Sudden Infant Death Syndrome or SIDS is a medical condition wherein a baby though looks healthy can suddenly die during sleep. This is a very rare syndrome and the causes are unknown. Mostly premature and low birth weight babies have been prone to this. Also it has been noticed that smoking mothers or mothers delivering below the age of 20 or multiple pregnancy conditions can even cause SIDS. There are no signs and symptoms.
HOW IS SIDS DIAGNOSED?
The approach of diagnosis by paediatricians and experts differs here. Some blame it on emotional factors while others define physical causes for the same.
HOW IS SIDS TREATED?
There is no treatment of Sids, only preventive measures may be taken. But there is no guarantee that these measures prevent Sids. Adopting the correct sleeping position, adequate prenatal care of mother, treating respiratory diseases and brain abnormalities may help prevent Sids
