The birth defect in which the intestine or other abdominal organs of the baby are outside the body in a sac and can be seen is known as omphalocele. In addition to the omphalocele babies with this defect could have heart and kidney defects.
HOW IS OMPHALOCELE DIAGNOSED?
The visible abdominal organs are a sign of this disorder. The sizes of the omphalocele can vary. Prenatal ultrasounds are vital in diagnosing this disorder before birth.
HOW IS OMPHALOCELE TREATED?
The only treatment for this defect is surgery which is aimed at pushing the organs back into the abdomen.
