Palpitations or heart palpitations are basically a sensation that your heart has skipped a beat or has taken an extra beat. Many people describe this condition as a feeling that the heart is racing or pounding. The sensation may sometimes be felt in the throat, neck or chest and is quite prominent. There could be many causes of palpitations including excessive exercise to blood loss.
HOW IS PALPITATIONS DIAGNOSED?
A diagnosis of the Palpitations is done by a cardiologist who would check the individual through an Electrocardiogram or ECG. Other modes of diagnosis here includes X-ray, ultrasound or scan and also Holter monitoring.
HOW IS PALPITATIONS TREATED?
The treatment of the condition will be carried out as per the cause. Most of the conditions like heart murmurs and irregular heartbeats are considered as emergencies and may be treated with due hospitalisation. Also, a pacemaker may have to surgically installed to monitor and regulate the heartbeats.
