Diastema is an orthodontic condition that causes space between the teeth. It may be caused due to low muscle attachment which is a pretty common condition for many people. This condition is also characterised by plenty of overbite without ample spacing.
HOW IS DIASTEMA DIAGNOSED?
The diastema is pretty much evident but a dentistry check-up will confirm it if at all it is too mild. In some cases, the condition is quite major with significant gap between two or more teeth. X-ray may be conducted before treatment begins to analyse the course of treatment and the method to be applied.
HOW IS DIASTEMA TREATED?
There are different treatment options available to treat different types of diastema. If it is a mild gap, a dental retainer is all that is needed. Surgery may be needed to correct a major gap.
DID YOU KNOW?
In some cases, a permanent retainer or a wire is glued at the back of the teeth to keep the teeth together.
