Hoarseness is a condition due to which it is difficult to make sounds while speaking. Vocal sounds may be weak, scratchy or husky and the pitch of the voice may change. Problem with the vocal cords causes hoarseness. Inflamed or infected vocal cords cause hoarseness. Symptoms are:
• Benign vocal cord nodules or cysts
• Pain while swallowing
• Barking or scratchy or raspy voice
HOW IS HOARSENESS DIAGNOSED?
Treatment for hoarseness usually includes having cough syrups along with antibiotics if there is fever or risk of infection. Alongside, your general physician would also ask you to do a hot water gargle with some salt and antibiotic solution to prevent the same from getting worse.
