SIDS or Sudden Infant Death Syndrome is a fatal condition that causes sudden and often, unexplained death of an infant under a year old. The condition can be frightening as it can lead to death without warning in seemingly healthy babies. Most deaths due to SIDS occur when the child is between 2 to 4 months old and is more prevalent in colder weather.
HOW IS SIDS DIAGNOSED?
Since it causes sudden death, the pediatrician can study the parent’s medical history to identify the cause of the death. Autopsy is also conducted followed by the study of the place of baby's death.
HOW IS SIDS TREATED?
A Pediatric can help prevent Sids by changing the sleeping position, breastfeeding, using pacifiers and other such techniques.
