High bp is multifactorial. Majority cases cause is unknown or may be familial. However if one has diabetes, obesity, kidney disease, thyroid disease etc chance of having high bp will be high. Most of the cases its due to genetic susceptibility plus poor habits like diet, lack of exercise, smoking etc combined together to cause high bp.

High Cholesterol In Eggs

High cholesterol eggs may not cause heart disease at all

We all know that cholesterol is bad and can cause heart disease, and in recent years, eggs have looked like prime culprits on this front, with many of the most health-conscious among us opting to just eat the white and not the yolk, or else removing them from our diets altogether. Indeed, in the popular imagination, the image of a greasy fried egg is likely to be associated with other cholesterol-packing, heart-stopping dietary bad-guys, such as burgers and deep-fried snacks. But now it seems that the poor old egg may have gotten a bad rap all along, as findings published in the American journal of clinical nutrition by a team of Finnish researchers appears to suggest that the consumption of eggs may not always lead to heart disease, reports medical daily.
While the authors of the study do not deny that cholesterol plays a part in causing heart disease, the key - as is so often the case - would appear to be moderation.
Additionally, the kind of food providing you with cholesterol can also influence the outcome.
Jyrki viranen, an adjunct professor of epidemiology at the university of eastern Finland, said that the risk of heart disease does not appear to increase with a moderate consumption of cholesterol: moderate intake of cholesterol doesn't seem to increase the risk of heart disease, even among those people at higher risk. Supporting the finish scientists finding, Dr. Robert Eckel, a program chair and professor of medicine at the university of colorado school of medicine, says that he doesn't even mention eggs when outlining the risk factors for heart disease to his patients, as he is more concerned about getting them into the habit of eating in an overall healthy manner than in concentrating on a few particular dietary details: our focus should be on healthy dietary patterns, not specific foods or nutrients. So while for many people eggs have for some time been crossed off the list of safe foods, it seems there are perhaps other more important issues we should be concerning ourselves with: 'i'm a lot more concerned about people eating more fruits and vegetables,' says Eckel in a report by time.
Part of the confusion over eggs seems to lie in the assumption that dietary cholesterol will translate into high blood cholesterol, an assumption that is not supported by the facts according to Dr. Luc djoussé, an associate professor and heart disease researcher at Harvard medical school: dietary cholesterol does not translate into high levels of blood cholesterol.
Dr djousse has researched the connection between heart disease and eggs and says that the current data do not justify worrying over egg consumption. The conclusion seems to be, then, that a moderate intake of foods containing cholesterol is not harmful in itself, however, doctors still strongly advise that we eat a Mediterranean diet, high in fish, vegetables, olive oil, and nuts. The general rule, according to viranen, is that an average of one egg a day is perfectly safe. In practice, this means that it's absolutely fine to eat three eggs for breakfast today as so long as we then opt for, say, fresh fruit and cereal tomorrow - what is important is that, over the week, our intake balances out to one a day.

Hi you should first start by controlling your diet. Increase fibres in your first and reduce on oil, ghee and butter. You also should do walks for about half an hour everyday. Regarding medicine, you can take homeopathy to reduce cholesterol levels. Take cholesterinum 3x, of schwabe india, 1 tablet 3 times a day. Follow this for 3 months, and then redo the test.

Hi, I am a 26-year-old male, height 5 feet 10 inches, weight 82 kg. For the past two months I have been experiencing shortness of breath. I used to smoke, but quit about 6 months ago. One month ago I consulted a cardiologist regarding this and had an ECG, Echo, and blood work. Medical history: Intestinal obstruction surgery in 2008 ECG result: 1. Suspected left ventricular hypertrophy. 2. ST- segment elevation (anterior) As the ECG was abnormal the doctor did an echo and the findings were normal. Echo Result: LVID> 26/40 IVS> 15/13 PW> 15/10 EF>66% LA 33 AO 28 Mitral Valve DE 20 EF>0.13mm/sec Doppler Flow AO systolic> 1.30M/sec Mitral E/A 0.78/0.88 M/sec Blood Work: Normal thyroid function and lipid profile. The cardiologist told me everything is normal, but still I am experiencing shortness of breath even at rest so I would like to clear these doubts: 1. Is the thickness of my left ventricle normal? 2. The ECG showed ST-segment elevation. Based on echo results does it mean that I still have an elevated ST-segment. If yes, then should I be concerned about it? 3. These tests were done a month ago, apart from shortness of breath I do not have any symptoms of CHF so I would like to know can CHF occur suddenly? It would be greatly appreciated if you will clear these doubts of mine. Thank you so much.

