Nephrolithiasis (kidney stones) is the presence of small mineral deposits in the kidneys. There can be several causes for this condition and these kidney stones can be found in any part of the urinary tract from kidneys to urinary bladder. There can be severe pain in the sides, back and below the ribs area. Fever and chills can be present in case of an infection.
HOW IS NEPHROLITHIASIS DIAGNOSED?
Diagnosis is done by a general physician who would do a few blood tests and also ultrasound to see the cause of the blockage and stones.
HOW IS NEPHROLITHIASIS TREATED?
Prevention and treatment of Nephrolithiasis depends on the size of stones. Diuretics are prescribed for dissolving small stones. Dietary changes like increased fluid intake, reduced calcium and sodium intake are recommended.
