Muscle spasms are defined as the involuntary contraction of some muscle groups, which happens because of various internal problems. In muscle spasms, one would experience a shooting and acute pain either in the back, legs, arms or other parts of the body. This could be accompanied with some swelling and inflammation followed with redness.

Muscle spasm treatments range from physiotherapy and exercising to using pain relieving ointments that relax the muscles. Additionally, the doctor would advise resting the area till it heals. Using alternative hot and cold compress is known to provide respite and sooth the other signs of spasms too. A compressing bandage may also be used for helping muscles relax.