You have a typical indian lipid profile with more triglyceride than cholesterol. Please mention your ldl and hdl level as well. You are hypertensive but non diabetic. So, I have to calculate risk of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease before recommrnding any medication. Meanwhile, you have to follow restriction of fats and oils. Fish oil is beneficial for you. Exercise regularly.

Hello dear High triglycerides and cholesterol can cause atherosclerotic heart disease or narrowed coronary arteries in the heart can cause the symptoms of angina, when theheart muscle is not provided with enough oxygen to function. Decreased blood supply to the brain may be due to narrowed small arteries in the brain or because the larger carotidarteries in the neck may become blocked. This can result in a transient ischmic attack or stroke. Peripheral artery disease describes gradual narrowing of the arteries that supply the legs. During exercise , if the legs do not get enough blood supply, they can develop pain , called claudication . Other arteries in the body may also be affected by plaque buildup causing them to narrow, including the mesenteric arteries to the intestine and the renal arteries to the kidney. Change life style .do meditation, yoga, Go walk daily, do any one physically activity daily i.e.play any game., Avoid fast foods, oily foods, junk foods, alcohol, smoking, fatty foods, non-veg.,avoid stress, take plenty of water in day time. And 1 glass of water before bed at night. use flax oil, omega-3 fatty meal or cap., take .green veg., whole grain. GARLIC,. Cod liver oil. Take anti cholesterol medicines . Cap. Ecosprin gold-10 at night daily.

Hypertension and Diabetes - How They are Related?

MBBS, DNB (General Medicine)
General Physician
Ask Free Question
Hypertension or High Blood Pressure can trigger as well as worsen complications related to diabetes. Most people suffering from diabetes tend to develop hypertension later in their lives. Diabetes tends to increase one s blood pressure, making him/her even more vulnerable to other heart diseases and cardio-vascular disorders. Diabetes often leads to a condition known as atherosclerosis, which is the hardening of the arteries. A combination of diabetes and hypertension drastically increases the risk of suffering from a heart disease. The risks of kidney diseases and retinopathy (damage to the tiny blood vessels present in the retina) also go up, resulting in blindness. With age, chronic hypertension can also result in numerous cognitive disorders such as dementia or Alzheimer s disease (degenerative mental disorder).

How to prevent Diabetes and Hypertension?
1. Walking for about 40 minutes each day or engaging in any type of aerobic exercise can better one s heart health. Chalk out an exercise plan upon consulting the doctor
2. Limit drinking and abstain from smoking
3. Go for regular kidney check-ups
4. Eat food rich in fiber such as vegetables, fruits, breads or whole grain cereals
5. Examine blood pressure as well as blood sugar levels regularly at home
6. Practice relaxation techniques such as meditation or yoga to cut down on stress level; as stress is one of the major contributors to diabetes and the subsequent hypertension
7. Shed off your extra pounds as blood pressure escalates with weight

Whole milk from cows contains plenty of vitamins and calcium but also 8 grams of saturated fat per 250 ML and 156 calories. Saturated fat intake has been shown to increase cholesterol levels----Since most of the fat in dairy products is saturated fat, whole milk is not good for people watching their cholesterol.-------A serving of whole milk also has 35 milligrams (mg) of cholesterol. Whole milk is great for kids up to 2 years old, but for adults, 300 mg of cholesterol is the daily limit — so if you get most of your daily calcium from milk, whole milk is not a wise choice.-------- f you want to drink or cook with cow's milk and are worried about cholesterol, skim milk — non-fat milk and fat-free milk — is the way to go. Skim is healthier, with no saturated fat, only 5 grams of cholesterol, and just 92 calories per 250 ml serving. You get all the calcium and, if fortified, vitamin D with no downside.

Your chronic problems are under control and doctor has suggested some eye drops for cataract which is developing and you do not want to get operated as you have no difficulty in seeing. Why do you worry about some cataract which is just developing but not giving you any visual problems? do get your eyes examined frequently for assessment of dm & bp.
