drink lots of water (atleast 3-4 litres/day), and you could take some Cranberry juice as this has some evidence in urinary tract infections.

Diet to Lower Triglycerides

The purpose of this is to present, to all who want the knowledge, a safe and dependable method through which individuals can lower their elevated blood triglyceride levels. When it comes to health care, you need to stay alert, ask questions, and ultimately rely on yourself for important health care decisions. By applying these guidelines, you will be able to take control of your health care, just as we all should do. You can achieve astonishing results - if you put your mind to it. By having the whole page printed, you can read it in a nice easy chair, away from that glaring monitor.
No miracle cure is needed to reduce triglycerides. Unlike lowering cholesterol - 80 percent of cholesterol is manufactured by the body - for most people, lowering blood triglycerides is as simple as

cutting back on sweets and
getting off the couch.
Excessive sugar intake is no longer about expanding waistlines and tooth decay only. It is a common way to boost blood triglyceride levels.

So it comes back to that old litany - a healthful lifestyle consisting of a good balance of:

dietary low-sugar intake
exercise to maintain an optimal body weight
no smoking, and
moderation of alcohol intake.
It is the same standard treatment recommended at doctor's office for individuals with high cholesterol, high blood pressure and other health concerns. However, the majority of people still remain confused about the most effective way to normalize blood lipid levels.

As a matter of fact, we can't seem to adapt ourselves to all those "dietary and lifestyle plans" for the long haul. We all seem to wait for the Holy Grail of diet and lifestyle to be found.

Definitely, when it comes to triglycerides, foods have a direct impact on their blood levels. What we eat does affect our serum lipids. We don't need new triglyceride-lowering drugs.

For the majority of people, the first line of any treatment for high triglycerides should be a change in diet and, eventually, in lifestyle. But deciding which "diet" to choose is not an easy task, especially for those who have little time for meals. Since triglycerides are circulating forms of fat in the blood, you might think that

a high-fat diet will raise your triglycerides and
a low-fat diet would lower your triglycerides.
This belief turned out not to be true. According to the recent evidence, the most important dietary predictor of triglycerides appears to be carbohydrates, namely,

sugars
starches and
refined (processed) grains.
In other words, what leads to increase in blood triglycerides are mainly diets high in carbohydrates, especially sugar (American Association for Clinical Chemistry).

In fact, the effects of high carbohydrate diet on the triglyceride synthesis by the liver - the major source of blood triglycerides exclusive of chylomicrons - have been known for a long time (J Clin Invest. 1968 April; 47 (4): 712–719).
Avoid Triglyceride Blasters I: Basic Eating Plan

The amount of food you should be eating is about the size of your fist per meal.
Within the diet itself, sugar and alcohol have the greatest influence on triglycerides. Therefore, when it comes to lowering your blood triglycerides, you should:

ELIMINATE or AVOID:

High Triglycerides: Sugars Increase Triglyceride Levels ALL sugars such as:
concentrated sweets: table sugar (sucrose), cane sugar, brown sugar, Turbinado sugar, Demerara sugar, powdered sugar, honey, syrups (especially high fructose corn syrup as a substitute sweetener for sucrose-table sugar added to fruit juices, sodas, and other beverages), preserves, molasses, jams, jellies, and candies
desserts-baked goods: pies, cakes, cookies, crackers, frosting, pastries, doughnuts, ice cream, frozen yogurt, and regular or sweetened gelatin
beverages: fruit juices, fruit drinks, fruit punches, regular sodas, carbonated pop, colas, aid drinks, smoothies, sports drinks, sweetened coffee drinks, mocha, and chocolate drinks
Triglyceride Reducing Diet: Avoid high-fructose fruit - dates, raisins, figs, prunes, grapes, pears, cherries, apples, persimmons, blueberries, bananas, kiwi fruit, watermelon, plums, honeydew melon, grapefruit, orange and pineapple high-fructose, sweet fruits (both fresh or dried): especially dates, raisins, figs, prunes, grapes (red and green), pears, cherries, apples, persimmons, blueberries, bananas, kiwi fruits, watermelons, plums, honeydew melons, grapefruits, oranges and pineapples
other foods: sweetened cereals, flavored yogurts, and sports or energy bars
Triglycerides Lowering Diet: Avoid or Limit Alcohol Alcohol such as
Triglycerides Lowering Diet: Avoid or Limit Beer beer
Triglycerides Lowering Diet: Avoid or Limit Wine wine
hard liquor
liqueurs (usually sweetened alcoholic liquors) and cordials.
PLEASE NOTE: A reduction of alcohol intake is crucial in keeping triglycerides in check - just one drink can increase triglycerides in susceptible people. If you have elevated triglycerides and consume alcohol - a reduced intake or not drinking alcohol at all is strongly advised.

