Mania is a symptom of bipolar disorder. Patients going through a manic episode would have high energy, get distracted and need less sleep. Reckless behaviour such as drug or alcohol abuse sometimes also forms a part of the manic episode.

HOW IS MANIA TREATED?
In addition to counselling or therapy patients could be prescribed medications such as antipsychotics or sedatives which could help control hyperactivity and sleeplessness. Some patients could be prescribed mood stabilizers such as lithium.
