The billions of nerve cells or neurons communicate with each other using electrical impulses. When a particularly large number of neurons try to communicate at one time, it may cause a crash of sorts which is known as epilepsy and results in a seizure. A child can suffer from this condition due to a head injury, lack of oxygen in the brain, and other illnesses.
HOW IS EPILEPSY IN CHILDREN DIAGNOSED?
The diagnosis of the issue will be done by a paediatrician or a neurologist, who will conduct an EEG to find out the cause and severity of the condition. Also, once there have been more than one such seizures without any cause, then the diagnosis is done in favour of epilepsy.
HOW IS EPILEPSY IN CHILDREN TREATED?
The treatment of the condition is usually done with anti epileptic medication. The doctor must prescribe medicines that are not harmful for the growth and development of the child.