LIMIT:

Triglyceride reducing diet: Limit low-fructose fruit: apricot, nectarines, peaches, cantaloupe, raspberries, blackberries, strawberries low-fructose fruits, such as apricots, nectarines, peaches, cantaloupes, raspberries, blackberries, strawberries
Limit Commercially Raised Beef - The Dangers Posed to Our Health commercially raised red meat, especially fried, charbroiled and barbecued, and changing it to broiled or roasted poultry (turkey, chicken), preferably free-range.
ADD:

dark green leafy and cruciferous vegetables.
By all means, this is NOT another deprivation diet! Although the food "restrictions" advised to help you lower triglycerides may seem hard, it is heartening to realize you can achieve astonishing results without the risky drugs most conventional doctors recommend - if you put your mind to it.

However, after your triglyceride level goes back to normal, you should follow a modified sugar and alcohol diet for the rest of your life.

If thyroid hormone levels are normal please continue present treatment. But periodically check thyroid hormone levels (once in 3 months). If the condition recurs at that time treatment can be decided. Presently continue with the drugs that you are on.

Hello
my question is- is it safe to consume protein from protein supplements if someone is having diabetes and if yes...
consuming protein supplements is fine for a diabetic person. But most of the protein supplements contain a good amount of sugar in the preparation. That is not necessary. If you pick up a preparation free of carbohydrate then it is ideal.

Why Do Diabetic People Need to Eat Fat?

PG Diploma Nutrition and Dietetics, B.Sc - Home Science

Why Do Diabetic People Need to Eat Fat?

Diabetes is a condition that affects the pancreas to the extent that they do not release the required quantity of insulin, which can lead to a high blood sugar level as the body starts to absorb excess glucose from the food that it ingests. This can be of various types and have different implications for different patients. While many experts insist that keeping a low cholesterol level and low weight is a primary requirement for treatment of diabetes patients, there are a number of myths in this regard. Not eating fat is one such myth that we are out to prove wrong today.

So read on to find out why diabetic people need to eat fat:

  1. Saturated Fats and Trans Fats: There are studies that demonstrate how saturated fats can actually prove to be beneficial for diabetes patients. These can be found in various sources like fish and nuts. This releases heptadecanoic acids, which can normalise the blood sugar levels as well as the insulin and triglyceride levels in the body.
  2. Dairy Fat: The use of milk and yogurt as well as butter can actually be help in bringing the blood sugar levels down. It also shows up favourably on the lipoprotein markers. Butter in particular is known to have clarifying properties that can bring down the risk of diabetes as well. One must take care to use dairy products that are fat free.
  3. Animal Fat: Having meat which releases fat and having dairy products like cheese and milk which releases healthy saturated fats are two different things. One can replace carbs and meat with these kinds of products so that there is better absorption and creation of quality animal fats which can actually help the insulin levels.
  4. Monounsaturated and Polyunsaturated Fats: Food items like fish and nuts that carry high levels of Omega-3 fatty acids as well as monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats can help patients suffering from diabetes by clearing the bloodstream of cholesterol and high lipid levels. This also prevents the risk of heart disease and arterial blockages. These kinds of fats are also found in flax seeds, soya products and walnuts.

Going low on carbohydrates and avoiding sugar is usually recommended for patients suffering from diabetes. Yet, it is important to have your fill of essential fats as mentioned above with the help of dairy products, clarified better, omega three fatty acids, dry fruits, soya products and some amount of vegetable oils, as these actually have a number of benefits for these patients. These kinds of fats are not known to cause heart disease or high cholesterol.

Should I continue with 50 mcg? And frm few days my bp is 140/90. Is it due to thyroid. I'm 23 years old. Pls help me I'm really really worried. Thank you.

Endocrinologist,
Hello, Dosage of thyroxine should not be frequently changed on your own. Since you have not mentioned TSH level, it is difficult to comment. When on treatment TSH should be between 3 to 4 mU/L, then only all the symptoms are in check. BP 140/90 mm Hg is high for your age. If it remains at the same level then you need to take treatment for that. Plus reduce salt intake. Thanks.

I am 27 years old and having diabetes range 100-200 can the diabetes be reversed. I jog and walk daily.
Your question is not clear. Please clearly explain what is 'Range 100-200' If we assume that your Fasting Sugar is 100 and PP is 200, then you are in Pre-Diabetic Stage. # You are still in a stage where it can be brought down. # You need to avoid Sugars/Potatoes/White Rice/Biscuits/Pastries etc. # You should also avoid fried foods/pizzas/burgers/fries etc. # You need to get your weight down by about 8 Kgs. # This will control your Sugar levels and prevent you from slipping into full blown diabetes.
