Tendinitis (also called tendonitis) is an inflammation or irritation of a tendon, a thick cord that attaches bone to muscle. The main types of tendon injury are:
• tendonitis – inflammation of a tendon
• tendinopathy – the gradual deterioration of a tendon
• tenosynovitis – inflammation of the protective sheath that surrounds a tendon
• tendon rupture – a sudden tear in a tendon
HOW IS TENDONITIS DIAGNOSED?
Diagnosis would be done by an orthopaedic who would examine the area and do an X-ray or scan to check the damage.
HOW IS TENDONITIS TREATED?
Tendonitis can be treated through a series of exercises and physiotherapy, which helps to minimise the damage. Corticosteroid injections for reducing pain are also given. Other home remedies that you can try here include using ice compress. Surgery is needed in some cases and the patient would be advised bed rest and reduce activity levels.
